    Jagatsinghpur: In a tragic incident, a girl went missing after drowning in the Mahanadi River in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district. The incident has come to the fore from the Jagannathpur area under the Kujang block of the district.

    The girl has been identified as Lusi Mallik, daughter of Arvind Mallik of Jagannathpur village.

    Mother Daughter Killed As Truck Hits 2-Wheeler

    Jagatsinghpur: In a tragic incident, a mother and daughter duo were killed after a truck loaded with bricks hit two-wheeler they were travelling in. The accident took place in Sadar police limit of Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district.

    According to sources, the duo were on their way to Jagatsinghpur Hospital when the truck collided head-on with their two-wheeler. Due to the accident, both of them died on the spot.

    Following the accident, there was unrest in the area as locals blocked the road by burning tyres demanding compensation for the deceased.

    On being informed, police reached the spot and tried to control the situation. They also recovered the bodies and sent it for autopsy. The identities of the deceased is yet to be ascertained by the police.

    The cops have started to probe into the incident. Further detailed report in this matter is awaited.

    GST officer in Paradip under vigilance probe

    Jagatsinghpur: Tightening the noose around the neck of corrupt officials Odisha Vigilance on Friday arrested a CT and GST officer of the Enforcement Unit, Paradeep in Jagatsinghpur district of Odisha while accepting Rs 80,000 bribe to furnish closure report of CT and GST case.

    The accused officer has been identified as Chittaranjan Mohanty.

    As per reports, Chittaranjan Mohanty, CT & GST Officer, Enforcement Unit, Paradeep, Dist-Jagatsinghpur has been apprehended by Odisha Vigilance for demanding and accepting undue advantage of Rs.80,000 from a complainant in order to furnish closure report in a CT & GST case.

    Based on the above complaint, a trap was laid today wherein the accused was caught by the team of Odisha Vigilance in his office chamber while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs.80,000 from the complainant.

    The entire bribe money was recovered from the possession of Mohanty and seized in presence of witnesses.

    Following the trap, simultaneous searches have been launched on the residential double storeyed building of Mohanty at CDA, Cuttack, house at native village Kapileswar, Kendrapara and his office chamber at Paradeep.

    Further Rs.1 Lakh has been recovered from his office Almirah, the source of which is being verified.

    Mohanty has been arrested and will be forwarded to the Court. In this connection, Cuttack Vigilance PS Case No.4 dated 30.03.2023 U/s 7 PC Act, 1988 as amended by PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered and is under investigation.

    Three students missing while taking a bath in the river

    Jagatsinghpur: In a tragic incident, three students goes missing while another had a brush with death while taking bath in Devi river near Machagaon under Balikuda block of Jagatsinghpur district today.

    The incident took place when four students belonging to a college in Satyanagar of Bhubaneswar went to the Devi river in Jagatsinghpur to take bath.

    The deceased students were residents of Satyanagar, Bhubaneswar and Ambasala village in Jagatsinghpur.

    It is suspected that due to the strong current of the river, the students were swept away.

    On being informed about the incident, the fire brigade personnel reached the spot and started the rescue operation. Following which, out of the four, one was rescued.
