    RTI Activist Arrested For Soil Theft From Govt Land In Odisha’s Jajpur

    Jajpur: Right-to-Information (RTI) activist of Odisha’s Jajpur district Sarbeshwar Behera has been arrested in an illegal soil mining case.

    According to sources, he is accused of illegal extraction and transportation of soil from a government land at Saroi Mauza under Dharmashala tehsil. The Tehsildar had seized a JCB and five tractors during a raid, which was carried out following a tip-off. On basis of the complaint lodged by the Tehsildar, police had then detained five drivers for questioning.

    Later, the five along with Behera were arrested and forwarded to court.

    “The legal action was taken following an investigation on the report submitted by the Tehsildar, on basis of which a case was lodged at Dharmashala police station one and a half months back,” ACP, Jajpur, Vinit Agrawal told the media.

    Collector Chakravarti Singh Rathore said that continuous enforcement is on and a fine of Rs 200-Rs 300 crore slapped in last 2 years. “When Tehsildar visited the spot yesterday, soil mining was on. Action is being taken against those involved,” he added.

    Jajpur: One person died and two others were critically injured as the bike they were traveling in collided with a Bolero in Odisha’s Jajpur district. The accident occurred at Jodikua Chakk under the Jajpur police limits of the district.

    The deceased was identified as S K Moti, a resident of Medinpur. The injured were identified as Shaikh Nahaj Hussain and Ekra Moon. All three victims of the accident are said to be from West Bengal.

    According to sources, the bike they were traveling in had a head-on collision with a Bolero. Due to the accident, S K Moti died on the spot and Nahaj Hussain and Ekra Moon were critically injured. The injured were immediately rushed to Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital. Ekra Moon was later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital as his condition deteriorated.

    On being informed, police reached the spot, recovered the body, and sent it for autopsy. The cops also initiated a probe into the matter.

    Bhubaneswar: The Meteorological Centre here today issued an orange warning for rain accompanied by thunderstorms with lightning over 11 districts of Odisha.

    Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph with hailstorms very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Cuttack, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Angul, Boudh till tomorrow morning, informed the weatherman.

    Meanwhile, the people of the above-mentioned districts have been advised to keep watch on the weather and take safe shelter during the thunderstorm activity to protect from lightning and follow traffic advisories in urban areas. Harvesting of Rabi crops may be regulated judicially.

    Likewise, yellow warning for thunderstorms with lighting and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Angul, Boudh, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Kandhamal, Koraput, Rayagada, Nuapada till 8.30 AM tomorrow.

    Similarly, thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the rest districts of Odisha.
