    J-K: 2 Indian Army personnel killed, 4 injured in Rajouri encounter

    RAJOURI: Two Army personnel were killed and four others were injured in a blast triggered by terrorists during an anti-terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri on Friday, officials said.

    “The terrorists triggered an explosive device in retaliation. The Army team has suffered two fatal casualties with injuries to four more soldiers including an officer,” a statement by Northern Command said. Additional teams from the vicinity have been directed to the site of the encounter. The injured personnel have been evacuated to Command Hospital, Udhampur, it further stated.

    Indian Army is conducting relentless intelligence-based operations to flush out a group of terrorists involved in an ambush on an army truck in the Tota Gali area of Bhata Dhurian in the Jammu region, officials stated.

    “On specific information about the presence of terrorists in the Kandi Forest in the Rajouri Sector, a joint operation was launched on May 3, 2023. At about 7:30 am on May 5, 2023, a search team established contact with a group of terrorists well entrenched in a cave. The area is thickly vegetated with rocky and steep cliffs,” the official release stated. As per initial reports, a group of terrorists are trapped in the area. There is a likelihood of casualties in a terrorist group.

    The operation is underway. Further details are being ascertained, officials said. Earlier in the day, an encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in the Kandi area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri.

    Indian Army has issued a statement on the helicopter crash that took place on Thursday morning in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar in a forested area near the Marusudar River in the Marwah area.

    According to Army, at around 11:15 am on May 4, an Army Aviation ALH Dhruv helicopter on an operational mission made a precautionary landing on the banks of the Marua river in Kishtwar. “At about 11:15 hours on 04 May 2023, an Army Aviation ALH Dhruv helicopter on an operational mission made a precautionary landing on the banks of Marua river in the Kishtwar region of Jammu and Kashmir. As per inputs, the pilots had reported a technical fault to the Air Traffic Controller (ATC) and proceeded for a precautionary landing,” the Army said in a statement.

    It further stated that due to the uneven terrain, undergrowth and inadequate landing area, the army’s chopper apparently made a hard landing. “Due to the undulating ground, undergrowth and unprepared landing area, the helicopter apparently made a hard landing,” the statement said, adding that immediate rescue operations were launched. Army’s rescue teams have also reached the site.

    Speaking on the people onboard, Army said, “Two pilots and a technician were on board. All three injured personnel have been evacuated to Command Hospital, Udhampur.” A Court of inquiry has been ordered in this matter, as per the officials.

    NEW DELHI: The Army ALH Dhruv Helicopter crashed near Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar area on Thursday morning. The crash took place in the hill district’s Marwah area, the officials said.
    The Army officials said that the pilot and co-pilot were rescued in an injured condition but are safe and are under going treatment.
    Officials had earlier said there were three people on board. More details are awaited.
    Earlier this March, two pilots were killed after an Indian Army Aviation Cheetah helicopter crashed near the Mandala hills area in Arunachal Pradesh.
    A search operation was carried out by the Indian Army, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and police after the crash.
    Accordong to officials Army’s Cheetah helicopter was on an operational sortie when it lost contact with the Air Traffic Controller. It was reported to have crashed near Mandala, West of Bomdila.

    Ramban Police on Monday, May 1 busted a terrorist hideout in the hills of the Khari district. They found 24 rounds of AK-47 and 9 mm ammunition, two rifle grenades, one UBGL launcher, two wire IEDs, one wireless communication device, one detonator, a jacket, and shoes that were kept in the hideout.

    Police in its statement said, “On 01-05-2023, an information was received through reliable sources regarding presence of cache of arms, ammunition and related material in the far flung hilly and forested area of tehsil Khari of District Ramban”.

    Police’s statement further added that on the input, a search operation by J&K Police and SOG Banihal was launched in the Burzalla forest area and suspected hideout locations were searched during which police busted a militant hideout, and ammunition among other things were recovered from the spot.

    Police has registered a case video FIR no. 106/2023 u/s 4 Explosive Substance act has been registered at P/S Banihal and investigation taken up.

    The statement further added, “The entire search operation was led by police party of Police post Khari headed by PSI Rajnish Pangotra I/C PP Khari, SOG Banihal headed by Insp Hargopal Singh, under the command of Insp. Mohd Afzal Wani SHO P/S Banihal, under the supervision of Nissar Khoja SDPO Banihal with the overall supervision of Mohita Sharma, IPS SP Ramban.”

    As part of its initiative to raise awareness among all ranks and families about benefits of millets in diet, the Northern Command of the Indian Army is mulling to organize a mega ‘Station Millet Festival’ in Jammu and Kashmir, a defence spokesman said on Sunday.

    The festival will be organized in near future as a culmination of an awareness campaign started by the command with the holding of a workshop at the northern command headquarters in Udhampur on Sunday, the spokesman said. He said the awareness workshop on ‘Mission Millets’ was conducted in collaboration with the Jammu University and was presided by Chief of Staff, Headquarters Northern Command, Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta.

    The Northern Command is also planning various other events as part of ‘Mission Millet’ campaign to include essay, quiz and slogan competition at school level and cooking competition at unit level. The spokesman said millets are not just a nutritious grain, but also a reminder of the “rich agricultural heritage of India” .

    “To harness the untapped potential of millets for food security, nutrition and sustainable agriculture, the year 2023 has been declared as ‘International Year of Millets’. The Northern Command has undertaken a noble initiative to raise awareness among all ranks and families highlighting benefits of including millets in diet,” he said.

    Poonch: Army’s Northern Commander Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi on Sunday said that necessary action is underway against the terrorists responsible for the deadly attack on an army truck in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district that left five soldiers dead.

    A massive search operation to track down the terrorists is underway in Bhata Dhurian following the ambush on the army vehicle carrying fruits and other items to a border village for an Iftar that was to be hosted by the Rashtriya Rifles unit on Thursday evening, officials said.

    In a tweet on its official handle, the Army’s Northern Command shared Lt Gen Dwivedi’s visit to the Command Hospital in Udhampur and his interaction with the survivor of the terror attack.

    Srinagar (IANS) | Eid prayers were peaceful across Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, except at the historic Jamia Masjid in Nowhatta area of Srinagar’s old city. The authorities did not allow Eid prayers to be offered at the historic Jamia Masjid in Nowhatta area of Srinagar due to security reasons.

    Eid prayers were offered peacefully in Jammu and Kashmir as thousands of devout Muslims gathered at various Eidgahs and mosques to offer morning prayers.

    The biggest gathering in Srinagar took place at the Hazratbal Mosque where hundreds of devotees offered Eid prayers.

    A large number of people also offered Eid prayers at the Pir Dastgir Dargah/Masjid in Khanyar area of Srinagar.

    Reports from other district headquarters of the Valley and Jammu division also indicate that Eid prayers were conducted peacefully there too.

    After Eid prayers, Muslims congratulate each other on the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan, during which fasting is observed from dawn to dusk.

    The authorities had made adequate security arrangements around Eidgahs and mosques to ensure that people could offer prayers without any disturbance.

    Jammu (IANS) | A man was arrested on Wednesday for killing his son, injuring his wife and daughter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district. The accused has been identified as Kulbir Singh, a resident of Rakhi Sum village in Samba district. Police said he allegedly killed his son Jatan Singh and injured his wife Poonam and daughter with a sharp weapon.

    A police officer said that the accused has been arrested and his interrogation has been started after a case was registered against him.

    Jammu (IANS) | Army personnel foiled an infiltration bid on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district in the early hours of Sunday. Along with this, the soldiers killed one intruder and caught two others. Defense officials gave this information. On 8th April, at around 10.15 pm, troops deployed along the LoC in Poonch sector noticed a suspicious movement of a group (three persons) close to the LoC.

    Defense Ministry spokesman Lt Col Devendra Anand said the group crossed the Line of Control around midnight and started infiltration from their side.

    Vigilant soldiers kept a constant watch on the infiltrating group. Today (Sunday) at around 2 am, as the group approached the fence, alert army personnel posted on the fence challenged the intruders.

    During this, the army personnel opened fire and killed one intruder, while the other two managed to escape into the jungle.

    The spokesman said the area was immediately cordoned off to prevent their escape across the Line of Control. A search operation was launched after the firing, during which the body of an infiltrator was recovered from the encounter site. As the search progressed in the forest, one of the intruders was captured alive with injuries.

    In the subsequent search, the third intruder was also caught alive, he said. Fourteen packets weighing about 17 kg along with three bags containing narcotics, Pakistani currency, some documents and eatables have been recovered in the search operation so far.

    According to Lt Col Anand, the two infiltrators who were caught alive during preliminary interrogation claimed that they (all three) are residents of Pakistan Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POJK) and are residents of Chanjal village Maidan Mohalla.

    With their prompt action, alert Indian Army personnel have foiled a major infiltration bid by a narco-terrorist group, which had the potential to disturb peace in Poonch and Rajouri districts through their nefarious designs.

    He said that the Indian Army is on constant vigil along the Line of Control and is fully prepared to foil any such attempt in future also.

A fully loaded truck hit his car near Ramban along Jammu- Srinagar highway, said cops “While going from Jammu to Srinagar by road, Union Minister for Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju’s car met with a minor accident. No one was injured in the accident. Honorable minister was driven safely to his destination,” said police.
