    Hyderabad: Over 1.17 Crore people have undergone eye screenings and 18 lakh beneficiaries got spectacles under the Kanti Velugu programme of the State government.

    According to the officials, so far, 1,17,75,604 people which includes 55,29,373 males, 62,34,558 females and 4896 transgenders across the state were screened through the Kanti Velugu programme, which is aimed at blindness-free Telangana. The officials said that 18,19,113 visually impaired people were identified and given free spectacles and medicines.

    The beneficiaries expressed happiness that thousands of rupees are being saved for the poor middle class families with the government’s initiative for implementing Kanti Velugu Scheme. While 14,05,709 people were identified for prescription glasses, 85,50,429 people were diagnosed without any eye problems.

    Hyderabad: The Kanti Velugu programme aimed at avoiding the controllable blindness would be achieving the milestone of one crore screenings in a couple of days as the health staff has so far screened over 96.7 lakh people in the medical camps in the State in 47 days.

    According to the officials, eye glasses were given to 15.65 lakh people till date under the Kanti Velugu program. The programme started with the slogan of ‘Blindness Free Telangana’ is continuing successfully across the State.

    The programme started on January 18. In the second phase, a total of 96,07,764 people have been examined in 47 working days and 60.55 percent of the target has been reached.

    This includes 45 lakh males, 50 lakh females and 3,112 transgender. Reading glasses were distributed to 15.65 lakh people while prescription glasses were identified for 11.68 lakh people and 68.73 lakh people were diagnosed without any eye problems. On August 15, 2018, the first phase of Kanti Velugu was launched in Malkapur of Medak district and continued for eight months. Free eye tests were conducted to 1.5crore people and 50 lakh spectacles were distributed.

    The people who come to these camps express their happiness and praised the government for the programme. The programme would continue till June 15. Out of 12,789 Gram Panchayats in the State, 52 per cent of the target of Kanti Velugu has been achieved so far in 6,567 Gram Panchayats. Another 946 Gram Panchayats are nearing the target.

    The second phase has set a target of conducting eye tests to 1.70 crore people in 100 working days. Medical officials said that there were good chances of reaching the planned target of 1 crore eye tests so far.

    Likewise, if the programme continues in this way, it is possible to conduct Kanti Velugu tests to two crore people.

    Hyderabad: The State government has so far screened over 80 lakh people and distributed 13.70 lakh spectacles to the needy. According to the Health department officials, so far 80,67,243 people were screened across the State under the ‘KantiVelugu’ programme, which is aimed at avoiding treatable blindness. As many as 13,70,296 persons, with visual problems, have been identified and given free spectacles and medicines. The beneficiaries have expressed happiness that thousands of rupees were being saved for the poor middle class families with government medical care.

    The government had launched the KantiVelugu scheme with the aim of health for all. The programme is for 100 days from January 19 to June 15. The administration has made elaborate arrangements in districts to make the programme successful. District collectors, Medical and Health staff and officials of various departments have been running the KantiVelugu camps.

    The figures recorded in the camps show that in all districts there were more people who were troubled by not being able to see closely. Many aged over 40 come to camps with short-sight. Reading glasses were provided to such people immediately. Besides, vitamin A, D and B complex tablets are being distributed to many people who are coming with eye problems. People aged above 50 were found mostly suffering from cataract. Information about the treatment time for those who need surgery is being provided through mobile phones. Doctors are giving advice and instructions to those who had already completed surgery and are suffering from other problems.

    To mark the International Women’s Day, the government had made arrangements to conduct free medical check-ups for women at health centres. Necessary tests were conducted for women in eight categories and arrangements made to provide free follow-up treatment to those diagnosed with diseases. The government launched 100 Arogya Mahila Kendras in the State. Every Tuesday women are being tested at the centres and measures taken to provide further treatment. Basic diagnostic, cancer screening, micronutrient deficiencies, urinary tract infections, PID, PCOS, family planning, menstrual problems, menopause management, sexually-transmitted diseases, body weight issues are being tested.
