    K’taka Cong chief Shivakumar wins Kanakapura seat

    NEW DELHI: Congress’ Karnataka state president D.K. Shivakumar has won from the Kanakapura constituency in Ramanagara district by a margin of over 57,000 votes.

    Shivakumar was maintaining the lead right from the start of the counting on Saturday.

    BJP’s R. Ashoka lost by a big margin, and JD(S)’s B. Nagaraju finished second in the contest.As of 12:45 p.m., Shivakumar had secured 63,475 votes. Nagaraju 11,306 votes, and Ashoka had polled 10,086 votes, according to the Election Commission of India (ECI).

    As the counting continues, Congress leads with 132 seats in Karnataka while the BJP stands at 66.

    Congress’ K.M. Shivalinge Gowda won from Arsikere by a margin of over 17,000.

    Karnataka (ANI): Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar on Friday said that if the grand old party comes to power in the assembly elections, it will reverse the abolition of 4 per cent Muslim quota by the ruling government.
    In March, the Karnataka government decided to scrap the four per cent quota for minorities and add it to the existing quota for the two major communities in the state holding elections.
    The 4 percent reservation given to Muslims under the 2B classification of the OBC category will now be divided into two equal parts and added to the existing quota of Vokkaligas and Lingayats, for whom two new reservation categories of 2C and 2D were created during the Belagavi Assembly session.     Speaking to ANI, Shivakumar said, “We made our two lists without any complications. BJP has not been able to extend its list yet… More lists will come… As soon as our government comes, we will cancel the reservation issue.” Will do and protect minority interests.”

    The Congress had announced its first list of 124 candidates on March 25, which included the names of former CM Siddaramaiah and state party chief DK Shivakumar.
    Assembly elections in Karnataka are to be held on May 10 and the counting of votes will take place on May 13.
