    Odisha: Helper’s body dismembers due to accident in Keonjhar

    Keonjhar: In a tragic incident, a man’s body dismembered into multiple pieces after two trucks collided with each other in Odisha’s Keonjhar district. The accident occurred at the By Pass road near Keonjhar city.

    According to reports, the driver slept while driving, due to which the truck they were travelling in had a head-on collision with another truck. Due to the accident, the helper’s body dismembered into pieces.

    On being informed, police reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it for autopsy. The cops have also started to probe into the matter.

    Odisha Millet Mission Celebrates Raja Festival With People In Keonjhar

    Keonjhar: As state is celebrating Raja festival, the Odisha Millet Mission brought a fun and entertaining show for the people of Keonjhar at the Smart Bazaar near Gandhi Square in the town.

    Raja, one of the most popular festivals in Odisha, is celebrated for three consecutive days. Just as the earth prepares itself to quench its thirst with the incoming rain, unmarried girls  are groomed for impending matrimony through this festival.

    Odisha Millet Mission, a flagship programme under the state government, has been taking various innovative and exciting approaches to promote millets in the state. Odisha Millet Mission is organising a series of entertaining events called ‘Know about Odisha’s Millet’ in the top 20 cities of the state to raise awareness about millet.

    The broad idea behind this event being held in Keonjhar on Thursday and Friday is to keep infusing the key message into the audience’s minds, that is, to accept millet into their daily dietary habits, all while keeping the crowd engaged and entertained. And for that, TV and YouTube comedians Suji Kumar Jena, Dolly, and singer Mandeep are invited to perform during the event.

    The event started with the anchors introducing Odisha Millet Mission and the purpose of the day’s show to the audience, followed by a few local harmonies to attract the crowd. It then proceeded to discuss the widely accepted unhealthy eating habits, portrayed through a hilarious comedy skit.

    Keonjhar: Elderly man stages protest, Threatens to consume poison over Old Age Pension woes

    Keonjhar: An elderly man has staged indefinite dharna and threatening to consume poison in Hatadihi block of Keonjhar district in Odisha since the last three days over non-disbursement of old age pension.

    According to sources, a man along with 20 other people has staged an indefinite dharna has been facing trouble getting the old age pension since last few months. They have to run from office to office in order to get the old age pension. After repeated rejection, they were forced to protest in this way and has threated to commit suicide.

    The man, Dasarathi Jena of Sadanga panchayat in Hatadihi block of the district, was joined by over 20 other beneficiaries who have reportedly been deprived of the social security assistance.

    He has been siting on protest with a bottle of poison in Sadanga. He claimed that nearly 40 beneficiaries in the panchayat have been suffering as old age pension has been halted since last four months.

    Elephant Calf Rescued From Well In Odisha’s Keonjhar

    Keonjhar: A baby elephant was rescued from an abandoned well after an ardous operation by forest department officials in Champua area of Odisha’s Keonjhar district on Thursday.

    Sources said the elephant calf had slipped into the 10-foot deep well in a forest area along the Baitarani River at Tuntuna under the Champua forest range.

    The baby elephant had aparently got separated from a 24-member herd that had come from the Kalikaprasad Reserve forest on Wednesday night. The herd comprised nine tuskers, six female elephants, and nine calfs. The jumbo herd was moving towards Tuntuna forest through Kanchanpur.

    On being informed, forest officials rushed to the spot and initiated a rescue operation at early this morning and managed to bring out the calf safely by using JCB.

    The condition of the baby elephant was good and it was later released into the forest, according to DFO Dhanraj Hanumant.

    Keonjhar: In a recent development to the border dispute in Keonjhar – Bhadrak area, section 144 has been imposed by the district administration. This has been done to prevent any further law and order situation that may arise.

    A major turmoil has taken place between two villages relating to the extent of their border in Keonjhar district of Odisha. A clash broke out at Orali on Bhadrak road in Anandpur block of Keonjhar, over a border dispute between two villages.

    More than ten people were injured and one shop, two cars and a bike were set on fire. A dispute has arisen between Orali and Apanda of Bhadrak district regarding the Orali intersection of Anandpur-Bhadrak road in Keonjhar district.

    Many years ago this street was named Orali Street. The people of Apanda village have been demanding to name it as Apanda Street. Due to which tension prevailed in the area, said reliable reports.

    Some people of Orali village protested against the installation of information boards that read Apanda road. A fight broke out between them and they threw stones at each other. Banta police reached the spot and monitored the situation.

    Keonjhar: In a laudable step, girl student appeared for +2 exams in the allotted centre immediately after being bitten by a snake in Keonjhar district of Odisha.

    According to reports, the student wrote her paper after reportedly being bitten by snake.

    But, while writing the exams, the authorities were forced to shift her to nearby hospital as she complained of uneasiness in the middle of the exam.

    Later on she had to be shifted to the Anandapur sub-divisional hospital as her health condition deteriorated.

    Tusker electrocuted in Keonjhar

    Keonjhar: A couple of days after two elephants were found dead in Ghumusara area in Ganjam, an elephant was reportedly electrocuted at Basantpur Jadipadasahi under Champua forest range in Odisha’s Keonjhar district on Sunday.

    According to sources, carcass of the tusker was found entwined in high tension wires, indicating that it could have died due to electrocution. The 11 KV wires were also found hanging precariously low in the area.

    The forest department claimed that it had earlier alerted officials of the energy department about the low hanging electric wires, , but no step was allegedly taken in this regard, leading to its electrocution.

    In August 2022, two elephants were electrocuted on the OUAT campus under the Keonjhar Sadar range.

    These incident have exposed a glaring lack of coordination between forest, energy and other government agencies in securing elephants’ movement.

    Notably, the state reports one of the highest numbers of elephant electrocution in the country.
