    Youth shot by miscreants in Kendrapara

    Kendrapara: A bike-borne youth was shot by some miscreants in Odisha’s Kendrapara district. The incident occurred near Mangala Chakk under the Marshaghai police limits of the district.

    The youth has been identified as Sakti Chandra Mohanty (22) of Jagatsinghpur district of the state.

    According to sources, the youth was riding his bike, when some miscreants shot him. Due to the gunshot, he has been critically injured. The locals rescued him and immediately rushed him to the nearby hospital.

    After receiving information, police reached the spot and initiated a probe into the matter. However, the reason behind shooting the youth is yet to be ascertained.

    Further detailed reports related to the case are awaited.

    Bhubaneswar: The estimated tiger population in Odisha dropped to 20 from 28 according to Tiger Estimation Report released by Govt of India on International Tigers Day. 

    The Tiger Estimation Report was released today by GoI on the occasion of the “Global Tiger Day” at Corbett Tiger Reserve. It shows estimated number of tigers in Similipal Tiger Reserve to have increased to 16 from the previous estimated figure of 08 in 2018.

    Efforts of frontline forest personnel and forest fringe villages of similipal deserve appreciation. In fact, on this occasion, Late Mathy Hansdah, Forester n Late Bimal Kr Jena, FG who laid their life protecting TR have been posthumously felicitated by NTCA together with Sri Himanshu Sethi, FG.

    However, overall tiger estimated population is now 20 (ranging in between 17-24) from previous such figure of 28 (range then being 26-30). Aforesaid estimation is based on the field exercise done in 2021-22.

    As ordered by CM Naveen during last review of the departmental works in May, 2023, we will be carrying out the estimation ourselves in the State commencing from Oct 2023. This exercise will provide the updated status of the tigers in the State.

    Cuttack: A family narrowly escaped in Banki area of Cuttack district in Odisha. The family members slept on a mat for the whole night while a poisonous 2 and half feet long cobra was there under the mat the whole time. The family was shocked to find the deadly snake under the mat in the morning.

    The incident took place in the Nuagan village in Kiapala panchayat under Banki Block on Friday night.

    As per reports, the bed was draped with a mattress while a mat had been put over it. The family of Dhirendra Rout slept on it for the whole night.

    Like usual, last night Rout slept on the bed with his wife and two children while the mosquito net was also hanged.

    Yet at dawn, realizing that something was moving under the mat, he tapped his hand on the mat and soon assumed that there was a snake under the mat.

    He immediately awoke his wife and told her to take the children and move away. After everyone got off the bed, a two-and-a-half-foot long snake came out from under the mat.

    The family was shocked to witness the snake. The man immediately informed the snake helpline members. The snake helpline members rushed to the spot and caught the snake. Later they released it into a lonely place in the nearby hilly area.

    It is advised that snakes are more common on rainy days. So keep your house, garden etc. clean and tidy. Trim dead trees and bushes. Clean the house regularly. Be careful and keep your life safe.

    More than 2.62 lakh families included in health insurance scheme in Jalandhar: DC Special Sarangal

    Jalandhar | Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal informed that a total of 2,62,466 eligible families have been covered under the AB-MM Sarbat Sehat Bima Yojana in Jalandhar district. These families will be able to avail cashless health services in all 73 empaneled hospitals including 60 private and 13 public sector health establishments.

    While reviewing this scheme, the Deputy Commissioner has directed the officials to make concerted efforts to cover 100% beneficiaries under this scheme so that each beneficiary can take advantage of this health care scheme. He said that each family would be able to avail treatment up to Rs five lakh in all empaneled hospitals.

    The Deputy Commissioner further said that the eligible beneficiaries can take advantage of on-spot enrollment and e-card generation at their nearest Common Service Centers and government healthcare establishments including CHCs, Sub-Divisional Hospitals and District Hospital. He said that for enrollment and e-generation of the card, they will have to carry their Aadhaar card and the beneficiaries should also have PAN card, Ration card or registered construction worker card, Journalist ID (yellow and recognition card), and Kisan ID along with it.     Describing the MM-Sarbat Sehat Bima Yojana as a game-changer scheme, he said that people can avail cashless treatment up to Rs 5 lakh. Beneficiaries can check their eligibility at sha.punjab.gov.in.

CM Mann-led Punjab government is running various schemes for the empowerment, safety and welfare of women in the state. Social Security and Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur said that under Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, eligible beneficiary women (lactating mothers) would be given financial assistance in one installment of Rs.6000 after the birth of their second child.

    Under this scheme, financial assistance of Rs 5000 is given to pregnant women and lactating mothers for the birth of their first child. He said that giving financial assistance of Rs 6000 after the birth of second girl child would improve the sex ratio at birth of girls, which would help in stopping the practice of sex selection before birth. This will improve the health of lactating mothers and help improve the nutritional well-being of the child.

    The cabinet minister said that under this scheme, the benefit of Rs 6,000 will be directly transferred to the bank/post office accounts of the beneficiaries. To avail this, forms are filled by Anganwadi workers in all Anganwadi centers of Punjab. To get this benefit every beneficiary should have Aadhaar card and Aadhaar card should be linked to the bank account. The minister further informed that the beneficiaries can submit their applications by registering themselves on the online portal (https://pmmvy.nic.in/) sitting at home. Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur ordered the officers to implement the scheme in a transparent and efficient manner.

The young man was shot dead at a store in Victor Valley, California. Giving information, Praveen Kumar’s father Surat Singh said that he has 2 sons and both work at the same place in America. It has been 7 years since Praveen went to America and the younger son has gone to America only 3 months ago.

    Surat Singh said that his younger son told that an armed robber came to the place where Praveen worked and demanded money from him. When Praveen protested, the robber fired at him. Praveen died due to bullet injury. Due to this sad news, a wave of mourning has run in the area. Surat Singh has appealed to the Government of India to help bring the body of his son Praveen Kumar to India.

Along with this, record breaking 3,32,655 new connections have also increased in the year. Many people have taken the name of different members in the family to take advantage of the scheme. On the other hand, for giving 300 units of free electricity, the Punjab government has to pay more subsidy of about Rs.6000 crores.
