    Man On The Run Since 1993 After Committing Double Murder Arrested By Mumbai Police

    The Mumbai Police Crime Branch, on June 16, arrested Avinash Bhimrao Pawar who was on the run since 1993. According to the police, a case was registered against Pawar in Lonavala under charges of murder (IPC Section 302) for killing Dhanraj Thakrasi Kurva (aged 55) and Dhanlaxmi Dhanraj Kurva (50). The case dates back to October 4, 1993, when Pawar along with his two friends– Amol John and Vijay Arun Desai– allegedly stabbed and strangulated the victims to death.

    Police solve 30-year-old murder case
    The absconder was arrested after a Mumbai Police Crime Branch officer received a tip-off. The police was informed about a person residing in Mumbai with a false identity following which he was trapped and interrogated by the Crime Branch. During the interrogation, Pawar confessed to the police about his crime. While on the run, he changed his name multiple times to avoid arrest and kept changing his location to avoid being traced. Moving forward, the Mumbai Police will hand him over to Lonavala Police for further trial.

    Mumbai Police DCP Crime, Raj Tilak Roshan, while addressing the media, said, “Crime Branch unit 9 of Mumbai Police had got inputs that one person who has committed a crime, is living in Mumbai with a false identity. Following this, he was apprehended and later during the interrogation he confessed about the murder. He was on the run for the last 30 years. He is an accused in a double murder case.” The DCP revealed that he owned a shop near the house of the victims. While his associates were arrested immediately, Pawar escaped and was living in Mumbai’s Vikhroli before his arrest.

    COIMBATORE: A 57-year-old Coimbatore man has lost Rs 10.95 lakh to online fraudsters, who promised high returns in a short span of time.
    P Gopalakrishnan, 57, of Maniyakaranpalayam near Ganapathy, who is working in a textile marketing company, received a message on his WhatsApp number from one Savani Gupta in January that offered him a part time job.
    He was informed that he could click online links to watch advertisements and get paid for it. A few days later, he got a few thousand rupees in his account after he submitted his PAN and bank account details.
    A message he received after getting the money informed him that he can multiply the money by investing it with them. Lured by high returns he invested the money and got returns. As he gained confidence, he started investing in lakhs. He did not get any returns after that. Instead, the scamsters encouraged him to invest more to release the money.
    He invested a total of Rs 10, 95, 685 between January and April.
    He approached the cyber crime police station in the city and lodged a complaint. The police registered a case under the sections of the IT Act. Cyber crime inspector P A Arun conducted an inquiry.

    Nagpur: Man Booked For Giving Wife Triple Talaq

    A man was booked in Nagpur for allegedly giving his wife divorce through the triple talaq method, which has been banned, a police official said on Monday.

    The man, identified as Ayaz Sheikh (34) of Bhandara, gave divorce to his wife over the phone, after which she filed a case with Sakkardara police station, the official said.

    The man and the 26-year-old woman had gotten married in 2015 but the former was torturing and harassing her, the official said quoting the complaint.

    He has been booked under provisions of the Indian Penal Code and Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019, the official added.

    Man sentenced to life imprisonment in sexual assault case

    An Additional Sessions Judge (Fast Track Special Court under POCSO Act) of district court, Jagadhri, sentenced a man to rigorous life imprisonment for sexually abusing an eight-year-old girl.

    Guldev Kumar, Special Public Prosecutor, said the ASJ also imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on convict Dharambir (25), who lived near a brick kiln in Jagadhri.

    The judgment was delivered on April 10.

    On the complaint of the victim’s mother, a case was registered against Dharambir under Section 376 AB of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 6 and 17 of the POCSO Act at the city police station, Jagadhri, on July 2, 2021.

    The victim’s mother stated that her daughter had gone to a shop close to the brick kiln to buy a bulb holder around 8 pm on July 1, 2021, when the incident occurred.

    The accused was later arrested by the police.

    Hyderabad: In a shocking incident, a 26-year-old man was reportedly shot dead by unknown persons in the city late on Tuesday night.

    The incident took place at Tappachabutra. According to the sources, the man identified as Akash Singh, from old city had gone to Toopkhana area in Tappachabutra to meet some persons known to him to settle an ongoing issue when he was shot dead with a weapon. He died on the spot.

    “The assailants fired multiple rounds on Akash using a weapon. Three months ago, he was booked in a case of murder attempt and remanded. He was out on bail,” said DCP (south west) Kiran Khare.

    The police suspect one Kranthi with whom Akash was having some disputes might have attacked him.

    On information the police rushed to the spot and shifted the body to Osmania General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem. A case is booked. Clues team too reached the crime scene and inspected the area.

    It is said that said Kranthi had lured Akash to the area on pretext of discussing an issue and attacked him.

    Special teams are formed to investigate the case and nab the suspects.

    Similarly, a man reportedly murdered his own father at their house on Tuesday night following an argument.

    The police informed that the victim was identified as N Venkatesh (42) was living with his family at Kargil Nagar Kulsumpura police station limits.

    It is learnt that Venkatesh came home in an inebriated condition and began a quarrelling with his family. In a fit of rage, his son Sai Kumar strangled his father to death using a towel.

    The police rushed to the spot and shifted the body to Osmania General Hospital for post-mortem. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway. It is reported that Sai Kumar is taken into custody.

    KOCHI: A 38-year-old man was arrested on Saturday for attempting to rape a nurse at an Ayurveda hospital near SN Junction in Tripunithura. The arrested is Sreejith, of Akadandu in Perumbavoor, who works as an electrician at the hospital.

    The assault occurred at 11 pm on Thursday. The police said Sreejith reached the nursing station while the survivor was resting and attempted to rape her after locking the room of the doctor who was on duty. He allegedly dragged her to another room and attempted to rape her.

    However, she somehow managed to escape. Upon realising that things would get worse, Sreejith arrived at the hospital on Friday and threatened the nurse.

    He showed her photos of guns and swords kept in his car and told her that he would use them on her if she revealed the incident to anyone. The nurse informed her husband about the incident and he lodged a complaint with the police.
