    Man arrested for smuggling gold biscuits worth Rs 3.3 crore

    Mumbai News: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Kolkata has arrested a man from Virar in connection with a gold biscuits smuggling case worth Rs3.39 crore. The arrest took place after the interrogation of the two accused who were arrested earlier. According to DRI Kolkata, they received information about smuggled gold stored in a building belonging to Arunangshu Mukherjee in Ganguly Road, Howrah.

    Accused committed activities in rented flat

    Mukherjee told DRI that he had given a room on rent to a businessman, Ashwin Saroj, of Uttar Pradesh. Meanwhile, Saroj’s associate Bhupendra Singh Songara, alias Guru, came to this place and found 5.6kg of foreign gold in his possession. During questioning, Sonegra revealed that he had come to give this gold to Saroj’s cousin Aman Saroj and then from Aman, it was supposed to be delivered to Idramani Ram in Mumbai.

    Gold came to Kolkata via Bangladesh

    Aman told DRI that he come there on the instructions of another person, Monu Saroj. Monu had instructed Aman to take the gold from Sonegra and take a train from Howrah station to Mumbai and hand over the gold to Ram in Virar. DRI shared the information with the police and the Mumbai unit of DRI took Ram into custody from Virar.

    Ram confessed to police that he received the gold biscuits from Bangladesh. Further investigation is underway.

    Odisha STF arrested a man with leopard skin

    Bhubaneswar (IANS) | The STF of Odisha Police has seized three leopard skins and arrested a wildlife criminal. Officials gave this information on Thursday. Acting on a tip-off, a team of STF on Wednesday raided near Siriguda Swargadham Chowk and seized a leopard skin and arrested a person.

    The accused has been identified as Dambrudhar Majhi of Rayagada district.

    STF officials said a case has been registered under sections of IPC and Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 and further investigation is underway.

    The seized leopard skin will be sent to the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun, for examination.

    Kochi (IANS) | A man has been arrested for uploading a nude photo of his wife on a sex chat app in Kerala’s Thrissur district. Sebi, 33, who clicked the pictures with his mobile, is currently in police custody.

    Sebi has also been accused of physically harming his wife. For this, a complaint was also lodged against him.

    Man arrested in Odisha for cheating in defence exam

    Berhampur: In a shocking incident, a man from Haryana has been arrested for cheating in the defence exams in Gopalpur of Odisha, said reports.

    Reports say that, a 24-year-old man was arrested for allegedly using a Bluetooth device in an army recruitment examination in Odisha’s Gopalpur, police said.

    The accused has been identified as Vijay, a resident of Jind district of Haryana. Berhampur Superintendent of Police Saravana Vivek M said a Bluetooth device and SIM cards were seized from his possession.

    The exam was being held at Army Air Defence Centre at Gopalpur military station on Sunday. Reports say, he was caught by the invigilator and handed over to the police.

    Earlier in the year 2020 the Delhi High Court, while dismissing a petition filed by Delhi University student allegedly caught cheating during the examination, observed that “copying and cheating” in examinations is like a “pandemic which can ruin society and the educational system of any country”.

    “Copying and cheating in examinations is like the plague. It is a pandemic which can ruin society and the educational system of any country. If the same is left unchecked or if leniency is shown, the same can have a deleterious effect.

    For any country’s progress, the integrity of the educational system has to be infallible,” observed a single judge bench of Justice Pratibha M. Singh.

    The observation came in while the court was hearing a petition filed by Aarzoo Aggarwal, a final year student of B.A. (H) Economics at DU’s Daulat Ram College challenging the University’s order cancelling her examinations for the entire semester.

    Man arrested for posting obscene photo of woman journalist in Odisha

    Bhubaneswar: A man has been arrested on Wednesday for posting photo of a woman journalist by using odd caption and obscene words. He posted the video on YouTube which went viral.

    The accused has been identified as Umakanta Panigrahi. He was arrested from Simulia area of Balasore district.

    As per reports, on April 7, 2023 a woman journalist of a private web channel had gone to Maharaja Cinema Hall in Bhubaneswar to collect news on the film ‘Delivery Boy’. In this regard when she was talking to actor Buddhaditya Mohanty at the lobby of the Cinema Hall, the accused allegedly had recorded her video.

    Later, the accused posted the said video on Youtube with an odd caption. He also allegedly used some filthy words in the video.

    After the lady journalist saw the video on YouTube she lodged a complaint with Mahila Police Station on April 8. On the basis of the complaint Police swung into action and today arrested the accused.

    Further investigation of the case is underway.
