    Charas smuggling case, 9 years rigorous imprisonment to the convict

    Mandi. An accused of charas smuggling in District Mandi has been convicted by the court. The court sentenced the accused to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 9 years under Section 20 NDPS Act and to pay a fine of Rs.20,000. The accused has been identified as Narpat Ram S/o Shobha Village Doba Post Office Batwada Tehsil Sundernagar District Mandi.

    The sentence was pronounced by Additional Sessions Judge Special Judge Sundernagar. Sub-District Magistrate Sundarnagar Vinay Verma said that in case of non-payment of fine, he will have to undergo additional rigorous imprisonment of 6 months. According to Vinay Verma, on July 14, 2013, the police team of BSL Colony Sundernagar police station, Jatnala Chambi, during patrolling, recovered 955 grams of charas from the possession of accused Narpat Ram. A case was registered against the accused, which was investigated by Sub-Inspector Binny Manhas, the then in-charge of the police station, and after completion of the investigation, the challan was presented in the court.

    In the court, the prosecution got the statements of 8 witnesses recorded. After hearing the prosecution and the accused, the court of Special Judge Sundernagar found the accused Narpat Ram guilty and sentenced him to the above sentence.

In which three youths have very cleverly executed 5 theft incidents in a single night. These youths first stole the car parked in the parking lot and then broke the locks of 4 shops in Oat area and carried out various thefts.

    The police have arrested one of the three youths involved in the theft incident. At the same time, maximum of the goods stolen by them have also been recovered. It is being told that these three youths are suffering from drug addiction. Let us inform that this case of various theft incidents in a single night is on the night of 4th and 5th June.

    First these youths stole a car parked in Mandi town on the night of 4th June. After this, all these youths reached Oat with the car. In Oat, these drug addict youths first stole 15 to 20 boxes of refined oil from the vehicle parked outside the wholesale shop. After this, these youths broke the lock of the liquor shop in Takoli, from where they stole 6 cases of liquor.

    Then cleaned my hand in Kariyana shop in Panarsa. After this, these youths stole many equipment from the mobile repair shop. While returning back to Mandi, these youths then stole the tire of a Mahindra vehicle parked on the roadside. After this, these intoxicated youths parked the car used in the theft incident in the same parking lot from where they had taken it.

    So that neither the car owner suspects these youths nor the police can reach them. Police started searching for these youths on the basis of CCTV footage. While investigating the case, the police arrested a youth Chetan Sharma alias Mannu within 24 hours.

    At the same time, all the stolen goods have also been recovered. This drug addict youth is a resident of Urla in Padhar and lives in a rented room in Mandi city. The case has been confirmed by Additional Superintendent of Police Sagar Chandra.

    The four-day Himachal Utsav began at Sanskriti Sadan in the district yesterday. Congress MLA from Dharampur Chander Shekhar inaugurated the event.

    The MLA said the utsav would be organised every year in major cities of the state and the country to promote and spread the local culture and art. He said in this four-day event, artistes would introduce the culture of their respective districts.

    “Himachal is rich and prosperous due to its cultural heritage. All folk artists have played an important role in preserving it,” he added.

    The MLA urged the coming generation to come forward to keep this legacy alive and cherish it. He said Mandi was the cultural capital of the state. “The Department of Language and Culture has provided a great platform to the artistes to showcase their talent in this event,” he added.

    He further said that the government was constantly making efforts to preserve the cultural heritage and bring artistes forward.

    Mandi: Additional District Sessions Judge Sundernagar sentenced two accused from Punjab, who were caught with 144 grams of charas, to 8-8 months rigorous imprisonment and to pay a fine of Rs.20,000 each.

    Deputy District Magistrate Sundernagar Vinay Sharma told that on August 6, 2012, ASI Shiv Kumar of Sundernagar police station along with his colleagues killed two people Jitendra s/o Tilak Raj Mohalla Malkana, near Sangam Palace Kapurthala Punjab and Amritsar Road during blockade at Cinema Chowk on National Highway. Harjinder Singh S/o Kartar Chand House No. 766 Engine Shed Manjit Nagar Ward No. 36 Ludhiana was caught with 144 grams of Charas.

    A case under Section 20 of the NDPS Act was registered against them in Sundernagar police station and a challan was presented in the court. Statements of 10 witnesses were recorded and after hearing both the sides, the court of Special Judge Sundernagar sentenced both of them to 8-8 months rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs.20,000. In default of payment of the fine, both will have to undergo additional imprisonment of two months.

    Mandi: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur listened to the “Mann Ki Baat” of the Prime Minister in Mandi Sadar along with workers at booth number 48 Chadyara. Sadar MLA Anil Sharma, Balh MLA Inder Singh, District President Ranveer Singh, Milkfed Chairman Nihal Chand, Mayor Deepali Jaswal, Deputy Mayor Virendra Bhatt, District Media Incharge Prashant Sharma, Mahila Morcha District President Suman Thakur, Mandal President Manish Kapoor, Yuva Morcha were present on the occasion.
