    After train crash, Aviation Ministry advises airlines not to increase fares to, from Bhubaneswar

    NEW DELHI: In the midst of a horrific train crash in Odisha, the Ministry of Civil Aviation on Saturday advised airline companies to keep an eye on the unusual surge in fares of flights coming to and from Bhubaneswar. The Ministry of civil aviation (MoCA) has issued an advisory to all airline companies not to increase fares.

    “In view of the unfortunate accident in Odisha, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has advised all airlines to monitor any abnormal surge in airfares to and from Bhubaneswar and other airports of the State and take necessary action regarding the same,” MoCA said. Further, the ministry has advised all airlines not to charge any fee for cancellation and rescheduling to Bhubaneswar.

    “Any cancellation and rescheduling on flights due to the incident may be done without penal charges,” MoCA has advised all the airline companies.

    The accident involved the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, the Coromandel Express and a goods train on three separate tracks at Bahanaga Bazar Station in the State’s Balasore district. According to Odisha Government’s Special Relief Commissioner’s office 17 coaches of the two trains had derailed and severely damaged on Friday evening.

    As per the information received till now from the South Eastern Railway, there are 288 casualties. As total of 56 passengers have suffered grievous injury and 747 passengers were minorly injured. Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached the train crash site in Odisha’s Balasore. He was accompanied by Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

    At the site PM Modi spoke to Cabinet Secretary and Health Minister and asked them to ensure all needed help is provided to the injured and their families, government sources said. After taking stock of crash incident, PM Modi visited Fakir Mohan Hospital, Balasore, where some of the passengers injured in Friday’s accident involving three trains were admitted. After meeting the crash survivors, he said that directions have been given to probe the train accident and that whoever is found guilty will not be spared.

    He also thanked the people of Odisha, who came forward to help crash survivors, whether by donating blood or providing assistance in the rescue operation. Prior to this, PM Modi had also convened a meeting to review the situation in connection with the rail accident.

    Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel visited the Mahamaya Airport in Ambikapur today. He viewed the runway and praised the officials for getting good-quality work completed within the deadline. He stated that discussions for developing Mahamaya Airport in Surguja were being held at the state and national level. Today, the airport has the capacity to land big airplanes too. This entire area is spread across 374 acres of land and the officers have been instructed to prepare an action plan for further development of the airport so that a higher number of bigger airplanes can land here. This has been possible through an 1800 m. airstrip constructed at Rs. 48 crores. Chief Minister said that the DGCA team will visit the airport for inspection after 3 days and they will apply for a license right after. Normally, a license is issued within 25 days of the application.

    He said that he used to discuss this topic with the Health Minister Mr. T.S. Singh Deo and Food Minister Mr. Amarjeet Bhagat as well. Additionally, they were in continuous contact with the Ministry of Aviation. He further said that they will offer the suggestion of starting flights from Ambikapur to Delhi, Banaras, and Raipur to the Aviation Ministry. The approval of the suggestion will create better possibilities for development in the tourism sector in this area. The 3-day Banaras and 3-day Delhi flights will make the beauty of Surguja easily accessible through aviation. The beauty of Surguja is remarkable and with the new aviation facility, tourists from all over the country will enjoy the beautiful views of the hills and forests of Surguja, including Mainpat and the hills of Ramgarh. Additionally, they can also enjoy the hot water sources in Tatapani.

    He further said that the best time to visit Sarguja is October-November and with the launching of aviation facilities, tourists on a large scale will visit this place during that time. It will also enable tourists to contemplate the Ram Van Gaman Tourism Circuit and the heavenly views of Surguja. This way, Surguja will soon establish itself as a major tourism center in Chhattisgarh.

    The Chief Minister said that the Surguja airport is amongst the oldest airports in the country. A WBM airport was constructed here after the nation’s independence in 1950. Indira Ji had visited the airport in 1974. Now when the airport has been developed, private airplanes can also land here and with the landing of big airplanes, rapid development in the tourism sector of Surguja is expected. Sharing an old memory, the Chief Minister said that earlier, when flights used to land here, it used to feel like diving. Now the airstrip in the Surguja Airport is allowing smooth landings. On this occasion, the Chief Minister gifted sarees to 5 women engaged in airport construction work.

    The Chief Minister Mr.Bhupesh Bhagel was accorded a rousing reception at the airport in the presence of Health Minister Mr. T S Singh Deo, Food and Culture Minister Mr. Amarjeet Bhagat, Lundra MLA Dr. Pritam Ram, IG Mr. Ramgopal Garg, Collector Mr. Kundan Kumar, SP Mrs. Bhavna Gupta, CEO of District Panchayat Mr. Vishwadeep and local public representatives.
