India tests advanced missile, will blow up the target in a jiffy

New Delhi (IANS) | A very important and successful test of an advanced missile has been done from the Indian Navy’s destroyer INS ‘Mormugao’. During the testing of this missile, known as ‘Sea Skimming’, the missile hit the target floating in the sea from below. According to the Indian Navy, the missile was accurately tracked during the test and was successful in hitting its target. The Navy says that this missile is capable of hitting its target up to a distance of 300 km.
‘Sea skimming’ refers to a missile that flies very close to the surface of the water. Generally it stays at a height of less than 10 feet. INS Mormugao is a powerful warship built in India. It weighs 7,400 tonnes, is 163 meters in length and 17 meters in width.
INS Mormugao is already equipped with missiles like BrahMos and Barak-8. This modern Indian-made warship is fitted with Israel’s MF-STAR radar, which can detect long-range air targets. However, both this warship of the Indian Navy and the weapons fitted in it are indigenous.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh had dedicated ‘Mormugao’ to the Indian Navy in December last year. Tested from Mormugao, this is an advanced missile which hit a floating target in the sea while flying down. This is called Sea Skimming. After testing, the Indian Navy has described it as another step towards self-reliant India.
Earlier on May 14, BrahMos missile was test fired from Mormugao. Even during the last test, the missile hit its target very well. Mormugao has been designed by the Warship Design Bureau of the Indian Navy. It is the world’s most modern missile carrier equipped with weapons. With this, targets can be hit from 300 km away.
Indian Navy’s ‘Mormugao’ has become more lethal after successful testing of BrahMos and Sea Skimming missiles. This warship has been named after the port city of Goa. The warship made its maiden voyage on 19 December 2021, when Goa celebrated 60 years of independence from Portuguese rule.

DRDO, Navy Successfully Test Sea-Based Ballistic Interceptor Missile

India has successfully conducted a maiden flight trial of a sea-based endo-atmospheric interceptor missile off the coast of Odisha.

With this, India joins a select group of countries, including the United States, Russia, Israel, and China that have fully operational BMD systems. The missile test was conducted by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy on Friday. “The purpose of the trial was to engage and neutralise a hostile ballistic missile threat thereby elevating India into the elite club of nations having Naval BMD capability,” the Ministry of Defence said on Saturday.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, Indian Navy and industry involved in the successful demonstration of ship-based ballistic missile defence (BMD) capabilities.

Prior to this, DRDO successfully demonstrated a land-based BMD system with the capability to neutralise ballistic missile threats, emerging from adversaries.
