  • Fresh political controversy in poll-bound MP as video of Cong’s Naari Samman Yojana forms go viral

Fresh political controversy in poll-bound MP as video of Cong’s Naari Samman Yojana forms go viral

BHOPAL: Political controversies seem to erupt daily as the assembly polls draw closer in BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh.

The latest controversy pertains to the opposition Congress’s much-publicized poll promise–the Naari Samman Yojana–which entails Rs 1500 monthly to financially weak women and Rs 500 gas cylinder if the Congress is voted to power in the upcoming assembly polls.

Young BJP state spokesperson Neha Bagga claimed on Saturday that the filled-up forms of Congress’s Nari Samman Yojana (containing sensitive data of women) are being used by roadside hawkers to serve snacks to customers–thus making those women vulnerable to trouble by fraudsters and anti-social elements.

Bagga shared a 44 seconds video, showing that filled up Naari Samman Yojana forms (which bear the picture of state Congress chief Kamal Nath) are being used to serve snacks to customers at some snacks stalls.

The video possibly has been shot in MP’s most populated city Indore.

In the video (TNIE cannot vouch for its authenticity), two men (possibly customers) are heard talking about Kamal Nath’s Naari Samman Yojana forms being used to serve the snacks along with chutney.

In the same video, when the customers ask the snack stall runner where he got the forms, he replies he purchased those papers from a scrap dealer.

The video shows snacks being prepared and sold as well as customers relishing the snacks in the same forms. The forms mentioned in Hindi, “Naari Samman Yojana, Sashakt Beti Samriddh Naari, Naariyon Ka Samman Madhya Pradesh Ka Abhiyan.”

While showing journalists the concerned video, the BJP state spokesperson Neha Bagga said, “The video exposes how in the name of Naari Samman Yojana a conspiracy has been hatched by the Congress to dupe women in the state. Women filled out these forms which contain their sensitive details, including Samagra ID, Aadhar Card, and phone numbers. Now these forms are being used to sell kachoris and moongfali in snack stalls. This will open floodgates for misuse of the sensitive details of the women (who’ve filled up these forms) by cyber fraudsters and other anti-social elements. BJP takes strong objection to this.”

“Who’ll take responsibility, the Congress party, Priyanka Gandhi or Kamal Nath, if these forms are misused by fraudsters and other anti-social elements to trouble and dupe those women whose details are contained in these forms? The BJP will explore legal options, including lodging FIR in the matter. If the need arose, then we’ll register a case against the Congress and its leaders for not protecting the interests of those women, whose details have gone public,” Bagga added.

The two promises in the scheme form part of the party’s five guarantees spelled out recently by Congress national general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra at the MP poll campaign launch in Jabalpur on June 12.

As per state Congress sources, around 45 lakh women have already filled up the Naari Samman Yojana forms with the help of the Congress workers.

When contacted in the matter, Piyush Babele, the media advisor to the state Congress and its chief Kamal Nath, while expressing ignorance about the video shared by the BJP leader, blamed the BJP for it. “It’s quite possible that the video is the handiwork of BJP’s Dirty Trick Department only, to defame the Congress.”

Third cheetah dies at MP’s Kuno National Park after ‘violent interaction’ during mating

BHOPAL: The Narendra Modi government’s ambitious project to reintroduce the cheetah in the wilds of India – 70 years after the fastest moving animal on earth officially became extinct in the country – has suffered the third jolt in less than 45 days.

An adult South African female cheetah, re-named Daksha last month, died at her enclosure at Madhya Pradesh’s Kuno National Park (KNP) after sustaining grievous injuries in a “violent interaction” with two male South African cheetahs Vayu and Agni, reportedly during mating on Tuesday.

According to MP state forest department sources, “The SA female Daksha was found injured in the Boma-1 (big enclosure it was housed in) by the KNP monitoring team at around 10.48 am. A team of veterinary experts was rushed to treat Daksha, but the SA female died at 12 noon.”

With this, the KNP in Sheopur district is now left with 17 semi-adult and adult Namibian and South African cheetahs and three cubs born to one of the female Namibian cheetahs on March 29.

Tuesday’s casualty is the third African cheetah death at KNP since March 27, when a Namibian female Sasha reportedly died battling acute kidney problems. On April 23, a South African male cheetah Uday died following cardiopulmonary failure.

As per the MP Forest Department’s official statement, while Daksha was housed in Boma-1, the SA male coalition Vayu and Agni were housed in neighbouring Boma-7.

On April 30, a high-level meeting was held at the KNP in connection with the ongoing Project Cheetah. The meeting was attended among others by the National Tiger Conservation Authority director general Dr Amit Mallik, Wildlife Institute of India (WII-Dehradun) population management, capture and rehabilitation expert Dr Qamar Qureshi and two experts from the Cheetah Meta Population Initiative, South Africa.

The meeting resolved to initiate the process of interaction between SA female Daksha and SA male coalition Vayu and Agni, after which the gate between Enclosure-1 and Enclosure-7 was opened. Five days later, the male coalition entered into the Enclosure-1 housing female Daksha.

As per the official statement, the nature and magnitude of injuries on SA female Daksha’s body prima facie suggests that it sustained the wounds due to violent interaction while mating with the male coalition.

“Violent behaviour by male cheetah coalitions with females during the course of mating is normal, owing to which possibility of intervention by monitoring teams is nearly negligible,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the autopsy of the SA female Daksha’s carcass is being performed by veterinary experts in accordance with established rules and procedures.

Seven decades after the big cat officially went extinct in India’s wilds owing to rampant hunting, eight cheetahs were flown to India from Namibia as part of the world’s first inter-continental cheetah translocation project on September 17, 2022. The same day, which also happened to be PM Narendra Modi’s birthday, the eight Namibian cheetahs were released by him into the KNP.

Five months later on February 18, 2023, 12 cheetahs from South Africa were released at the same national park, taking the total count of the big cat in the KNP to 20.

Last month, MP Forest Department officials had written to the NTCA to shift some of the African cheetahs to alternative sites, already listed in the Cheetah Reintroduction Action Plan.

Cheetahs Exploring Habitat, Nothing To Worry: Project Tiger Head On Straying Incident In MP

Cheetahs released into the wild are exploring their habitat and it’s a very good sign, a senior environment ministry official has said after a spotted feline strayed out of Madhya Pradesh’s Kuno National Park recently.

Oban, one of the eight cheetahs brought from Namibia in September last year, strayed out of the Kuno National Park on April 2.

State forest officials on Friday said it was rescued from a forest area in a neighbouring Shivpuri district on Thursday evening and released into the national park again.”Four cheetahs have been released completely. They are free ranging in the wild. Their movement is natural. We are happy that cheetahs are moving and exploring the areas and based on the exploration they identify their suitable habitat,” Yadav, who is also the head of Project Tiger, said in an interview with PTI.

“It is a very good sign that they are exploring other areas. It’s a natural phenomenon and there is nothing to worry about. But I must tell you that every cheetah which has been released in Kuno is monitored round the clock,” he said.

The senior official said the government has appointed “Cheetah mitras” to familiarise the local populations with the felines and minimise potential conflicts.

Forest officials in Madhya Pradesh have trained around 400 “cheetah mitras” from 51 villages. Those trained include school teachers, village headmen and patwaris.

“And if at all any conflict takes place with small animals like sheep, goats etc, our compensation plan is ready. They (owners) will be adequately compensated,” Yadav said. Under the ambitious Cheetah reintroduction programme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the first batch of eight spotted felines — five females and three males — from Namibia into a quarantine enclosure at Kuno in Madhya Pradesh on his 72nd birthday on September 17 last year. One of the Namibian cheetahs, Sasha, died due to a kidney-related ailment on Monday, forest and wildlife officials in Madhya Pradesh said. Another cheetah, Siyaya, gave birth to four cubs and they were first spotted on March 29.
