Amruta Fadnavis offered help to extortionist bookie, fashionista: Chargesheet

Mumbai (IANS) | Mumbai Police has said that Amruta Fadnavis, wife of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, had offered to help a bookie, Anil Jaisinghani, in the cases registered against him, as she claimed. In the 733-page charge sheet filed before a special ACB court on May 18 – some details of which are now available – the conversation took place days after Amrita filed a case against fashionista Aniksha Jaisinghani and absconding bookie and her father Anil Jaisinghani.

On February 20, the deputy CM’s wife lodged a complaint with the Malabar Hill police station after the sensational case came to the fore with allegations of bribery, extortion, blackmail, threats to Amrita by the Jaisinghani father-daughter duo.

The chargesheet includes some WhatsApp chats exchanged between Amrita and the Jaisinghanis on February 22 – two days after the police complaint was filed.

In one such chat, Amrita assures Anil that if you have been wrongly implicated, I can talk to Devenji (her husband Devendra) and ask him to do justice, but I will not go ahead with those demands. I will not bow down to what Aniksha did to earn illegal money, I know I have done nothing wrong and you and Aniksha are working from day one with the intention of blackmailing me.

Amrita said that most of the videos that Aniksha had threatened to use against her would defame me for some time, but would have no effect once the truth came out.

According to the charge sheet, Amrita told Anil, who replied with several audio messages, “If you are really doing this to get justice, then tell me what you really want from me.”

In another message, Amrita said that even though she was ready to help Anil, it was not because of the videos with which Aniksha was blackmailing her.

She asked Anil what assurance he can give that after withdrawing the cases against him, he will not make further demands, the way Aniksha was pushing him to earn illegal money through the betting racket.

Anil argued that Aniksha did what she thought would help her get out of affairs and that she had recorded the calls and meetings for her own safety and not to harm Amrita, and that it was only information (for betting purposes). on the racket) that she wanted to pass.

In another chat, Amrita agreed to meet Aniksha to understand her matters and also assured to talk to Devendra after she wraps up the Pune (Assembly) bypoll campaign.

Amrita also argued that her relationship with her husband (Devendra) had allegedly turned sour since 2019 and as per the chargesheet, she was apprehensive of divorce after the matter.

Coincidentally, Amrita had blocked Aniksha a day before filing a police complaint and then Anil started communicating with the Deputy Chief Minister’s wife.

Among other things, Anil accused Amrita of accepting dollars from Aneksha at the office of a leading music and film production house and that her daughter had given a bag of Rs 98 lakh to one of her (Amrita’s) employees.

The police chargesheet started probing the matter after Amrita’s complaint on February 20, accusing the father-daughter duo of blackmailing, trying to extort Rs 10 crore, Rs 1 crore to help her father Another attempt to bribe, offered to provide information about cricket bookies etc. to make money.

The Jaisinghanis, including a relative Nirmal, were subsequently arrested and booked under various charges, recording statements of 13 witnesses, call and bank records, properties in Maharashtra and other states and other things.

  • Court dismisses charges against burkha-clad women arrested in jewellery swap case

Court dismisses charges against burkha-clad women arrested in jewellery swap case

A city magistrate court has held that two women who were arrested “merely on suspicion” cannot be considered the accused in a case where burkha-clad individuals were seen swapping gold jewellery with lighter ones in CCTV footage of a jewellery store while posing as customers.

    Lack of Convincing Evidence

The complaint was filed by Deepak Rathod, the owner of the store in Mazgaon, against Sana Shaikh, 39, and her relative Sadaf Shaikh, 40. During his testimony, Rathod expressed his suspicion towards the women, stating that they had been visiting his store for 1.5 years. On October 24, 2020, he claimed that the women had visited the store to view finger rings for men and women.
After discovering that a 9.4-gram ring had been replaced with one weighing 1.4 grams, Rathod reviewed the CCTV footage, which revealed the women exchanging the rings. Additionally, upon rechecking the stocks, he found a cumulative difference in the weight of gold ornaments by 1.76 grams.

Lack of Witness Identification and Investigation Testimony

The court, in its judgment, highlighted the prosecution’s reliance on only two witnesses—the store owner and his employee, with the latter testifying in favor of the owner due to their professional relationship. The court noted that both witnesses failed to positively identify the accused women from the CCTV footage, as the faces of the burkha-clad individuals were covered. Metropolitan Magistrate PI Mokashi stated in the order that the arrest was made “merely on suspicion.”

    Insufficient Evidence and Reasonable Doubt

The court further criticized the prosecution for failing to present the investigating officer as a witness, who could have provided essential insights from the investigation. Consequently, the court ruled that the case had not been proven beyond reasonable doubt.

Maharashtra CM Warns BMC Officials Of Action If Mumbai Faces Waterlogging Issues During Monsoon

Civic officials will face action if Mumbai witnesses waterlogging issues during the upcoming monsoon, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said on Thursday.

He was speaking after inspecting various pre-monsoon works being carried out by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.

Shinde asked the BMC administration to ensure a foolproof system is in place at spots that face waterlogging so that people get relief.

He said civic authorities have already set up holding ponds and floodgates to release rain water into the sea.

“I have instructed officials to dig deep till the hard base to clean city nullahs instead of concentrating on how much silt in metric tonnes has been removed. Broken footpaths must be repaired and roads must be cleaned,” he added.

  • First Executive Meeting Of Shiv Sena (UBT) Scheduled On June 18 In Mumbai

First Executive Meeting Of Shiv Sena (UBT) Scheduled On June 18 In Mumbai

The Shiv Sena (UBT) will hold its first executive meeting since the split in the original Shiv Sena in Mumbai on June 18, a party source said on Wednesday.

Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray will speak at the meeting which will be held in Worli area, he said.

The decision was taken at a meeting of district chiefs of the party here.

Office-bearers from the taluka level upwards from across Maharashtra will participate in the meeting where the political path ahead and organisational strengthening will be discussed, the source said.

Thackeray will also address a gathering on June 19, the original Shiv Sena’s foundation day, at the Shanmukhanand Hall here.

The party will also be organising the `Chavdi Andolan’ throughout the state in the next one month where its workers will apprise people of how the Supreme Court’s recent judgement was in favour of the Thackeray-led group.

The SC, dealing with petitions regarding the split in the Sena in June 2022, held that the then governor should not have asked Thackeray to prove his majority in the Assembly, but also said that the Thackeray government could not be reinstated as he resigned as chief minister before the floor test.

  • Shinde can expand the cabinet

    Shinde can expand the cabinet

Mumbai (IANS) | With the Supreme Court verdict removing uncertainties over the state government, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde may soon take the cabinet reshuffle into his own hands. Party leaders gave this indication on Friday.

This will be crucial ahead of the coming civic polls in 2024, followed by the Lok Sabha and state assembly polls.

After toppling the Maha Vikas Aghadi government led by former CM Uddhav Thackeray, Shinde was sworn in as the chief minister on June 30, 2022, along with Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis of the Bharatiya Janata Party, of the Shiv Sena.

Earlier, Shinde-Fadnavis managed the show for about 40 days before inducting 18 ministers, all cabinet rank, on August 9, 2022.

For nearly 10 months now, Shinde has been heading a 20-member team, with all ministers holding multiple portfolios in a 50:50 ratio between the two colleagues.

This created resentment among leaders of both the Shiv Sena-BJP, as several senior leaders were dropped from the cabinet, besides pressure from over 10 independents and other smaller parties supporting the Shinde-Fadnavis government.

The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly has a total of 288 members, so the maximum number of ministers in the government can be 43 against the current strength of 20.

The government has also faced a lot of criticism for not having any woman as a minister, inadequate regional representation and other issues, which may be rectified in the upcoming reshuffle-cum-expansion.

Apart from a correction on regional or caste imbalances, portfolios of some of the current ministers from both the parties are likely to be reshuffled based on their performance report cards of the last 10 months.

Additionally, the posts of chairpersons of several government-run corporations and institutions, which have been lying vacant for almost a year, may also be filled after the cabinet exercise.

According to indications, the expansion and reshuffle of the Council of Ministers may happen before the monsoon session of the state legislature, which is usually scheduled in July.

Mumbai: Diamond Trader Cheated Of Rs 2.7 Cr In Property Deal; Developers Booked

An offence has been registered against a city-based developer and his son for allegedly duping a diamond trader of Rs 2.7 crore in a property deal, police said on Saturday.

The complainant in the case has claimed that he had paid the father-son duo 2.7 crore for a flat in a redevelopment project in 2016, and he still hasn’t received possession of the property, an official said.

The complainant alleged that he had paid Rs 2.27 crore out of the total Rs 3.1 crore to purchase a 1,876 sq ft apartment in a housing society in Vile Parle and was given an allotment letter, which stated that the property will be handed over to him by December 2018, he said.

In 2019, one of the accused informed the complainant that the said flat had been sold to another buyer and he was offered another flat in the building. However, he did not keep his end of the deal and failed to return the money, the official said.
