Police seeks evidence in ‘MeToo’ case, issues notice to Sruthi Hariharan

Bengaluru: Renowned Kannada actress Shruti Hariharan’s Me Too case has got another twist. Shruti Hariharan had accused South famous actor Arjun Sarja of Me Too. The Cubbon Park Police of Bengaluru, which investigated the matter, submitted a B Report in January 2022 due to lack of suitable witnesses. Shruti again went to court against this report.

Shruti Hariharan, who had challenged the B report submitted by the Cubbon Park police, has now again been given a notice by the police. It has been stated in the notice to give evidence to the police. This notice was issued after hearing the application in the court.

Shruti Hariharan had claimed on the Metoo forum that the actor sexually harassed her during the shooting of Vismaya. As Shruti made allegations, some organizations, actors and artists stood by the actress, while most of the senior artists were lending support in favor of Arjun Sarja. When the complaint was heard against Arjun Sarja, father-in-law, veteran actor Kala Tapaswi Rajesh first filed a complaint in the film chamber. The Karnataka Film Board, which held a press conference after the complaint was filed, also expressed displeasure that Shruti Hariharan should not have gone directly in front of the media. Later, a meeting was held between Shruti Hariharan and Arjun Sarja at the Film Chamber, moderated by Rebel star Ambareesh.

Actor Arjuna Sarja, who intervened while making a statement about Vismaya, said that ‘I did not behave badly during the movie. Also I had not called her to any dinner, hotel, resort, room. Being in the film industry for 35 years, there is not a single black mark on me. He had further claimed that I and my family members have suffered a lot due to the allegations made by Shruti’. As Ambareesh’s negotiations failed, Shruti climbed the court steps. All this happened in 2018.

Based on the complaint filed by Shruti, the police had investigated. The police also visited and inspected the places where sexual harassment was said to have taken place. Due to lack of evidence, the Cubbon Park police submitted a B report on January 2022. The B report submitted by the police was accepted by the 8th ACMM court in Bangalore. Even actress Shruti Hariharan, who had made so many allegations against Arjun Sarja, has not objected to the B report of the police. Thus the Court accepted the B-Report.

‘I was sexually harassed by Arjun Sarja during the shooting of Vismaya. Actress Shruti Hariharan had alleged that she was the only one in the room at UB City and he called me to come and spend some time with him’ the heroine alleged.

In this background, the police who went to interrogate the security guards who were working in UB City at that time were shocked. After that incident, several security guards have not only quit their jobs, but also escaped from the security agency itself. Even some of the staff there did not give any information about the case.

PWD Engineers Served Show Cause Notice Over Poor School Building Work

The PWD has issued a show cause notice to its engineers for the delay in the construction of a school in Rohini after cabinet minister Atishi flagged negligence in the work on the building.

If the engineers fail to provide a satisfactory response within three days, departmental action will be taken against them, a government statement said.

According to the statement, the Public Works Department Minister during a visit to Sarvodaya Vidyalaya in Rohini’s Sector-6 Wednesday morning discovered that the construction work of the new building block was significantly behind schedule.

She found that the tiling, sanitary fittings and other finishing work in the toilet block was incomplete, and the electrical fitting work in classrooms of the new block was also unfinished, the statement added.

Flooring in some rooms was not done properly, the building had paint smudges visible in several places, and the cleaning work was still pending, the minister found, the statement added.

During her visit, she also observed there was a severe shortage of workers at the site.

Taking note of all these shortcomings, Atishi reprimanded the engineers and directed officials to take strict action against all those who were lax in their work.

“The Kejriwal government will not compromise with those who show negligence towards education-related works. We will not tolerate any kind of laxity in the construction of our schools, and anyone found guilty of such actions will not be spared,” she said.

The department has issued notices to the executive engineers- civil and electrical, seeking their response on the issues flagged and why action should not be taken against them.

The PWD Minister has directed the agency to eliminate the discrepancies in 10 days to avoid any stringent action.

Thiruvidanthai temple land issue: HC issues notice to Govt

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court on Wednesday directed the Chengalpattu district Collector and other authorities to respond to a petition seeking a stay on the allocation of Thiruvidanthai temple land to the Irula Snake Catchers Industrial and Cooperative Society and an order to protect the property associated with the temples of the Thiruvidanthai village in the interest of the public and worshipers.

Hearing a Public Interest Litigation plea filed by Andi Rathinam and others from Thiruvidanthai village, the summer vacation bench comprising Justices CV Karthikeyan and SenthilKumar Ramamoorthy directed the Chengalpattu district administration, revenue authorities and the Irula Snake Catchers Industrial and Cooperative Society to respond to the petition within June 13 and adjourned the hearing.

The petitioners claimed that the land belonging to the Varaha temple (Nithya Kalyana temple) was classified as temple land and at the same time, 3 acres and 20 cents of the land belonging to the Ponniyamman temple was wrongly classified as Punjai anatheenam land and therefore a petition has been submitted to the government seeking to change the wrong classification of the land and grant a patta.

Subsequently, Tahsildar of Thiruporur taluk had issued a public notice regarding the allotment of the temple land to the Irula Snake Catchers Industrial and Cooperative Society.

However, the expenses including temple pujas are carried out with the income generated from the land belonging to the temples, the petitioners demanded that the allotment of the temple land to a third party should be prohibited.
