    Over 84% students clear +2 exams in Odisha

    Bhubaneswar: As many as 78,938 of the 92,950 students have cleared the annual higher secondary (Class-XII) science examination in Odisha, results of which were announced by school and mass education minister Sudam Marndi here on Wednesday.

    Students can check their results on the official website of the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) at chseodisha.nic.in and orissaresults.nic.in

    In science stream, out of 93,734 enrolled students, 92,950 students have appeared in the annual Plus-II science examination, of which 78,938 students have cleared the test conducted by the CHSE, he said.

    Of the 90,679 regular students who have appeared in the science stream, 77,468 have passed out. Similarly, 1470 of the 2437 ex-regular students cleared the test.

    The performance of girls is better than the boys in the annual examination. The pass percentage of boys and girls stood at 84.28 and 85.67 per cent, respectively.

    While 358 students have secured more than 90 per cent marks, 291 schools have scored 100 per cent results and two schools have zero results. Nayagarh district has recorded the highest 96.41 per cent result while Gajapati district is at the bottom with a pass percentage of 61.55, the Minister said.

    Moreover, 39,573 students have secured first division, 24,257 in second division and 14,852 got third division in the Class-XII science examination, he said.

    The Odisha government has also declared the Class-XII commerce result. Marndi said that 24,331 students have enrolled in the commerce stream, of which 24,082 students have appeared in the examination and 19,536 students have passed out. The overall pass percentage in the commerce stream stood at 81.12.

    In the commerce stream too the girls outshine then the boys. The pass percentage of boys and girls stood at 79.52 per cent & 83.87 per cent, respectively.

    The Minister informed that 102 students have secured more than 90 per cent marks in commerce. While 7410 students have secured first division, 4543 got second division and 7492 got third division in the exam.

    Nayagarh district has recorded the highest 93.9 per cent result while Boudh district is at the bottom with a pass percentage of 55.55, he said.

    The students can get their marksheets in Digilocker from June 10 onwards. The result of Plus-II arts and vocation courses is likely to be declared on June 8, officials said.

    Odisha: Man hacks wife to death in Balasore, commits suicide

    Balasore: In a shocking incident, a man has allegedly hacked his wife to death and then killed himself in Balasore district of Odisha.

    The incident has come to light on Tuesday. The incident has occurred in Maulanasahi under Dhamnagar police limits, said reports.

    The locals spotted the bodies of the couple inside their house at Maulanasahi.

    The Dhamnagar police immediately reached the spot and started and investigation into the matter.

    From preliminary investigation it has been found that, there was some argument between the husband and wife, in a fit of rage the husband hacked the wife leading to her death on the spot.

    It is suspected that the man allegedly repented after killing his wife and then killed himself due to the guilt.

    The investigation by local police is underway. Further detailed report in this matter is awaited.

    Odisha Vigilance warns bribe takers and facilitators

    Bhubaneswar: Two cases of bribe-taking through various online payment apps has come to the light in Odisha, the Odisha Vigilance has issued a warning.

    The Odisha Vigilance has come across one bribery case on PhonePe and another one where bribe was taken through an unnamed cheque. These cases had been detected yesterday.

    It is noteworthy that, in all the three cases private persons helping government servants by taking bribe money in their PhonePe/Bank accounts have also been arrested/ prosecuted.

    Going forward Odisha Vigilance is committed to take strong action against bribe takers and their facilitators.

    The Odisha vigilance has warned bribe takers and facilitators seeking bribes through digital modes that no one is safe when taking bribe through PhonePe.

    The Vigilance authorities have further clarified that they will follow the digital footprints and catch the culprit and the facilitators.

    This warning has been issued by Odisha Vigilance after a TPCODL official was arrested for taking bribe through PhonePe in Nayapalli of Bhubaneswar on May 29, 2023.

    3rd Rly Line On Haridaspur-Bairi Section In Odisha Completed Before Time

    Bhubaneswar: The Indian Railways has completed Haridaspur-Bairi section of Bhadrak-Nirgundi third line project in Odisha before the deadline.

    According to sources, the work on laying the train tracks of 16.80 km between Haridaspur and Bairi, which was targeted to be completed by last week of June, has been completed before 1st week of May. It is part of Bhadrak-Nirgundi third line project in Howrah-Chennai main line between Bhadrak and Cuttack railway stations under Khurda Road division of East Coast Railway.

    Stating that more than 50% of construction works of the project have been completed, general manager Manoj Kumar Sharma said the officials have been told to focus on speedy completion of works for the critical projects. They have been advised to coordinate with stakeholders including Odisha government officials for early completion of the projects.

    Bhadrak-Nirgundi 3rd line work is expected to boost the economy of the region and provide hassle-free train operations on Howrah-Chennai route. The 92.19-km project was included in 2012-13 and the final sanction was granted in October 2015.

    Works between Jakhapura and Haridaspur, a stretch of 23.53 km, was completed in April 2016, from Kapilas Road to Salegaon, a stretch of 4.30 km was commissioned on May 2019 and from Kapilas Road to Nergundi, a distance of 4.20 km commissioned in October 2022 in phased manner.

    The Bhadrak-Nirgundi 3rd line work has been targeted be completed by 2023-24. While the project’s cost has been estimated to be Rs 1284.39 crore, already Rs 648.68 crore has been spent.

    Bhubaneswar: The Naveen Patnaik Government will complete 4 years of its fifth consecutive term in Odisha tomorrow. Many facelift projects have been taken up so far by the Government in disaster management, woman empowerment as well as in the education and health sectors. Even agriculture and Spots sectors have got new dimensions.

    In the last year of the fifth term, Naveen Patnaik Govt will have to tackle a number of challenges. The Govt will have to focus on the peaceful and successful organization of the world famous Rath Yatra and Snana Yatra.

    Similarly, the Govt is aiming to complete the ambitious Srimandira Heritage Corridor project before the upcoming car festival.

    The second challenge for this Govt will be to do the needful towards disaster management. The MeT department has predicted deficit rainfall in June during the monsoon season.

    About 65 percent people in Odisha depend upon Agriculture. Deficit rainfall will hamper farming. Hence, the Govt is required to focus on this subject as well.

    Another big task is to successfully execute the initial works of the upcoming Arcelor Mittal-Nippon Steel plant project in Kendrapara.

    The State will see General election next year. Keeping it on view new projects are likely to be announced while successful execution of the ongoing projects is also needed to be kept in focus.

    Berhampur: An auto rickshaw driver has shown humanity by returns a bag containing gold jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh to passengers in Odisha’s Berhampur.

    Simanchal Patra, a military personnel of Om Vihar in Gosaninuagaon area, reached Berhampur station by train and then hired the auto rickshaw of one T Simadri to go to house relatives house.

    However, he accidentally left one bag in the three-wheeler after reaching destination. Sometime later Simadri spotted the back inside his vehicle. When inspected, he found gold jewellery along with several important documents.

    Soon, he went back to the address again and returned the bag to Simanchal without falling prey to greedy to own the valuables.

    Speaking about the incident, Simadri said that he felt extremely grateful for getting the opportunity to show some humanitarian action.

    On the other hand, Simanchal and his relatives thanked the auto driver’s act of humanity and were happy for getting the gold, money and gold safely.

    Meanwhile, other auto drivers along with the locals praised Simadri for his honesty.

    Balasore/Nayagarh/Khurda: At least three persons including a minor girl were killed in two separate incidents of elephant attack in Odisha’s Balasore, Nayagarh and Khurda districts.

    In the first incident, an 8-year-old girl died after an elephant entered the house and trampled her to death at Saralia Chitrasul village in Singakhunta area of Balasore district last night.

    The minor girl, who has been identified as Pari, the daughter of Nishikant Deuri, was asleep along with her family members. In the meantime, an elephant barged into their house.

    Soon, all the family members tried to run for life. While everyone managed to escape, Pari came across the jumbo, which trampled her. She was rushed to the Soro hospital in a critical condition. Unfortunately, doctors declared her brought dead.

    Likewise, a man died after a jumbo attacked him on Kamagura-Mayurjhalia road in Ranpur area in Nayagarh district.

    Similarly, one Satyabrata Behara of Natima village in Khurda district died when he was attacked by a pachyderm while he was going to Kamaguru village in a bicycle. He was a labourer and was going for daily work along with two others this morning. While two others managed to escape, Behara was attacked by the elephant and subsequently died on the spot.

    Bhubaneswar: The Higher Education department of Odisha government has reportedly withheld the salary of principals and head clerks of 233 colleges for alleged gross negligence.

    In his letter to all the principals of those colleges, Ramakanta Nayak, the Special Secretary to State government, said, “You have failed to furnish the required information in response to the letters of the Assistant Director even after repeated reminders. It shows gross negligence in discharging government duty on your part along with failure to carry out instructions of authorities of the Higher Education Department.”

    “Therefore, you are directed not to draw and release the salary/remuneration for the month of May 2023 of the defaulting Principal as well as of the head clerk/clerk of your for such negligence till compliance to the orders of Assistant Director, Higher Education is made and clearance given from this end,” it added.

    Forest guard killed in Odisha, ex-sarpanch among 3 arrested

    Baripada: In the case of the case of the forest guard killed in Odisha, the police has arrested three persons including an ex-sarpanch. A number of country guns and other arms were seized from their possession during the raid.

    In a shocking incident on May 22, a forest guard was allegedly killed in firing by a group of poachers in Similipal Tiger Reserve of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district this evening. The deceased forest guard has been identified as Bimal Jena of Naana South Range.

    According sources, a team of forest officials had gone to the Similipal for a patrolling. In the meantime, Bimal saw some poachers and chased them with the aim to nab and seize their firearms.

    However, the poachers fired at Bimal. Hearing his screaming other forest officials rushed to the spot but by the time he he had already died.

    Soon, a team of cops from the Bangriposi police station reached the spot and started a probe into the matter with the help of the forest officials. A search operation also has been launched to trace the poachers.

    Meanwhile, Bimal’s body was being brought to the Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College in Baripada for postmortem.

    Metro railway project work in Odisha to start before 2023 end

    Bhubaneswar: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been called in as a consultant for the Metro railway project work in Odisha.

    The DMRC has been requested to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the metro railway project in Odisha.

    The Housing and Urban Development Minister, Usha Devi on Friday informed about the above progress in the Odisha metro railway work.

    The Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik had given his official approval to the project on Utkal Diwas that is April 1, 2023.

    Earlier on April 25, a city coordination committee meeting was conducted in BDA on Monday. The recently formed City Coordination Committee (CCC) focuses on instilling best practices and integration between various departments.

    City agencies working towards making the state capital far more liveable. The meeting focussed on various preparatory and planning works related to the proposed Metro in Bhubaneswar.
