    Bhubaneswar: Odisha opener Shantanu Mishra has been named in the East Zone squad for the upcoming Duleep Trophy.

    The tournament will be played in Bengaluru from June 28 to July 16.

    The 29-year-old Shantanu had a good run in last season’s Ranji Trophy, scoring an unbeaten double hundred and a century besides three 50s.

    Another Odisha player Suryakant Pradhan, a medium-pacer, has been named as stand-by No. 1 for the Duleep Trophy, according to an Odisha Cricket Association press release.

    The Duleep Trophy will kick off the 2023-24 season. It’s the earliest start to the Indian domestic season, which has never got underway in June.

    With the south-west monsoon having arrived in the country, there is the possibility of rain disrupting some of the early-season matches.

    Rajkanika: Youth arrested for brutally killing a Kingfisher bird and shooting a video of the act and posting it on social media.

    The incident has been reported from Rajkanika block of Kendrapara district in Odisha, said reliable reports on Thursday.

    The young man brutally killed the Kingfisher bird. The video of the act has become very viral on social media.

    The accused has been identified as Guru Dalei. He is said to be a resident of Rajkanika Talchua Pataparia village and works in shrimp farming in Rajkanika area.

    According to reports, Guru killed the bird very brutally because the shrimps were being eaten by birds. It was filmed and shared on social media.

    After seeing the reels, there was a strong reaction on social media. The Rajkanika Range Officer has arrested Guru Dalei and is questioning him.

    Bhubaneswar: Most parts of Odisha are facing a heatwave-like situation since almost a month, on Thursday Bhubaneswar recorded 41°C at 11:30 am.

    The hottest place in Odisha was however Jharsuguda which recorded 42.2 degree Celsius. As many as eight places in Odisha have recorded temperatures of more than 35°C. Hirakud recorded temperatures as high as 41.4°C.

    The Kalabaishakhi influence will decrease in Odisha, said the latest bulletin of the Official Twitter handle of Meteorological Centre situated here in Bhubaneswar.

    The heatwave is expected to continue till a few more days. The regional weather center has predicted that the day temperature will decrease by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius.

    A heatwave alert has been issued for various districts of Odisha, said the latest MeT report. People have bee advised to refrain from stepping outside the house from 11:00am to 3:00pm.

    They have been asked too take necessary precautions in case going out of home within the time is unavoidable.

    The attack reportedly took place at Kapumal village in Jharsuguda district of Odisha. Reliable reports say a woman and her two childreattackedn a boy and a girl were injured in the attack.

    The injured have been rescued by the villagers and admitted to the Jharsuguda district headquarters hospital (DHH)

    Ganjam: In a tragic incident, a mother and her daughter were cut dead on a train line in Ganjam’s Brahmapur.

    The family was heading to Palasa Ichapuram in Andhra Pradesh, when this incident happened.

    The 4-year-old boy has been admitted to the Berhampur MKCG General Hospital in a critical condition.

    The deceased were identified as U. Shravani and her 8-month-old daughter of Chidupou village under Jarda police station of Ganjam district.

    As per reports, U. Shravani was crossing the line with her husband, daughter and son. Meanwhile, a train hit them and the mother and daughter died on the spot.

    Kamakhyanagar: In a shocking incident, a BJD yuva leader has been shot at. The yuva leader has been identified as Kanhu Sahoo. The incident took place at 11 pm on Wednesday in Kamakhyanagar NAC under Dhenkanal district.

    According to reports Kanhu was returning home in his car when the incident took place. A few miscreants shot at him. The bullets hit him on his right hand and thigh.

    He was immediately rushed to the Kamakhyanagar primary healthcare centre (PHC), then to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. Later he was shifted to Apollo hospital Bhubaneswar.

    A few months back Kanhu had been attacked by miscreants and his car was looted. A Bombay was also hurled at his car when it was parked in front of his car.

    The Dhenkanal police have reached the spot and recovered the empty case of the bullets and the shards of glass.

    They have started an investigation into the incident. However the reason behind the attack is yet to be ascertained.

    Family kills neighbour for breaking branch of drumstick tree in Odisha

    Puri: In a shocking incident, the members of a family hacked their neighbour to death for a petty reason. Somehow a branch of their drumstick tree broke when he was parking his vehicle near the house. Agitated with this small fault, the family attacked him with sharp weapons and as a result he was killed.

    The incident took place in the Nua Baligan village under Chandan Police limits in Puri district of Odisha.

    The deceased has been identified as Bhimsen Behera of the village.

    As per reports, two neighboring families had past enmity. For many years there was tension between both the families. On the unfortunate day, Bhimsen Behera drove his vehicle and reached the house.

    When he was parking the vehicle somehow a branch of the drumstick tree of his neighour broke.

    Accordingly, a verbal spat erupted between Behera and the members of his neighbour’s family. Within no time it took an ugly turn and the neighbour’s family members attacked him with sharp weapons. He sustained critical injury on his head due to the attack.

    Hence, his family rushed him to different hospitals one after one, but finally he succumbed to the injury in a private hospital.

    An autopsy of the body was conducted at Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar. The body was then handed over to the family members of the deceased. The entire village is in a state of mourning.

    The locals are discussing that a man was killed merely due to the breaking of a tree branch.

    On the other hand, the local people are also blaming laxity of the police after this incident. It is being said that if the police would have taken proper action during the previous fight between the two, then the life would not have ended.

    Meanwhile, the main accused persons of the incident are absconding. The police are yet to catch the culprits.

    Bhubaneswar: The bodies of those who lost their lives in the Odisha train tragedy will be cremated in Bhubaneswar with complete honours, said reports.

    It is worth mentioning that the bodies of those who were killed in the tragedy was stored in  AIIMS Bhubaneswar.

    According to sources, for this preparations have started at the Bharatpur cemetery in Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha.

    For this purpose, more than 50 quintals of wood have been collected and 12 stoves have been prepared. BMC officials have already visited the crematorium and inspected the condition.

    A Trust which honors the unidentified dead bodies, is also contributing. After the train accident, the bodies of the unclaimed bodies will be cremated.

    However earlier it was decided that, the unclaimed bodies of the people who were killed in the tragic train accident in Odisha’s Balasore on Friday will be preserved for two years. This was informed during a joint press conference of by AIIMS Bhubaneswar Executive Director Dr. Ashutosh Biswas and Khurda Road Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Rinkesh Ray.

    The tragic train accident in Odisha on June 2, 2023 (friday) saw the loss of 289 lives.
