    Odisha: Fraud worth lakhs for job in Utkal University

    Bhubaneswar: Yet another job fraud racket has come to the fore in Bhubaneswar the capital city of Odisha on Wednesday, said reports.

    According to reports, a fraud of lakhs of rupees has taken place in Bhubaneswar on the pretext of giving a job in Utkal University.

    The Chandrashekharpur police station of Bhubaneswar has arrested two people in this regard. The man was allegedly duped by a fraudster.

    The alleged fraudster had promised to give employment to the man as the post of a library  attendant. The complaint was made to the police after the appointment letter sent by the fraudsters looked suspicious.

    According to reliable reports, the two arrested accused persons have been cheating many people before this incident came to light.

    The Chandrashekharpur police has arrested the two accused persons and is questioning them in this regard. Detailed report is awaited in this regard.

    Odisha: Bride cancels marriage as groom’s side demand mutton in Sambalpur

    Sambalpur: Mutton plays an important role in Indian marriages. But canceling marriage due to the demand for mutton is very rare. Such a rare incident has come to the fore from Odisha’s Sambalpur district.

    According to sources, a girl from Sambalpur was getting married to a man from Sundargarh. In the marriage, all types of cuisines including vegetarian and non-vegetarian were made.  The bridegroom’s side reached the marriage venue. After reaching, all of them had their dinner. But around 5 to 6 could not get to eat mutton. The groom’s side demanded the bride’s parents serve them mutton or else they will cancel the marriage. Following this, the bride’s family arranged mutton from a nearby eatery late at night.

    Meanwhile, when the bride got to know about the incident, she immediately canceled the wedding. She said that if her parents and family have gotten embarrassed because of the unavailability of mutton, then she is not interested in getting married to the boy. The groom’s family tried to persuade the bride and apologized for whatever happened but everything went in vain. She disagreed to get married and the groom’s side returned back without the bride.

    Southwest monsoon to reach Odisha between 18th-21st June

    Bhubaneswar: The regional center of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that the temperature of Odisha has turned favorable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon over some more parts of south Peninsular & East India and adjoining areas during 18th-21st June.

    On Wednesday, at 11.30 am Jharsuguda recorded the highest temperature, that is 39.4 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Sambalpur recorded 38.2 degrees, Hirakud 37.2 degrees, Keonjhar 35.6 degrees, Chandabali 35 degrees, Balasore 33.6 degrees, Gopalpur 33.2 degrees, and Puri recorded 31.8 degrees.

    The capital city of Odisha, Bhubaneswar recorded 33.2 degrees Celsius at 11.30 am.

    Sambalpur recorded a night temperature of 31.6 degrees which is 6.4 degrees above normal, while Hirakud recorded 5 degrees and Titlagarh 6.2 degrees above normal.

    On the other hand, the extremely severe cyclonic storm Biparjoy is expected to make landfall in Gujarat on Thursday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for rainfall for the Saurashtra-Kutch regions until Friday and advised fishermen not to venture to the sea.

    Odisha: Wagons of good train gets detached near Keshinga

    Kalahandi: In a shocking incident, a goods train’s wagons parted away from its engine near Keshinga Railway station in Odisha’s Kalahandi district. The major accident was averted because of the presence of mind of the loco pilot as he stopped the train within 30 meters of the wagons getting detached.

    According to the sources, several wagons of the goods train carrying aluminum got separated from the middle when the train was crossing the station. The loco pilots noticed the detachment of the wagons and immediately halted the train. Later, the wagons were attached. The train was en route to Angul from Damanjodi.

    On being informed, the railway department officials reached the spot and started to investigate the matter.

    Odisha: Crocodile drags minor boy in Bramhani river near Nimpur; Mutilated body recovered

    Cuttack: In a shocking incident, a crocodile dragged away a minor boy into the Bramhani River near Nimpur in Pattamundai of Odisha’s Cuttack district.

    The deceased has been identified as Asutosh Acharya, a 10-year-old boy from Nimpur.

    According to sources, he went near the Bramhani River on Wednesday morning for the toilet. During his time, a crocodile dragged him from the back side into the river. He went missing in the river earlier. However, the locals fished out his mutilated body from the river later.

    A pale of gloom has spread over the village following such a tragic incident.

    Earlier,  a crocodile was beaten to death by villagers in Bihar’s Vaishali on Tuesday after the reptile allegedly killed a 14-year-old boy on the banks of the River Ganges at the district’s Khalsa Ghat.

    Raja festival is unique to Odisha. The festival celebrates the spirit of womanhood and mensuration. It is a three-day long celebration. This is a festival where unmarried girls wear new dresses, play cards, apply henna on hands, alta on feet and have fun. A swing is generally a major attraction of the festival.

    Reportedly, the markets are crowded than usual in view of the festival, the prices of clothes and accessories have also sky rocketed.  Adding to it, many organizations are celebrating the festival in public places. Many malls and restaurants are hosting programs for the celebration of Raja festival.

    The very first day of this three day long festival is termed as ‘Pahili Raja’ which is also considered to be the last day of the month Jestha (summers). The second day is named as ‘Raja Sankranti’ which is the first day of the month Asadha(monsoons). The concluding day is named in local dialect as ‘Bhuin Dahana’ popularly known as ‘Sesa Raja’ (last day).

    This is one of the most famous festivals in Odisha that pays tribute to the menstruation cycle. It is said that the Vasumati goddess got her mensuration during this time. It is believed that mother earth menstruates during these three days and a ceremonial bath takes place on the fourth day.

    The festival is also about food especially ‘Poda Pitha’. The aroma and taste of this dish happens to be Lord Jagannath’s favorite and is savored by him each time after having the meal. Other than the poda pitha delicacies like Arisa pitha, Mutton curry and Raja Pana makes it one of the most special festival in every Odia household.

    However, in some parts of the regions the festival  actually continues for a period of four days asthe fourth day termed as ‘Basumata Puja’ or ‘Basumata Snana’ (Bathing & praying of mother earth).

    Balangir: In a tragic incident, five persons including two minors were killed and two others were critically injured after the car they were traveling in collided with a truck in Odisha’s Balangir district. The accident occurred on National Highway No. 26 near the Chuinbandha area of the district.

    The deceased were identified as Atmaj, Ipsita, Srinika Simantini, Diptiranjan, and Riya of Balangir. While the injured were identified as Rashmita and Aarti Naik.

    According to sources, the seven were returning to Balangir after attending a marriage party in Aagalpur block. On their way to home, the car they were traveling in collided with the truck parked at the roadside. The locals rescued them and immediately rushed all of them to the hospital. However, the doctor declared five of them brought dead. The other two injured are in critical condition.

    On being informed, police reached the hospital and started to probe into the matter.

    Bhubaneswar (IANS) | Five people of a family, including two children, died in a tragic road accident in Odisha’s Balangir district. The police gave this information on Wednesday. According to the police, the accident happened on Sambalpur-Balangir National Highway-26 near Chuinbancha crossing late on Tuesday night. Five people died on the spot, while two are seriously injured. He has been admitted to Burla Medical College.

    Atmaj Nayak of Ramjipada in Balangir was returning home in a car along with six other members of his family after attending a marriage function in Agalpur area of the district.

    On the way, his car went out of control and rammed into a truck parked on the roadside.

    The deceased have been identified as Atmaj Nayak (25), his sister Ipsita Sai (27), his daughter Riya (6), Atmaj’s uncle Diptiranjan Sai (35) and Sai’s daughter Anvi (6).

    After getting the information, the Balangir police reached the accident spot and took the dead bodies into custody and sent them for postmortem.

    Nayak’s mother Aarti (47) and Diptiranjan Sai’s wife Rasmita (29) were seriously injured in the accident. He is undergoing treatment at Vimsar in Burla.

    Tata Steel accident: 16 injured admitted to hospital

    Bhubaneswar (IANS) | Two people, who suffered serious burn injuries after a steam pipe burst at Tata Steel’s Meramandali plant in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district, are undergoing intensive treatment. Of the 18 victims admitted to a private hospital in Cuttack, two are in intensive care under the supervision of medical professionals, including a team from Tata Steel, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.

    It added that the condition of the others is stable and they continue to receive high-quality care.

    Another person, who was initially admitted at the scene for causing the stampede, is now in good health and is expected to be discharged soon.

    According to Tata Steel officials, the accident took place around 1 pm on Tuesday during an inspection at the blast furnace power plant of Tata Steel Meramandali in Dhenkanal.

    The injured persons were admitted to the Occupational Health Center inside the Tata Steel Plant and then to a private hospital in Cuttack for treatment.

    Meanwhile, the state government and the company have launched an inquiry into the incident.

    Odisha Sports Minister Felicitates Athletes For Asian U20 Athletics Championship Performance

    Bhubaneswar: Athletes from Odisha have dazzled yet again on the global stage with Md Reyan Basha and Dondapati Jayaram securing the bronze in the 4x100m Relay at the 20th Asian U20 Athletics Championship in Yecheon, South Korea.

    Sports and Youth Services Minister Tusharkanti Behera on Tuesday felicitated the champions with cash award of Rs 1,00,000 each to laud their efforts. Both athletes, hailing from Odisha, are products of the Odisha Reliance High Performance Centre of Athletics in Bhubaneswar.

    The Minister expressed his delight on Odisha athletes shining bright at the international podiums and bringing laurels for the state. He wished the two medallists the very best and assured to extend all support in their onward sporting journey.

    The Odisha model for sports emphasises the importance of recognising athletes for their performance and incentivising them with cash awards. On his achievement and the recognition, he received from the Odisha government, Dondapati Jayaram expressed his gratitude, and said, “This is a special achievement for us. It is an honour to be recognised and felicitated by the government. It is a proud moment for us, and we are inspired to do more. We have been training very hard. We have had access to great coaches and great facilities that have really helped us focus on our performance.”

    The sensational victory augurs well for the athletes as they prepare for the World Junior Athletic Championship next year.

    Speaking on their achievement, Martin Owens, head coach of the Odisha Reliance Foundation Athletics HPC said, “I am proud of Reyan and Jayaram. They are great example of the work that Odisha and Reliance are doing in developing youth athletics for India.”

    He further reiterated the importance of the talent identification and scouting program that has been deployed by the High-Performance Centre. He said, “Both these athletes are immensely talented, and we expect great things from them, but credit must be given to our scouting program that has found ways to consistently identify talent here in Odisha and then go on to nurture these promising athletes with the right guidance”
