    Bus collides head-on with truck in Rourkela; 10 injured

    Rourkela: In a tragic incident, nearly 10 people were critically injured after the bus they were traveling in collided with a truck in Odisha’s Rourkela. The accident took place near Birmitrapur Rani Sati temple in Jharsuguda district.

    According to sources, the passenger bus was on its way to Jharsuguda from Jharkhand. The passenger bus named Rani collided with a cargo truck near Sati mandir. Nearly 10 passengers were critically injured in the accident.

    The locals spotted the accident. They immediately rushed the injured to the nearby hospital and informed the police about the matter. The injured have been admitted to Birmitrapur Health Centre.

    On being informed, police reached the spot, seized the vehicles, and started to probe into the matter.

    Land dispute turns ugly as miscreants open fires on Youth’s house in Sundargarh

    Sundargarh: A group of miscreants opened fire on a youth’s house due to a land dispute in Odisha’s Sundargarh district. The incident took place near a private English medium school under Bisra police limits of the district.

    The youth has been identified as Vicky Singh, a resident of Bisra village of Sundargarh.

    According to sources, the miscreants opened fire three to four times on Vicky’s house. The youth narrowly escapes unhurt from the firing.

    Following the incident, Vicky Singh’s family lodged a written complaint with the Bishra police station. They have also mentioned in the complaint that the miscreants threatened to shoot them if they don’t resolute the dispute.

    Based on the complaint, police reached the spot and initiated a probe into the matter. The cops have also started a manhunt for the miscreants.

    Odisha government increased DA of employees by 4 percent

    Bhubaneswar (IANS) | The Odisha government has announced a 4 per cent hike in the Dearness Allowance (DA) for its employees and pensioners. This will be applicable from January 1. With the latest hike, the DA of government employees has increased from 38 per cent to 42 per cent. Employees will get the increased DA in cash in the salary of the current month (June).

    The government has also increased the dearness relief to pensioners by 4 per cent. They will also get enhanced relief in the current month’s pension.

    The move will benefit all regular employees and pensioners, who number 7.5 lakh in the state.

    Amid Heatwave, Water Supply Stopped To Odisha’s Sundargarh Town

    Sundargarh: Piling up woes on the people of Odisha’s Sundargarh town, water supply has been since morning on Monday amid extreme heatwave condition.

    According to sources, the entire town, which is supplied water from Ib river, has been left high and dry after the river completely dried up. Around 60% of its population depend on the tap water supplied from the river, while the rest source it from wells and deep borewells.

    The Water Resources department had laid the pipes for connecting all households with water supply at a cost of Rs 40 crore 2 years back. But neither the department nor the Water Corporation of Odisha (WATCO) took any step to tap a perennial source, said the sources.

    Now that the Ib river, which is not a perennial river, has dried up due to extreme heat, the department and the WATCO are left with no source to supply to the people.

    Sundargarh town in western Odisha, located close to industrial city Rourkela, recorded maximum temperature of 43 degree Celsius on Sunday. In fact, the entire western Odisha has been reeling under extreme heatwave for the last few days.

    Crime Branch Begins Probe Into Death Of School Student In Odisha’s Gajapati Dist

    Bhubaneswar: The Crime Branch of Odisha Police has started investigation into the death of a school student in Odisha’s Gajapati district.

    A five-member team of the Crime Branch on Monday visited the house of Soudamini Raita, the Class IX student of Betaguda-based Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Paralakhemundi of the district.

    They questioned the family members to ascertain the cause of her death. Soudamini was found hanging in her school under mysterious circumstances in February.

    While the police could not confirm the cause of the ‘suicide’, Soudamini’s family members suspected foul play and alleged that she was murdered.

    Following her death, Soudamini’s family had told the media that they were not convinced that she would take the extreme step as there was no reason for it. They had demanded an impartial probe into the incident.

    Bhubaneswar: Odisha-born Santanu Mishra was conferred IBM’s “Sustainability Leader of the Year” award during the UBS Forum Sustainability Summit & Awards 2023 in Mumbai recently for his pioneering the concept of Social Venture Philanthropy (SVP) in the development sector.

    Social Venture Philanthropy (SVP) is an adaptation of successful business model of venture capital for the development sector, linking social investment strategies to charitable giving with a focus on achieving scalability and sustainability. The idea behind amalgamation of social venture philanthropy was to bridge the gap between corporate or funders who have the required resources to make large-scale social investment.

    Speaking after receiving the award, Santanu said, “I have a firm conviction in the potential of local community-based organisations (CBOs) in bringing change at the grassroots level. Hundreds of social entrepreneurs are born every year in different corners of the country, but they need the right guidance to survive, succeed and serve the nation.”

    A management strategist and a legal consultant by profession, a company secretary by qualification, and an entrepreneur by passion, Santanu completed his management education from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A).

    He quit his full-time corporate career in 2005 and has been spearheading Smile Foundation as its Executive Trustee. A pioneer in applying many successful management practices in the social sector, Santanu’s contribution can also be described as a convergence of good governance, championing entrepreneurial spirit at the grassroots, leveraging emerging technologies, encouraging innovation, creating a high impact model, and imbibing the philosophy of real work and real change.

    In order to complement the working model of social venture philanthropy, Santanu has initiated a special programme called Empowering Grassroots. The mission is to build capacities of genuine grassroots initiatives through extensive workshops and training programmes by engaging Indian and international experts.

    Social entrepreneurs leading community-based organisations from across India are trained in subjects such as operations, organisational building, communication, mobilisation and fundraising, and are further assisted in applying their learning in their day-to-day operations on the ground.

    Santanu has been directly engaging with many of these grassroots social entrepreneurs, mentoring and advising them to excel in their endeavours. Till date, Smile Foundation has partnered with and built capacities of more than 1,000 grassroots organisations.

    Nuapada: The banking assistant of Bhawanipatna Central Cooperative Bank is under Odisha vigilance scanner over alleged allegation of acquisition of disproportionate assets.

    The accused has been identified as Pradeep Kumar Chandrakar. He is the banking assistant of Bhawanipatna Central Cooperative Bank of Koma Branch in Odisha’s Nuapada district.According to sources, simultaneous house searches are being conducted by Odisha Vigilance led by  three DSPs, 3 Inspectors and other staffs. The raid is being conducted on the strength of search warrants issued by Special Judge,Vigilance, Bhawanipatna. The searches are being conducted at the following four places.1.Residential double storyed house of Chandrakar situated at village Beltukuri, Dist- Nuapada.

    2.Another Double storyed building situated over plinth area of approx 3000 Sq.ft at Beltukuri, Dist- Nuapada.

    3.One under construction House over plinth area of approx. 3000 Sq.Ft. at Beltukuri, Dist- Nuapada.

    4.Office room of Pradeep Kumar Chandrakar at Bhawanipatna Central Cooperative Bank, Komna.

    Odisha: 6 labourers critical after coming in contact with live wire in Jaleswar

    Balasore: In a shocking incident, six labourers were critically injured after coming in contact with live wire while working in Odisha’s Balasore district. The incident has come to the fore from Jaleswar of the district.

    According to sources, the six labourers were working near the Baliapal bus stand in Jaleswar, when they suddenly came in contact with live wire. Due to electrocution, the four of them were critically injured.

    Locals present on the spot, rescued them and immediately rushed them to the nearby hospital, said reliable reports. The condition of the victims of the electrocution  is said to be critical.

    On being informed, police and officials of electricity department also reached the spot and started to probe into the matter.

    CM Naveen Patnaik approves Rs. 183.81 Crores for 42 Urban Local Bodies of 10 Districts

    Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday approved Rs. 183.81 Cr in the second phase in favour of 42 Urban Local Bodies covering 10 Districts of Southern RDC Division under the State funded flagship Scheme MUKTA for the financial Year 2023-24. The Districts include Ganjam, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Kandhamal & Boudh.

    All these 42 ULBs have developed ward-wise feasible Annual Action Plans under MUKTA through a participatory process involving local citizens and key Stakeholders. All these projects are demand driven, technically feasible and environmentally sustainable projects. These Action Plans have been screened at the Dept. level before approval of HCM. All these approved projects to be taken up under MUKTA will be executed directly by Mission Shakti Groups as Implementing Agency.

    It may be mentioned here that on the direction of chief minister Sri Naveen patnaik ,5T Secretary Sri VK Pandian discussed with public representatives of 42 ULBs of the above 10 districts on 9th june ,regarding implementation of the project.

    The Basket of Projects approved under MUKTA are climate resilient work, which includes creation of Civic Amenities (Mini Park, Open Air Gym, Child play station, Playground, Walking track, Loo, Vending Zones), Open Space Development, Water Body Development, Construction of Multi-purpose Community Centers, Wall Painting, City beautification and other Labour-oriented works.

    “Mukhya Mantri Karma Tatpara Abhiyan” (MUKTA) was launched by Hon’ble CM on 18th April 2020 with a mission to create rapid, immediate and mass employment opportunities for urban poor, informal and migrant labourers, rendered unemployed and vulnerable in the face of Covid-19 infused crisis, while addressing the needs of creation of climate resilient, cost-effective sustainable and replicable community assets by implementing labor-intensive public works across 115 Urban Local Bodies.

    MUKTA adopts a community driven, participatory and bottom-up approach ensuring transparency and accountability during entire stage of project implementation. MUKTA is a community driven scheme tailor made for Community Based Organisations (CBO) such as Women Self Help Groups (SHG) and Slum Dwellers Associations (SDA) to take the center stage.

    In the 3rd phase, 36 ULBs of remaining 10 Districts of Northern RDC Division will be covered.

    Girl died, 4 critical due to electrocution in Paradip

    Paradip: In a tragic incident, a girl died while four other including her parents were critically injured due to electrocution in Paradip. The incident has come to the fore from Balsisahi under Kujang police limts of Odisha’s Jagatsingpur district.

    The deceased has been identified as Ranu Behera, a resident of Balisahi. Ranu’s father, mother, elder brother and a neighbour were critically injured due the electrocution.

    Following the incident, Ranu died on the spot, while the injured were immediately rushed to the nearby hospital. Later, one among the four was shifted to Jagatsinghur District Headquarter Hospital, as his condition deteriorated.

    It is suspected that the electrocution happened due to short-circuit.

    Earlier, six labourers were critically injured after coming in contact with live wire while working in Odisha’s Balasore district.

    According to sources, the six labourers were working near the Baliapal bus stand in Jaleswar, when they suddenly came in contact with live wire. Due to electrocution, the four of them were critically injured.
