    Fire reported in coal-laden goods train at Radhakishorepur Station in Cuttack

    Athagarh: A goods train carrying coal reportedly caught fire at Radhskishorepur station in Athagarh of Cuttack district on Saturday late night.

    According to reports, fire was reported in one of the wagons of coal-laden goods train. Some onlookers spotted the fire and informed the fire department regarding the incident.

    The reason of fire is yet to be ascertained. The Athagarh fire tenders rushed to the spot and have doused the flame.

    Bhubaneswar police resumes ‘Safe City Drive’; Strict checking underway

    Bhubaneswar: Massive night blocking with enforcement activities was conducted in the Capital city of Bhubaneswar, Odisha on Saturday late at night.

    The checking was conducted in areas including Jharpada Golei, Laxmisagar, Kalapana Square, Ravi Talkies on Cuttack Road, Rupali Square, Ram mandir square, Hospital Square, Palaspali Square, Jagamara, Stewart Square, Nalco Square, Damana, Patia and Raghunathpur on Nandankanan road. The checking was conducted almost in every part of the capital city.

    According to sources, three platoons of police force and officers were engaged in the checking. Reportedly, the checking was conducted following the rise of antisocial and criminal activities in Bhubaneswar.

    While patrolling, the police teams were seen keeping a close vigil on the den of the anti-social elements and speed biking on the road.

    The checking was conducted to put a check on the movement of antisocial, criminals, and the transportation of contraband articles. All these enforcement drives and checking were conducted under SAFE CITY DRIVE BHUBANESWAR.

    Man beats wife to death in Odisha’s Soro

    Soro: A man beat his wife to death over a family dispute in Soro of Odisha’s Balasore district. The incident has come to the fore from Paikapada village of Fatehpur panchayat under the Upada police limits of the district.

    The deceased was identified as Sarmila Singh, while the accused husband has been identified as Ramchandra Singh.

    According to sources, Ramchandra, a driver, returned home at 5 pm on Saturday after which, he and his wife had an argument. As the argument turned violent, Ramchandra sent their sons out of the house. In a fit of rage, he took a stick and started beating Sarmila. Due to getting hit on the head, Sarmila died on the spot.

    The locals got to know the incident and immediately informed the police about it.

    On being informed, police reached the spot, recovered the body, and sent it for autopsy. The cops also detained Ramchandra and initiated an investigation into the matter.

    Odisha train accident: Railway Board orders double-locking of signalling assets

    New Delhi: The Indian Railway Board on Saturday ordered a double-locking arrangement for all its signalling assets after the Odisha train accident. The Board also issued directions to bolster the protocol for the commencement of train movement after maintenance work.

    The Railway Board has ordered a double-locking arrangement for all relay rooms with train controlling mechanisms, relay huts housing signalling and telecommunications equipment of level-crossings, and point and track circuit signals to keep a check on accidents.

    The order however indicated that the access to the relay room was key to the signalling interference that caused the Coromandel train accident.

    “With enough evidence to show that some human interference was involved in the interlocking system that caused the deadly accident, it is now important for us to make it tamper-proof,” said a senior railways official.

    “This double locking will ensure that no one can access these locations in isolation,” he added.

    This is the third such order on signalling issued by the Railway Board since the accident is being probed by the CBI.

    Odisha train tragedy: Man meets son in Bhubaneswar after 1 week!

    Bhubaneswar: Today a man met his son, his son was missing since the tragic Odisha train accident which took place on June 2, 2023 (Friday)

    It is worth mentioning that the boy was injured in the triple train accident in Bananaga of Balasore in Odosha. The son Dulal Majumdar was referred from Balasore and was admitted with traumatic brain injury with frontal contusion and subdural Hematoma.

    He was initially conscious but confused. The patient was kept under close observation with medications. However as there was clinical deterioration and increase in brain swelling and masse effect on repeat scan , patient was taken for surgery.

    Decompressive craniectomy and Hematoma evacuation was done. The patient improved following surgery and was weaned off from ventilator and extubated. Dulal Majumdar is now stable and shifted to the ward and is able to speak and now recognised his father who has been reunited with him today.

    The hospital informed that all treatment was free of cost and patient is responding well to treatment. Father of Subash from Assam today met his missing son after the unfortunate Balasore Train Tragedy.

    AIl India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhubaneswar officials were in regular communication with his relatives so that they could come to Bhubaneswar and meet him.

    Bhubaneswar: There is no power supply disruption in the state of Odisha, said the Odisha Energy Minister Pratap Dev on Saturday.

    He however further added that there are no power cuts in the entire state of Odisha.

    The Minister however further added that, in case of wind the power supply shall be cut off. It is worth mentioning that the Kalbaisakhi experienced in Bhubaneswar on June 8, 2023 had left a trail of devastation.

    Most of Bhubaneswar was thrown into darkness till late at night. Earlier on June 9, 2023 Odisha Chief Secretary Pradeep Jena expressed his annoyance over the slow restoration of power supply in Bhubaneswar city after the kalabaisakhi havoc.

    The Chief Secretary even went on to say that if the restoration work is slow in case of kalabaisakhi, what would be the situation if there is a cyclone. “TPCentralOdisha restoration in Bhubaneswar is extremely slow. Pl pull up and restore fast. If response to kalabaisakhi can be slow, just imagine what would happen in eventual cyclone situations? Public don’t appreciate such slow action. Request immediate action,” he said in a Twitter post.

    Powers supply in different parts of the State Capital City including Saheed Nagar, Unit-2, Acharya Vihar, VSS Nagar areas was disrupted after the power cables snapped following heavy rain accompanied by strong wind yesterday evening.

    As a welcome relief for the people of Odisha, there shall be no power cut this year said the Energy Minister Pratap Deb on April 12, 2023.

    Earlier today, the Energy Minister promised that there will be no power outage throughout Odisha. He further clarified that, electricity will be supplied as per the demand of the people.

    Furthermore in addition to there being no power cut in Odisha, the electricity tariff will remain unchanged for the year 2023-24 informed the OERC.

    Convict found dead in Malkangiri of Odisha

    Malkangiri: A murder convict has been found hanging in the toilet of the sub-jail in Malkangiri district of Odisha on Saturday.

    The deceased has been identified as Bidhan Mirdha. He hailed from MPV-37 village in the Malkangiri district of Odisha.

    The body has been seized by the police and sent for postmortem. The reason of the suicide is however yet to be ascertained.

    An under trial (UT) prisoner has been found dead in Puri Jail under mysterious circumstances on Monday, that is January 30, 2023.

    The deceased has been identified as Bishwanath Baliyarsingh. He had been arrested in a murder case and was in jail.

    Today, he was admitted to Puri District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) due to chest pain while meditating at the meditation center in the jail premises.

    He succumbed on being admitted.

    Soro: In a tragic incident, a mother and son duo allegedly lost their lives due to electric shock in Soro under Balasore district in Odisha said reports on Saturday.

    The incident took place under Khaira limits in Kantapada Nahul village.

    The mother died on the spot whereas, the son was in a critical condition and was rushed to the nearby hospital. He was admitted to the medical center in a critical condition but there he breathed his last while under going treatment.

    Reports say that the duo were in the garden and somehow came in contact with a live wire while watering the plants. The woman died on the spot.

    Union Home Minister Amit Shah to visit Odisha on June 17, 2023

    Bhubaneswar: The Union Home Minister Amit Shah is slated to visit Odisha on June 17, 2023, said reliable reports on Saturday.

    The Union Minister is likely to visit Dhenkanal to participate in Maha Janasampark Yatra to be held by BJP in the district ahead of the upcoming General elections.

    The venue and other details of the programme will be shared later, informed the state party president Manmohan Samal. Samal said adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also likely to visit Odisha soon.

    The veteran BJP leader is coming to the state for the Maha Sampark campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 31 to mark completion of nine years of BJP government at Centre.

    Union Ministers Giriraj Singh, Arjun Munda, Dharmendra Pradhan and Ashwini Vaishnaw are also scheduled to attend various programmes across the state.

    The Union ministers and senior BJP leaders will hold press conferences and brief about the achievements of PM Modi since 2014. They will also interact with the media and people of the state and give a presentation based on all the achievements of the BJP-led government at the Centre.

    Sea condition are likely to be rough over northeast Bay of Bengal on 10th June said the latest bulletin of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

    Warning to the fishermen venturing into the sea:

    The fishermen have been advised by the MeT Department not to venture into northeast Bay of Bengal on 10th June, 2023.

    The systems are under continuous surveillance by the IMD and the next update will be issued today that is on the 10th June, 2023.
