    Bahanaga High School to be reconstructed under 5T Model

    Balasore: The Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik has ordered to reconstruct the Bahanaga High School under the 5T model. He has also asked to make the school Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya (OAV).

    The demolition of the Bahanaga high school in Balasore where bodies of the Odisha train tragedy victims were kept as a transit place is underway. The high school is being demolished in the presence of the Tehsildar and police.

    The Bahanga school near the accident site was turned into a mortuary. The body of the deceased was kept in the school. This step has been taken so that the children do not get scared after the opening of the school.

    In this context, under the instructions of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Chief Secretary Pradeep Jena, 5T chief V.K. Pandian, School Public Education Secretary S. Aswasthi interacted with Balasore district Collector, school management committee members, panchayat representatives, teachers, and students through video conferencing.

    After taking everyone’s view on demolishing the high school, the decision was taken.

    It is worth mentioning that, the schools in Odisha are now closed for the summer vacation. They are scheduled to reopen on June 19, 2023, after Raja Sankranti. The students and teachers are scared to return to school, and that’s why the decision was taken.

    Balasore: The foul smell from the area that was emanating from the site of the Odisha train accident was from rotten eggs.

    According to a team that had gone to the site the compartment was emanating foul smell due to rotten eggs, not because of human body.

    Three tractors of rotten eggs were retrieved from the parcel van of the train said reliable reports. The foul smell is gone now, informed Aditya Kumar Chaudhary, CPRO, South Eastern Railway. 

    The people living near the Odisha train accident site are deeply traumatized said reports on June 7 (Wednesday). The scars of the accident are yet to heal.

    There seemed to be a new reason for trouble for the local people as the foul smell emanating from the site of the accident was making it difficult for them to live there.

    According to the locals, two coaches of the Yesvantpur Howrah Express still remain upturned at the accident spot and the foul smell emanating from them is unbearable.

    The locals had further added that the stench from the coaches started after a spell of rain was experienced in Bahanaga, the station where the train crash took place.

    The locals had requested the Government and the railway authorities to pick up and take away the coaches as early as possible. The locals say the smell is unbearable. It is difficult for them to live in their house or to eat food.

    The locals had further threatened that if the foul smell from accident site continues and the administration fails to take any remedial measures, they will be forced to resort to protests and a strike.

    It is worth mentioning that on the ill-fated evening of June 2, 2023 (Friday) three trains were involved in a gut-wrenching crash. In the tragic and one of the worst-ever train accident as many as 288 people died and at least 1000 others were injured.

    Bhubaneswar: Taking a lesson from the recent deadly train accident in Odisha, which claimed over 280 lives and left over 1100 people injured, the Railway Board has reportedly issued a detailed instruction on safety of the railway track.

    Rooo Narayan Sunkar, the Member (Infrastructure) Railway Board, wrote a letter to the General Managers for regular maintenance of infrastructure in order to ensure safety and reliability of assets.

    He said that the time-tested system for maintenance of track already exists on the railways. However, to emphasize safety during day-to-day working and while carrying out special renewal works, following instructions are reiterated for strict compliance:

    Field officials who have been provided for maintenance activities must be utilized mainly for maintenance activities. Also, it must be ensured that they spend maximum time on maintenance and works sites.
    JEs/SSEs are having knowledge about the shortcomings and the strengths of the assets under their jurisdiction. Sectional DENs and ADENs should speak to them and make out a comprehensive list of deficiencies with inputs from TMS and such interactions, with target dates required to improve safety. Each Zonal Railways shod have such division-wise list with PCE for monitoring the compliance. Summary of the items requiring compliance and action taken should also be advised to Railway Board, on weekly basis.
    PHODs/HODs to carry out inspection covering all aspects of maintenance/worksite and guide JEs/SSEs for correct and sate execution of the work. They should also facilitate the field officials by ensuring availability of material, manpower and other resources.
    Pending items as a result of joint point crossings inspection be complied in a time bound manner by arranging required material and traffic block. Team of operating, engineering and S&T officers be made to monitor the progress on daily basis till pending deficiencies are liquidated.
    Focus of inspection should not only be to find out deficiencies but also to get these complied by helping/ guiding the field staff.
    JEs/SSEs should be counseled and guided for not adopting any shortcuts while carrying out the work. It is the responsibility of Divisional and HQ officers to make JEs/SSEs comfortable in their working by providing all requisite assistance.
    It is essential that adequate duration of traffic block is allowed as per demand. All necessary blocks required for maintenance and rectification of deficiencies should be made available by GMs, and DRMs on the Railways/Divisions. Any refusal must bear the express approval of DRM. It shall be ensured that the works required to be done under traffic block, as stipulated in IRPWM, mist be done under traffic block. Dip lorry, rail dolly works should be done with proper moving protection only.
    The corridor blocks are sacrosanct and shall not require any separate approval. In addition, the works requiring additional duration of blocks/timing of block should be carried by planning mega blocks.
    Integrated block planning should be made on weekly basis and DRMs should ensure that such block plan is followed on daily basis. the exception report shall be reviewed by GM on weekly basis and comprehensive summary shall be advised to Railway Board.
    Senior officers are required to check the preparedness of works to be carried out in blocks and ensure availability of resources on the day of block working.
    All worksites should be protected with necessary caution board, safety boards, TP, TG, banner flag and hand signal etc. Gauge face greasing at work site be ensured.
    Necessary protocols while carrying out the work of deep screening, DS, TRR/CTR works to be followed so as to avoid any unsafe conditions senior officers of HQ should counsel all supervisory staff for this.
    Works of doubling, tripling etc. being executed by project organizations should be regularly inspected by Open Line officials to ensure safe working and prevent infringement to track. While doing so, they should help and guide the project officials and constrictor staff.
    The vulnerable locations such as points and crossings, SEJ, Bridges approaches of Girder Bridges require regular inspection and maintenance. Corrective action should immediately be taken on the deficiencies observed.
    Senior officials should spend time in the field, carry out checks and guide JEs/SSEs to ensure proper USFD testing.
    Monsoon precautions including cutting of vulnerable trees, boulder falling, cleaning of catch water/ side drains, preparedness of monsoon patrolling, placements of stationery watchmen at vulnerable locations should be also be undertaken by the railways. Monsoon reserves should also be made available.
    Utilization of track machines for maintenance of tracks should be maximized by enhancing requisite safety blocks.

    Cuttack: The Commercial Tax (CT) and Goods and Service Tax (GST) Enforcement team is conducting a raid at a private company in the Manguli area of Odisha’s Cuttack district on Friday.

    The private company has been identified as Anand Cargo Pvt Ltd, a transport company at Manguli Chakk of the district.

    The raid is being conducted over suspicion of non-filing of Goods and Service tax on the stated annual turnover ratio. Nearly 20 officials are engaged in the raid.

    Sources said that the enforcement team has reportedly seized various important documents of the agency and is verifying them to ascertain whether the company avoided paying the GST.

    Odisha train accident: Railways disburses 22.66 cr compensation to kin of 661 victims

    Bhubaneswar: The Ministry of Railways has disbursed compensation of Rs 22.66 crore so far to the kins of 661 victims in connection with the Balasore train accident, informed South Eastern Railway, CPRO, Aditya Kumar Chaudhary on Friday.

    SER CRPO said, Trains are plying on all four lines as the lines are fit. The family members of the deceased and those who sustained serious injuries in the Balasore train accident have received the compensation.

    Meanwhile, The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has seized a hard disk from the relay room of Bahanaga Bazaar railway station.

    According to reliable reports, the hard disk contains the time when the green signal was given to the train, what the track status was then and many other information related to the accident.

    CBI has taken over the investigation of the case from the GRP, which had already filed the case. Some members of Central Forensics are involved in the investigation team along with the CBI. After registering the case, a 10-member CBI team reached the accident site and conducted an investigation. They inspected the north, and south cabin, signal room, and operating system, and recorded data of Bazar Station. The investigation team also interrogated the station master and other railway employees.

    Worth mentioning, 275 people were killed while over 1,100 others were injured following a triple train mishap at Bahanaga railway station in Odisha’s Balasore district on June 2.

    Woman poisons husband & in-laws; 1 dead, another critical

    Dhenkanal: In a shocking incident, a woman allegedly added poison to the food of her in-laws due to a family dispute in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district. Due to consuming poisonous food, the woman’s mother-in-law died and her husband is critical. The incident has come to the fore from Rashol village under Rashol police limits of the district.

    The deceased has been identified as Sulochana Sara and the accused’s husband has been identified as Jayanta Sara.

    According to sources, Jayant got married to Truptimayee for the second time less than 3 months ago. On Thursday night, following a family dispute, Truptimayee added poison to the food. After eating the poisoned food, Sulochana died, while Jayant’s health condition got critical.

    Jayant and Sulochana were immediately rushed to Rashol Hospital. The doctors declared Sulochana brought dead, while Jayant is undergoing treatment. Jayant’s father was left unhurt, as he didn’t consume the food.

    Following the incident, the family lodged a complaint with the police station.

    On being informed, the police reached the spot, seized the body, and sent it for autopsy. The cops have detained the accused daughter-in-law and are investigating.

    As per reports, the building had been used as a makeshift morgue sanctification in the Bahanga high school. The Bahanga school near the accident site was turned into a mortuary. The body of the deceased was kept in the school.

    The villagers decided to sanctify the place. A priest has been entrusted with this responsibility. This step has been taken so that the children do not get scared after the opening of the school.

    The Bahanaga High School building where bodies of train accident victims were kept is demolished after the school managing committee deems it fit. The school committee was asked to intimate its decision following which steps will be taken, said the Balasore Collector.

    According to the reports, the Balasore Collector visited the school on Thursday and inspected the school premises.

    The Chief Secretary even went on to say that if the restoration work is slow in case of kalabaisakhi, what would be the situation if there is a cyclone. “TPCentralOdisha restoration in Bhubaneswar is extremely slow. Pl pull up and restore fast. If response to kalabaisakhi can be slow, just imagine what would happen in eventual cyclone situations? Public don’t appreciate such slow action. Request immediate action,” he said in a Twitter post.

    Powers supply in different parts of the State Capital City including Saheed Nagar, Unit2, Acharya Vihar, VSS Nagar areas was disrupted after the power cables snapped following heavy rain accompanied by strong wind yesterday evening.

    Yesterday, the effect of Kalbaeshakhi was major. Suddenly, the sky was covered with clouds with wind blowing at high speed. The capital city also experiences lightning and thunder.

    The weather suddenly changed in the afternoon in Bhubaneswar. Due to wind, trees fall at various places in the capital city.

    There was a brief power outage due to a broken power line. The dust storm was followed by rain. The influence of Kalbaishakhi was seen in Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, and Kendrapada.

    In Bhubaneswar, an intense dust storm, especially in Patia and Prasanti Vihar area, was witnessed on Thursday afternoon. Soon, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and squally winds also occurred and wreaked havoc in parts of Bhubaneswar City.

    Vehicular movements were disrupted in different areas of the city following water logging due to the heavy downpour. Besides, several trees also broke and fell on the roads. Later, several teams of firefighters rushed to the spots and cleared the road by chopping off the trees.

    Not only in Bhubaneswar, but the northwestern rain also created havoc in different parts of Cuttack City, which also sizzled at 41.6 degree Celsius temperature.
