    Intercontinental Cup: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik buys first ticket for 2023 edition

    Bhubaneswar, (IANS) | Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has bought the first ticket for the upcoming Intercontinental Cup 2023 football tournament, which will be played in Bhubaneswar from June 9 to 18. The four-nation tournament will feature India, Lebanon, Mongolia and Vanuatu.

    Indian football team captain Sunil Chhetri handed over the first ticket for the main event to the chief minister in the presence of All India Football Federation (AIFF) general secretary Dr. Shaji Prabhakaran and Indian football team coach Igor Stimac.

    After the success of FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 Bhubaneswar-Rourkela, the state is all set to host another international sports tournament.

    Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said, “There is a lot of love for football among the people of Odisha. It is another honor for us to host this spectacular event and it will undoubtedly thrill many football fans in the state and India. Best wishes to the teams and fans Encourage them to turn out in large numbers to watch high quality football.”

    Odisha is also emerging as a major center for football. Odisha hosted FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022, SAFF U-20 Championship 2022, matches during ISL season, IWL 2021-22 and Odisha Women’s League, thus giving a huge boost to the development of football ecosystem in the state got promoted. ,

    In partnership with the AIFF, Bhubaneswar is also the base of the Indian Under-16 and Under-19 teams, often hosting camps and training sessions in state-of-the-art infrastructure.

    The Intercontinental Cup begins on June 9, with Lebanon taking on Vanuatu, while the home team will take on Mongolia in their first match of the campaign.

    Odisha Govt Targets To Construct 15,000 Km Roads In Next 5 Years

    Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government targets to construct 15,000 km roads under Mukhya Mantri Sadak Yojana with an expenditure of Rs 12,000 crore in next 5 years, said Rural Development Minister Preeti Ranjan Ghadai on Monday.

    Speaking to media persons in Bhubaneswar after performance review of the department by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the minister said besides the roads, 1,500 new bridges would be built with a cost of Rs 6,000 crore under Biju Setu Yojana (BSY) during the period to improve the road connectivity in rural areas of the state. While the government had committed to construct 750 bridges, 679 have already been completed and 900 more will be built by March, 2024, he added.

    Speaking on the achievements of the department, Ghadai said 2,241 roads have been constructed under various schemes and 1,304 more are under construction. Besides, 1,03,731 km roads are being maintained by the department for connectivity to 18,161 habitations.

    Similarly, more than 10,000 km roads have been constructed with green technology and 8,700 colleges, schools, multipurpose cyclone shelters and other buildings have been built in rural areas.

    The minister said the budget for the department has increased by 25 times compared to 2000-2001 from Rs 305 crore to Rs 7,500 crore in 2023-24.

    Principal secretary of the department Sanjay Kumar Singh was present at the meeting.

    Balasore: In an inhuman act of gender discrimination, a father allegedly attempted to kill his infant daughter by administering poison injection in Odisha’s Balasore district on Monday.

    As per reports, a year after their marriage, Chandan Mahana and Tanmayi were blessed with a baby girl 20 days back. Tanmayi was staying with her parents at Singhiri village under Nilagiri police limits after the delivery in a local private hospital.

    Tamayee’s father Bhagirathi Singh told the media that Chandan came to see his daughter on the day. “While Chandan was sitting with the infant, Tanmayee went to take bath. Meanwhile, the baby started crying and Tanmayee rushed to her. She found a syringe and a bottle of poison lying below the bed.”

    Stating that Chandan was not happy that he had become the father of a daughter and expressed displeasure openly. “Suspecting that he might have administered the poison to the baby, we questioned him. But he denied to have done anything like that.”

    Later, when the villagers ghearoed him and told him to tell the truth, Chandan admitted to have administered the poison injection, said Bhagirathi.

    The villagers rushed the infant to Balasore district headquarters hospital. On being informed, police detained Chandan and were questioning him.

    Karanjia: The tehsildar of Karanjia is under Odisha Vigilance scanner for accumulating disproportionate assets. The tehsildar is Charles Nayak.

    A vigilance team is conducting simultaneous raids at his government quarters in Mayurbhanj’s Karanjia and ancestral home in Bhadrak district of Odisha.

    Sources said that the vigilance conducted raids on the properties of Charles Nayak on the basis of allegation of demand and acceptance of bribe Rs.12,00,000/- (Rupees Twelve Lakhs) from a complainant. Charles reportedly demanded bribe from the complainant in order to release the compensation cheque of Rs 51,75,810, which the complainant recently received after wining in a land acquisition case. The complainant was awarded a compensation of Rs 51,75,810/- recently in lieu of acquisition of his land by the NHAI authorities. The Tahsildar demanded the bribe amount in the form of two blank cheques of Rs.10 lakhs and Rs.2 lakhs.

    Finding no alternative, the complainant handed over 2 blank cheques to the Tahasildar. After handing over and presentation of cheques in the bank for withdrawal of the bribe amount, the complainant reported the matter to Vigilance for legal action.

    In this connection, Vigilance Cell PS Case No.5/2023 has been registered. A search warrant was issued by the Hon’ble Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Baripada. Four teams of Odisha Vigilance led by one Additional SP, 7 Dy SP, 3 Inspector and other staff are conducting searches in the office and premises of Tahasildar at the following places:

    1) Office room of Tahasildar-Karanjia.

    2) Official residence of Tahasildar Karanjia located at Karanjia.

    3) Residential house of Sri Charls Nayak located at near Dist Hospital, Bhadrak.

    4) Another place located at Chadei Bhol, Karanjia.

    Locals attack JE over power outage in Odisha’s Balasore

    Nilagiri: The JE of Nilagiri Electricity Department was attacked by irate locals near Manasha Temple of Barisahi over a power outage in Balasore district of Odisha. The injured JE admitted to district headquarters hospital Odisha.

    According to sources, the JE, Partha Sarathi Barik, along with another employee were allegedly stopped on the road by a group of people while they were returning after attending a marriage function. Those people argued with them about the power outage ten they attacked them.

    The JE Partha Sarathi has received critical injuries in the attack and was admitted to Niligiri sub-district hospital for treatment. Later he was shifted to the Balasore district headquarters hospital in critical condition. The police are investigating the incident after a complaint was lodged at the Nilgiri police station.

    The Directorate of Higher Secondary Education, Odisha has started the application process for Class 11/ +2 Admissions for the year 2023 today i.e May 29. The candidates can submit their applications through the official website of SAMS Odisha at samsodisha.gov.in after the registration link is activated.

    Student Academic Management System (SAMS) will conduct the registration process for candidates seeking admission into Class-XI of Arts, Science, Commerce, Upashastri and Vocational streams in all Higher Secondary Schools (HSSs) of the State affiliated to CHSE (O) along with Vocational courses in 93 Higher Secondary Schools.

    The online application process for the admission to Odisha +2 will be open from May 29 to June 20. The 11th class’ new academic session will commence on July 29, 2023. The students who have passed in the High School Certificate (HSC) Examination from the Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha or its equivalent Boards are eligible.

    How to apply for SAMS Odisha +2 Admission 2023?
    Step 1: Visit the official website at samsodisha.gov.in.
    Step 2: Click on the link to register for +2 admission.
    Step 3: Fill in the application form as per the instructions.
    Step 4: pay the fee of Rs 200 and submit the application. The SC & ST category students need to pay Rs. 100 fee.

    Step-5: Download and take a printout of the same for future reference.

    2 critical as Bolero falls into ditch after losing control in Paradip, CCTV footage surfaces

    Paradip: At least two persons received critical injuries after a bolero they were riding in lost its control and fell down into a ditch by the side of the road. The accident took place near Santaragada of Kujang police station in Paradip.

    According to reports, the bolero was traveling from Paradip to Cuttack when it suddenly lost its balance and fell to the side of the road. The vehicle was completely destroyed in the accident and two persons were critically injured.

    The injured people were first admitted in Kujung hospital in critical condition. Later, they were shifted to Cuttack Medical Center as their condition worsened.

    The accident was captured on CCTV installed near the spot. The video looks like a scene straight out of an action movie.

    Odisha govt approves ‘Mo Ghara’ scheme among 18 other proposals in Cabinet meeting

    Bhubaneswar: As many as 18 key proposals were approved by the Odisha government in the state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today.

    The new housing scheme ‘Mo Ghara’ is among the 18 key proposals that got the nod of the cabinet today. The ‘Mo Ghara’ scheme is a government housing assistance in rural areas under the Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water Department.

    The cabinet has also approved the new scheme ‘Odisha University of Health Science’ proposed by the Health and Family welfare department.

    Odia YouTuber ‘Untalented Guy’ among six arrested for shooting duo over comment on post

    Balasore: YouTuber named Udit Naik who helms the channel ‘Untalented Guy’ has been arrested for shooting a duo who commented on his video.

    On Sunday, Industrial Estate Police arrested the YouTuber along with five others in connection with a firing incident that took place on Wednesday.

    The police also seized two pistols, two motorcycles, and seven mobile phones from their possessions.

    Reportedly, the whole matter began with a follower of Udit commenting on his video. Following this, an argument escalated between the two, and the YouTuber took his accomplices and opened fire on the two youths.

    Notably, the YouTuber makes roasting videos using foul language and enjoys about 690k subscribers on his channel.

    Later, a case was filed at the police station against Udit and his friends and a probe has been launched.

    Identified as Pinku Das of Dunharpur and Atmi Kumar Das of Niabagh, the two victims are reported to be seriously injured.

    According to the officials, Udit was previously accused in a murder case.

    As part of the probe, police has now freezed Udit’s bank account and shut down his YouTube channel.

    Meanwhile, more accused involved in this incident are soon to be arrested, said SP Shagarika Nath.

    Speeding car falls into Taladanda canal in Cuttack, 1 dead, 1 critical

    One of the two injured persons in the car crash in Taladanda canal of Cuttack has allegedly lost their life.

    A huge amount of cash has been recovered from the car, however, the exact amount of the cash recovered from the vehicle is yet to be ascertained.

    A detailed report is still awaited in this matter.

    Cuttack: Two people, including a woman, sustained serious injuries after a car they were travelling fell into the Taladanda canal in Cuttack district of Odisha today. The mishap reportedly took place between Matrubhaban-Nayabazar road.

    According to sources, the car skid off the road and plunged into the canal as there was no barricades. Locals were able to pull people out of the car.

     The locals rescued a woman and a man in the car and sent them to Cuttack Bada Medical Center. The condition of the man is said to be critical. Both the injured have been shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital.
