    Odisha CM reviews 4 years achievement of RD Department

    Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday reviewed the progress of the Rural Development department as a part of his department wise performance review. After the review, RD Minister Preeti Ranjan Ghadai and Principal Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh presented the details of achievement against the promises given in the election manifesto and also highlighted the transformational initiatives taken by the Department.

    Addressing in a press meet held at Geeta Govinda Sadan Ghadai said that the Department budget has increased 25 times in comparison to the year 2000-2001. While in 2000-01 the budget was Rs 305 Crores, it increased to Rs 7500 Crores for the year 2023-24. Till date, the Department has constructed 2241 number of bridges under different schemes & another 1304 bridges are at various stages of construction. In the road sector, 1,03,731 kms are maintained by the Department by providing all-weather connectivity to 18161 habitations. Above 10,000 Kms of roads have been constructed using Green Technologies. 8700 rural infrastructure buildings like OAVs, ITIs, College and School buildings, Multipurpose Cyclone Shelters and Health department buildings have been constructed augmenting the building infrastructures in rural areas.

    As against the Manifesto (2019-2024), commitments were made for 750 numbers of bridges under BSY, the Department has constructed 679 bridges till date. Total 900 bridges will be constructed by March-2024. Similarly, 6247 kms length of roads have been constructed under MMSY and other State Plan Schemes against the commitment of 3000 km. The Department also targets to construct another 6000 Km under MMSY by March’24 totalling to 12,247km. 27079 kms length of roads have been constructed under PMGSY. The Department targets to construct another 7643 Km under PMGSY by March’24 totalling to 34722 kms.

    The Department has augmented the rural infrastructure by constructing 164 numbers of buildings and also targets to construct another 186 numbers by March’24. State has been provided with financial incentive for excellent performance in PMGSY works amounting to Rs.1158 Crores in the last 5 years. The Department has been awarded at National level for construction of maximum road length, construction of roads using Green Technology and giving connectivity to unconnected habitations.

    Highlighting the transformational initiatives taken by the department minister said that up to the year 2000, the Department had constructed only 58 bridges. At present, the Department has already constructed 2241 bridges and another 1304 bridges are at various stages of construction. Out of above, 52 bridges constructed over different major rivers Mahanadi, Rushikulya, Brahmani, Baitarani, Tel, Indravati and Jeera with average length of 500 mtrs. The R.D. department is the first department to implement WAMIS for work automation and accounts management which has been adopted by other engineering departments of the State.

    In recent years, the standard of R.D. roads is of ODR type with intermediate lane to accommodate higher traffic volume in rural areas. The Department will ensure to make 50,000 kms of rural roads pothole free and improve riding quality by March’2024.RD Department has a vision to construct 1500 new bridges under Biju Setu Yojana (BSY) with an outlay of 6000 cr. in next 5 years which will remarkably increase the rural connectivity network. Under Mukhya Mantri Sadak Yojana (MMSY), 15000 kms of roads shall be constructed with an expenditure of Rs 12,000 crore.

    Sanjay Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary, RD Department answered various questions of journalists relating to different schemes undertaken by RD Department. A documentary on achievement of RD Departments was presented on the occasion.

    3rd Rly Line On Haridaspur-Bairi Section In Odisha Completed Before Time

    Bhubaneswar: The Indian Railways has completed Haridaspur-Bairi section of Bhadrak-Nirgundi third line project in Odisha before the deadline.

    According to sources, the work on laying the train tracks of 16.80 km between Haridaspur and Bairi, which was targeted to be completed by last week of June, has been completed before 1st week of May. It is part of Bhadrak-Nirgundi third line project in Howrah-Chennai main line between Bhadrak and Cuttack railway stations under Khurda Road division of East Coast Railway.

    Stating that more than 50% of construction works of the project have been completed, general manager Manoj Kumar Sharma said the officials have been told to focus on speedy completion of works for the critical projects. They have been advised to coordinate with stakeholders including Odisha government officials for early completion of the projects.

    Bhadrak-Nirgundi 3rd line work is expected to boost the economy of the region and provide hassle-free train operations on Howrah-Chennai route. The 92.19-km project was included in 2012-13 and the final sanction was granted in October 2015.

    Works between Jakhapura and Haridaspur, a stretch of 23.53 km, was completed in April 2016, from Kapilas Road to Salegaon, a stretch of 4.30 km was commissioned on May 2019 and from Kapilas Road to Nergundi, a distance of 4.20 km commissioned in October 2022 in phased manner.

    The Bhadrak-Nirgundi 3rd line work has been targeted be completed by 2023-24. While the project’s cost has been estimated to be Rs 1284.39 crore, already Rs 648.68 crore has been spent.

    New Delhi: Replica of Konark Chakra, one of the 24 great stone wheels of the ‘sun chariot’ at Sun Temple in Odisha, is installed at Karma Gate of new Parliament building, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday.

    The new building has three main gates – Gyan Dwar, Shakti Dwar and Karma Dwar. The huge bronze replica of the wheel at world-famous Konark Sun temple’s wheel with all intricate details is installed at the right side of the ceremonial gate of the new Parliament. “It is fixed to the right side of the ceremonial gate through which the President will enter to deliver speech at the beginning of the budget session,” BJD MP Bhartruhari Mahatab said.

    He further said that Garud (eagle), Gaj (elephant), Ashva (horse), and Maggar (crocodile) made out of sandstone have also been installed at the entrances to the new building. “It has been written there that the installation of elephants and horses has been inspired from Odisha as these adorn the entrance to Sun Temple and Jagannath Temple in Puri,” he added.

    Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also shared a picture of him with Mahatab and BJP MP Pratap Sarangi  and wrote: “The new Parliament is the best example of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’. The temple of democracy has the essence of Odisha’s rich cultural heritage. This wheel inspired from the wheel of Konark Sun temple which signifies energy, skill and progress is a reflection of India’s glory.”

    The interiors of the building are heavily coloured in ancient Indian culture, traditions and symbols that have defined India. Almost 70 per cent artwork that will adorn the walls of the new building has been commissioned, while the rest will be sourced over the next two months, Indian Express reported.

    It displays replicas of world heritage sites from each state and capturing their iconic festivals through paintings, frescoes or digital adaptions.  The public entrances lead to three galleries – Sangeet Gallery, Sthapatya Gallery and People’s Wall. Eminent musicians, including Ustad Bismillah Khan, Pandit Ravi Shankar, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Vidwan N Ramani and Pt Shiv Kumar Sharma, or their family members have gifted their instruments Sangeet Gallery that exhibits the richness of the nritya, gayan, and vadya traditions of India. The Shilpa Gallery has handicrafts of all Indian states while the People’s Wall showcases folk and tribal traditions and paintings made by 75 female grassroots artists.

    5T Secy VK Pandian visits Puri Srimandira, takes stock of Srimandira Heritage Corridor project work

    Puri: Odisha CM’s 5T secretary VK Pandian visited Srimandira of Puri in Odisha on Saturday along with his wife and took stock of the progress of the Srimandira Heritage Corridor project work. He also discussed with the senior officials of the district administration and the officers of Tata.

    As per reports, the 5T Secretary visited the famous Lord Jagannath temple of Puri with his wife. The couple also visited the temples of Goddess Laxmi and Goddess Bimala and other ‘parswa devas/devis’ in the Srimandira premises.

    Following the darshan, Pandian took stock of the Srimandira Heritage Corridor project work that is going on around the temple. He also talked to the officials of the district administration.

    The famous Devasnana Purnima is falling on coming June 4. Hence, by this date, the outer road of the Heritage project will be completed, the officials said. It will benefit the locals as well as devotees to move easily.

    During this visit, Ayush Mohapatra, a reverse painter from Puri presented a photograph of the 5T secretary to him that has been drawn through reverse painting.

    Bhubaneswar: Temperature has dropped in different places of the State due to the effect of Norwester rain. It has brought a sigh of relief from the scorching sunlight and heat wave. This weather condition will continue for another 4 days, informed the MeT Department.

    As per reports, different places of Odisha witnessed storm and rain due to the effect of Norwester in the last two to three days. Lightning, thunderstorm has been witnessed while rain has also lashed. Accordingly, it has brought temporary relief from the heat wave.

    It has been observed that while sunny weather is continuing in the day time, the Norwester is showing its effect in the evening hours. Accordingly, it is raining along with lightning, thunderstorm. And, this weather condition will continue for the coming four days, informed the MeT Department.

    In the meanwhile maximum day temperature has reached 42 degree Celcius in some places of the State. Yellow warning has been issued for as many as 19 districts regarding rain for today. Out of that gusty wind is likely to blow at a speed of 40 to 50 kmph in 14 districts.

    Bhubaneswar: Raids conducted at Night Clubs, Bars, Hotels in Infocity and Chandrasekharpur area

    Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police conducted raids at different night clubs, bars and hotels of Infocity and Chandrasekharpur area yesterday night to check if there is any violation of the Excise rules.

    As per reports, two special Police teams along with three platoons of Force and officers of the CTS Force and Team 60 conducted the raids.

    It was checked whether these commercial centres were operating beyond the permitted time, whether any type of violation of the sound permission is there or not. In nutshell, the checking was to verify whether these bars and hotels are abiding the Excise rules or not.

    The above Enforcement activities were conducted under Safe City Drive Bhubaneswar.

    Reportedly, Commissionerate Police will send notice to the bars and hotels of Chandrasekharpur and Infocity area that were found violating the Excise rules. Also, the Excise department will be asked to issue notice in this connection to the said bars and hotels.

    Such type of raids will also be conducted in the coming days, informed Bhubaneswar DCP.

    Property worth lakhs gutted in fire at hotel in Kandhamal dist

    Baliguda: Property worth lakhs gutted due to a fire mishap that took place at a hotel in Kandhamal district of Odisha on Saturday night. The fire accident took place at the Kuna hotel near Hanuman temple in K Nuagan.

    As per reports, the fire broke out in the hotel late in the night when it was closed. After getting information the owner of the hotel and the locals tried to douse the flames.

    Meanwhile the Baliguda Fire Services Department was alerted. The fire service personnel reached the spot and doused the flames.

    The reason behind the fire mishap is yet to be ascertained.

    Property worth lakhs including a refrigerator and furniture gutted in the fire accident.

    Earlier this week, at least seven shops gutted due to a fire accident in Hatpada area of Bargarh district in Odisha. On the night of May 26 first a fire broke out at a shop in the daily market area. Soon, it spread to other shops at about 10 pm in the night.

    While the exact reason behind the fire was not known, it was suspected that a short circuit might have caused the fire.

    Bhubaneswar: In heart wrenching incident, a doctor couple planned to celebrate their three months wedding anniversary with much joy and happiness. Everything was ready for their celebration. But, sadly the husband died in a road accident in Bhubaneswar hours before the celebration.

    The deceased has been identified as Manoj Kumar. He died in a road accident at Fire Station Square of the State Capital City.

    According to reports, Manoj had married to Doctor Sushri Sangita, the daughter of Kabiraj Behera, on March 28 as per the Vedic rituals in a grand way. The couple and their family members were extremely happy for their wedding.

    The doctor couple also had made all arrangements to celebrate their three months wedding anniversary. However, Manoj met with an accident. He was rushed to the Hospital for treatment. But, he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

    Manoj’s untimely and unfortunate death just three months after his wedding has left the family members devastated.

    Mutilated body of youth found near railway track in Odisha’s Balangir dist

    Balangir: In a tragic incident, the mutilated body of a youth was found near the railway track in Balangir district of Odisha. The incident took place in Kantabanji of the district.

    The deceased has been identified as Nityananda Sagaria of Jhupudi Pada in Kantabanji.

    As per reports, Nityananda had gone to out of State to work as a migrant labourer. He returned home a few days back. Yesterday night he went from the home and did not return. Hence, his family members searched for him but in vain. And today morning his mutilated body was found near the railway track near Trolley pada.

    After getting information Kantabanji GRP and RPF officers reached the spot today morning and seized the body. Further investigation of the case is underway.

    While the exact reason of his death is yet to be ascertained, from preliminary investigation it has been known that he might have committed suicide due to family disturbance.

    Dhenkanal: In an unfortunate incident, a crude bomb, which had been planted for poaching of wild boars in the forest exploded inside the mouth of a cow. The incident took place in the Katumunda forest area under Mahavirroad Forest Range in Dhenkanal district of Odisha on Sunday.

    As per reports, the cattle of Labani Behera of Katumunda had gone to the forest for grazing grass. The said crude bomb had been planted to trap wild boars which one of the cows swallowed thinking it to be some kind of eatable item. Accordingly, the animal sustained critical injury.

    After getting information Prabhanjan Behera, the Forest Guard of Ghagaramunda Forest Beat reached the spot and informed the vet about the incident. The cow has received treatment in this regard. However, it has sustained critical injury inside it’s mouth cavity.
