    Van carrying 30 people overturns in Umerkote, 10 women injured

    Umerkote: At least ten women were injured critically on Thursday after a van carrying around 30 people hit a tree in Umerkote of Nabarangpur district of Odisha.

    According to reports, the injured women were from Bisamapuriasahi area. The inured women along with twenty others were reportedly heading towards the Shiva temple in Bulipatana for sitalasasthi when the van lost control and hit a tree on the road side. After hitting the tree, the van overturned. Which resulted in the women getting injured.

    The other women has a narrow escape from the accident. The injured people have been admitted in the nearby hospital.

    Fishing boat capsizes in Chitrakonda dam in Malkangiri, One missing

    Malkangiri: One person has gone missing on Wednesday evening after a fishing boat capsized following rain and strong winds in Chitrakonda dam in Malkangiri district of Odisha.

    According to reports, three people identified as Krupa, Hari and Kailash, of Dyke-3 village had gone fishing in the dam and were returning from Singaram area when the boat capsized due to sudden rain and winds. Hari Sagaria and Kailash Nayak managed to swim back ashore after the boat capsized. However, Krupa Benia had gone missing after the incident.

    They immediately informed the villagers who launched a rescue operation. However, the search operation was suspended midway due to darkness.

    On Thursday morning, the villagers resumed the operation, which was later joined by a team of the fire services department. However, there is still no trace of the missing Krupa.

    Bansapal: A woman ward member has been trampled to death by an elephant in Keonjhar district of Odisha on Thursday, said reliable reports.

    The tragic incident has been reported from Banbiharipur village of Telkoi forest under Bimala Forest Division in Keonjhar.

    The dead woman has been identified Draupadi Naik, the wife of Dwitikrishna Naik of the same village. She is also a ward member of the nearby panchayat, said reports. When she went to pick mangoes from the nearby mango tree, the elephant trampled her.

    The elephant attacked Draupadi and escaped. After some time, the family members rescued her and brought her to Telkoi Medical Center.

    At the medical center the doctor declared her brought dead. However, after this incident the forest department has given a Rs. 60,000 compensation to the family of the deceased in the first phase. It is reported that, a 15-year-old elephant is found to be living in Banbiharipur area under Keonjhar forest division.

    Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, students of Vani Vihar University spotted the hanging body of a youth in the early morning hours of Thursday.

    According to reliable reports, the dead body of the youth was recovered from the premises of the Vani Vihar University campus. The dead body was recovered in a hanging condition.

    The Shaheed Nagar police immediately reached the spot. The deceased has been identified. The name of the deceased is Uttam Nayak alias Kalia. He is said to be 21 years old.

    The youth is a resident of Dandamukundapur area in Pipili block under Puri district limits in Odisha. He used to live with his family inside the campus of Vani Vihar University in Bhubaneswar.

    It is worth mentioning that, Uttam used to work as a daily labourer. Kalia’s father however has told sources that his son was at home last night. But, he was baffled as to how and when he went out of the house and hung himself from the tree.

    Further the deceased’s father has alleged that someone had murdered Kalia and hanged him. The Saheed Nagar police are investigating into the matter and are searching for evidence whether the death is a murder or a suicide.

    Keonjhar: In a tragic incident, a young woman has been critically attacked by a man and his family for asking to marry him after seven years of relationship in Keonjhar district of Odisha.

    This incident has been reported from Anandpur police station limits area of ​​Keonjhar district in Odisha. According to the complaint, a man identified as Vasant Mahanth had a relationship with a young woman from Sujanapal village for seven years, said reports.

    It was alleged that Vasant had a physical relationship with her with the promise of marriage. Yesterday, the young lady reached the house of Vasant and saw that his engagement ceremony was underway.

    On seeing the young woman, Vasant’s family attacked her and took away her mobile phone. The young woman managed to escape and informed the police. Anandpur police has reached and is investigating into the matter.

    Bhubaneswar: Most parts of Odisha are facing a heatwave-like situation for almost a week. On Thursday Bhubaneswar and Sambalpur were boiling at 39.2°C at 11:30 am.

    It is worth mentioning that Bhubaneswar and Sambalpur were the hottest places in Odisha on Thursday, said the Official Twitter handle of Meteorological Centre situated here in Bhubaneswar.

    However, the residents of Jharsuguda were a bit relieved from the reeling heat since the district recorded 38.4°C.

    The Meteorological Department has warned that the heat wave conditions will prevail across the state for five more days.

    Due to the heat wave, the maximum day temperature might rise above 42 degrees in most parts of Western Odisha. Meanwhile, the temperature in coastal areas of the state will remain above 40 degrees.

    The MeT has predicted that there will be no major changes in the next three days. Meteorologists has predicted that the temperature will drop due to pre-monsoon in the coastal areas of Kerala and Karnataka this week. However, the temperature will likely not drop for Odisha and other states of the country before June 10.

    Shocking! Man hacks wife to death in Odisha, carries head back home

    Gajapati: In a shocking incident reported from Gajapati district in Odisha, a man has allegedly hacked his wife and separated her head from her body and thrown it into the fields.

    According to reports, this gruesome incident has taken place under Kashinagar police station limits in Gajapati district in Odisha on Thursday.

    The alleged offender, that is the husband has been identified as Muna Karji. He had allegedly gone to the agricultural lands with his wife in the morning, said reliable reports.

    The villagers were shocked to see Muna returning from the fields with the head of his wife in his hand. He then kept the head right in front of the door of his house.

    The shocked villagers immediately informed the local police about the incident. The police rushed to the spot and found Muna sitting coolly besides the cut head.

    The man then confessed that he had killed his wife and hacked her. He had then separated the head from the body. He further added that he had left the body in the field and brought the head back home.

    They immediately sprung into action and arrested the accused husband. The police seized the body from the field and the head from the house and sent it for postmortem.

    However the reason behind the gruesome murder is yet to be revealed. The police is investigating into the matter, detailed report in this shocking case is awaited.

    Bhubaneswar: The process of the Odisha Plus 2 admissions will begin soon informed the Higher Education Department of Odisha.

    The online application process for Odisha Plus 2 admissions will commence through the Student Academic Management System (SAMS) portal on May 29, 2023.

    It is worth mentioning that the last date for submission of application for Odisha Plus 2 admissions is June 20.

    Furthermore, the first merit list is to be published on June 28, 2023 Higher Education Department of Odisha.

    The department further said that the classes of Odisha Plus 2 will commence on July 29, 2023.

    In keeping with the high pass percentage of students who have passed in Odisha Matric exams this year, the number of Plus 2 seats has also been increased.

    The School and Mass Education Department of the Government of Odisha has decided to upgrade schools in various districts of the State and increase the number of Plus 2 seats.

    The Department has published an official notification in this regard. It has prepared an exhaustive list of the schools that have been upgraded and posted it on twitter.

    Bhubaneswar: From the next academic year, students of all colleges and universities of the state of Odisha will get free Wi-Fi and 1 GB Data.

    Higher Education Minister Rohit Pujari gave this information after the review meeting of the State Higher Education Department.

    The Department of Electronics Information and Technology (IT) will work to provide free 1 GB data. Similarly, the State government will bring sports policy and start-up policy for students.

    The State government has already started coaching the civil services aspirants in accordance with the new syllabus pattern. For this, 200 students have been selected through entrance examination.

    The above information was provided in a press meet after the review meeting of the Odisha Higher Education Department. Rohit Pujari, Minister of Higher Education and Bishnupada Sethi, Secretary Higher Education gave the above information.

    Two including police officer killed, ASI injured in an accident in Odisha’s Boudh

    Boudh: In an unfortunate incident, two people including a police officer was killed and other two were injured on Wednesday after a Bolero collided head-on with a truck in Boudh district of Odisha. The accident took place near Kamalpur chaak.

    According to reports, a team of Baunsuni police of Boudh district was returning from Cuttack to Baunsuni after completing a rescue operation when a truck coming from the direction of Sonepur collided with the bolero they were riding in. After the collision, the bolero turned turned on the spot. The deceased home guard has been identified as Jagannath Meher.

    A police home guard and the bolero driver were killed on the spot in the accident while an ASI and another home guard sustained critical injuries.

    The injured cops have been admitted in the Boudh hospital for treatment. More details awaited.
