    The miscreant put the minor boy in the sack; Attempt to blast land in Odisha’s Bhadrak

    Bhadrak: In a shocking incident, it has been learnt that a minor boy was put inside a gunny bag that is meant to keep potatoes. The attacker then attempted to bang him on the ground while the boy was still inside the sack. And while his father tried to save his son, the attacker allegedly thrashed him.

    Such a strange and disturbing incident has been reported from Bhadrak district of Odisha. The incident took place in the Aradi village under Dhusuri Police limits in the district.

    The victim minor boy has been identified as the son of Srikanta Biswal of Aradi. The identity of the accused is yet to be ascertained while he is so far at large.

    As per reports, the miscreant put the minor boy and tried to bang him on the ground when his father Srikanta came to his son’s rescue, but he was also attacked.

    As a result of the attack, Srikanta has reportedly sustained injuries at multiple places on his body. He then went to the Police Outpost to lodge a complaint, but allegedly the officer in Charge there denied to accept the complaint for which he then informed the matter at Dhusuri Police Station.

    Srikanta has been admitted to the Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital. He has prayed Police to arrest the attacker at the earliest.

    Woman critical due to chemical explosion in Odisha’s Puri dist

    Bramhagiri: A woman sustained critical injury due to a chemical explosion in the Puri district of Odisha on Sunday. The blast occurred in the Arakhakuda village under Arakhakuda Marine Police Station limits in the Brahmagiri area.

    The victim woman has been identified as Mamali Behera.

    As per reports, the said explosive material that is used in the making of boats had been kept in the house which somehow exploded on Sunday afternoon.

    As a result, the woman sustained injuries on her face and some other parts of her body.

    Following the incident, the victim woman was rushed to the nearby hospital. However, as her condition deteriorated she was then shifted to the district Headquarter hospital in Puri for treatment.

    CM promotes Odisha tourism and sports in Japan’s Kyoto

    Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mr Naveen Patnaik, on April 8, 2023, hosted a roundtable discussion in Kyoto with a focus on opportunities for collaboration between Japan and Odisha in Tourism and Sports.

    The discussion was attended by major tour operators and representatives of the hospitality sector from Japan as well as participation from various Japanese sports associations and representatives from the sports sector.

    During the discussion, the Chief Minister highlighted the immense potential of Odisha as a tourist destination, with a particular emphasis on leveraging Odisha’s rich Buddhist tradition, especially the heritage sites in Dhauli, Lalitgiri, Ratnagiri and Udayagiri. He spoke about the various initiatives undertaken by the Government of Odisha to promote tourism and improve tourism infrastructure in the state.

    The Chief Minister also highlighted the significant strides made by Odisha in the sports sector and expressed his hope for collaboration with Japanese sports associations and universities.

    Chief Minister Sri Patnaik highlighted the Government of Odisha’s focus on the field of hockey. He informed the audience about the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium, the world’s largest hockey stadium in terms of seating capacity and how it was built in a record 15 months’ time. He also spoke about the focus of the Government of Odisha on improving sports at the grassroots level.

    Recently, the Student Delegates and Professors of Doshisha University, Kyoto, Japan had been to KIIT University, Bhubaneswar on an academic exposure trip. The Chief Minister cited this example and urged everyone present to explore such collaborative opportunities. He urged stakeholders in the sports and tourism sector to explore opportunities for collaboration between Japan and Odisha.

    During the event, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Government of Odisha and Arcelor-Mittal Nippon Steel for the development of a state-of-the-art Gymnastics Centre in Odisha and for collaboration between AM/NS and the Government of Odisha, to further promote sports in the state.

    The delegation also provided an overview of the investment opportunities available in Odisha for Japanese investors in the tourism and sports sectors. The representatives from the tourism and hospitality sector expressed their interest in exploring the possibilities of collaboration with Odisha, given the state’s unique cultural heritage and natural beauty.

    The roundtable discussion provided an excellent opportunity for both the Japanese and Odisha delegations to explore avenues of collaboration in tourism and sports. The meeting concluded with the participants expressing their commitment to working towards strengthening ties between Japan and Odisha in these critical sectors.

    The Chief Minister expressed his appreciation for the warm hospitality extended by the people of Kyoto and conveyed his hope that the visit would contribute to further strengthening the relationship between Japan and Odisha.

    Principal Secretary, Industries Hemant Sharma made a detailed presentation on the Tourism sector in Odisha and the opportunities with State policy. Secretary Sports Vineel Krishna made a presentation on the sports sector-related activities and the unique partnership model promoted by the state.

    The delegates actively participated in the deliberations and showed active interest in partnering with Odisha.

    Youth critical, 3 others injured in acid attack in Odisha’s Balangir district

    Bangomunda: In a shocking incident, a youth sustained critical injury following an acid attack in Balangir district of Odisha on Friday. Three others also sustained injury in the attack. The incident took place in the Sahu Pada of Bangomunda.

    The acid attack victims have been identified as Khaga Sahu, Jagabandhu Sahu and Sanju Sahu. The critically injured youth has been identified as Subash Sahu.

    As per reports, the incident took place due to the stealing of hens. Earlier the families of Subash Sahu and Nepal Sahu had fought over the stealing of hens. The fight augmented and today the victims were attacked with acid.

    Police have arrested two persons in this connection. They have been identified as Tulasi Sahu and her son Nepal Sahu.

    The injured persons have been shifted to Balangir for treatment.

    Odisha DSP’s 2 Sons Arrested For Fatal Assault On Man In Bengaluru

    Balasore: The Economic Offences Wing, Bhubaneswar has cracked an App based online fraud scheme named ‘Cloud Fut’ and arrested one person in this connection on Friday.

    The accused has been identified as Nilesh Kumar Kar of Angaragadia, Balasore. The charges against the accused have been levelled under sections 420/467/468/471/120-B of IPC, read with Sec.66 (D) of IT Act/Section 6 of OPID Act.

    The arrested accused was produced before the Court under OPID Act at Balasore, and is being brought to Bhubaneswar on 04 days police remand.

    As per reports, the case was registered on the allegation of Mahamanya Jena of Sahadebkhunta, Balasore against the arrested accused Nilesh Kar, for inducing him to invest in a App/website namely ‘Cloud-Fut’ for earning extra money.

    Being induced by him, the informant invested Rs.2, 13,038/- by depositing the same in between January to March, 2023. When he was to get Rs.50, 57,117/-on his invested amount, as shown in the wallet of ‘Cloud Fut’, suddenly the website stopped functioning and the informant could not withdraw the amount.

    It is to be noted that the ‘Cloud-Fut’ is an online APP/ linked based company running a huge Ponzi/ MLM scheme fraudulently claiming to be a crypto mining company. It claimed itself to be a USA based company headed by some Richard Purcell. A video was also shown to investors in which this person (Richard Purcell) is promoting the “Cloud Fut” in English with American accent.

    It claimed and also produced fake certificates of RBI to gain the trust of investors. It was claimed that Government of India has made a 10 years agreement with “Cloud Fut”. It lured more than 80,000 investors across the country with a promise of multiplying their money in a very short period. At least 200 investors are from Balasore district.

    For introducing new members it also offered huge bonus/ commission. The policies started as low as from Rs 665/- to in Lakhs. Initially investors used to get some returns but at the end the App/ website closed. It was mainly running through Telegram Channel and Whatsapp groups.

    The arrested accused Nilesh Kar was the certified district head of Balasore. He showed the fake authorization letter from RBI and also the appointment letter of ‘Cloud-Fut’ as Dist. Leader to gain the trust. He was also promoting it through various means.

    Further investigation is on to find out the mastermind and top bosses of this scam.

    A Mobile phone containing many incriminating materials has been seized from the arrested accused. Besides fake authorization/certificate purportedly issued by Governor, RBI and also the appointment letter issued to the accused by the Cloud-Fut etc. have also been seized from the possession of the accused The investigation of the case is on.

    4 Children Become Critically Ill After Consuming Pesticide In Odisha’s Bhadrak

     Four children became critically ill after consuming pesticide in a farm field in Odisha’s Bhadrak district on Thursday.

    According to sources, the incident occurred while the four children in the age group of one and a half years to 3 years were playing in a farmland in Jhinkiria village under Tihidi block of the district in the morning. They came across a pesticide bottle lying there and all of them drank from the bottle.

    After some time, some villagers found them lying unconscious in the field and informed their parents. Two of the children are brother and sister.

    The villagers rushed the unconscious children to government hospital at Tihidi. Later, they were shifted to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) at Bhadrak.

    The doctors of the DHH said the children were still unconscious and under observation. If their condition does not improve, they would be referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack, they added.

    Odisha Govt To Appoint District Officers As Project Directors Of DUDA On Contractual Basis

     In order to ensure effective management of the urban local bodies (ULBs), the Odisha government has decided to appoint district level officers as project director (PD) of District Urban Development Agency (DUDA).

    As per the decision taken by the Housing and Urban Development department, the post of PD, DUDA will be filled up from the pool of superannuated officers from OAS/OFS/OPS/ORS/District Statistical Officer/District Small Savings Officer and any other district level officers.

    The officers would undergo orientation, training and handholding along with a strong PMU and logistics to meet various functional requirements.

    The State Urban Development Agency (SUDA) will engage the services of PDs in the districts where the posts are lying vacant. Their service will be purely contractual for 1 year. The expenditure for the purpose would be met from the capacity building fund available with SUDA.

    The department has taken the decision as it has become increasingly difficult to effectively manage the ULBs across the state in the absence of effective supervision structure at the intermediate level.

    SBI Dy Manager Held By Odisha EOW For Misappropriating Rs 8 Crore

    Bhubaneswar: Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Odisha police arrested a Deputy Manager of State Bank of India’s (SBI) Phulbani branch for allegedly misappropriating money to the tune of Rs eight crore.

    The accused, identified as Asutosh Acharya, was arrested from Cuttack by EOW which had registered a case on the allegation of SBI’s Regional Manager, Phulbani.

    Acharya, Dy. Manager-cum-Field Officer of SBI at Phulbani Branch was accuswed of illegally recommending and processing 59 Xpress Credit Loans meant for the salaried person and 26 Pension Loans meant for the pensioners to the non-salaried persons and non-pensioners, an EOW release said.

    It was alleged that the accused subsequently misappropriated the loan amount of Rs.8,01,87,000/- by transferring the same to the account of his family members, relatives etc.

    From Septemper 2021 to September 2022, Acharya in conspiracy with others fraudulently recommended and processed 59 Xpress Credit Loans of Rs.6,77,30,000/- meant for the salaried persons to the non-salaried persons. Similarly, 26 Pension Loans amounting to Rs.99,82,795/- meant for the pensioners were illegally processed and recommended by the accused in favour of the non-pensioners those include his father, mother and father-in-law (dead), it said.

    The loans were sanctioned on the basis of the recommendation of the accused based on the manufacture and use of forged documents like salary slips etc. The sanctioned amounts were being landed in the SB A/c of the borrowers beyond their knowledge, and the amounts were further being diverted to different accounts including those of the family members, relatives of the accused among others.

    The loan amounts were being misappropriated by the present accused, who was learnt to put the same in illegal money circulation. The accused is highly ambitious and was trying to make easy money by investing the loan amount in some other profitable business. He was the instrument in getting the loan sanctioned in the name of different ineligible persons without the knowledge of the borrower.

    The accused misappropriated the total loan amount of Rs.8,01,87,000.The investigation of the case is in progress, the EOW added.

    Three students who went to bathe in the river drowned in Odisha’s Bhadrak

    Bhubaneswar (IANS) | Three students drowned in Naliya river in Odisha’s Bhadrak district on Tuesday, while two others were rescued. According to the local people, five class 11 students of Charampa College had gone to the river to take a bath when the tragic incident took place. Local fire brigade reached the spot and rescued all the five students and took them to Bhadrak Hospital. Where the doctors declared three students brought dead and two other students were discharged after first aid.

    A doctor at Bhadrak Hospital, P.K. Khara said that we found three of the five students dead in the hospital. His post-mortem will be done and after that the exact cause will be ascertained.

    Local MLA Sanjeeb Kumar Mallick said that a very sad incident happened today, in which we lost our three small children. Aid has been provided to the dead by the Red Cross. I would urge the government to sanction Rs 4 lakh ex-gratia to the family members of each of the deceased.

    Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident as many as six street dogs have been killed in Bhubaneswar, said reliable reports on Monday.

    According to reliable reports, as many as six street dogs have been poisoned to death in Chandrashekharpur area of Bhubaneswar.

    This incident has drawn heavy criticism from animal lovers across the state and the state capital of Bhubaneswar. Many of the locals of the area were of the opinion that this act should draw immediate police action.

    It is however worth mentioning that a police complaint has been lodged in this matter with the Chandrashekharpur police station. The case has been filed under appropriate sections of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960.
