    BJD Leader Shot At In Odisha’s Dhenkanal

    Dhenkanal: A BJD leader sustained critical injuries after three motorcycle-borne miscreants opened fired on him at Kamakhyanagar in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district, last night.

    The victim, identified as Kanhu Charan Sahu, was rushed to the Kamakhyanagar Hospital with grievous injuries in his hand and thigh and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as his condition deteriorated.

    According to sources, the incident took place around 10.45 pm when the miscreants intercepted his car and shot two rounds of bullets at him after breaking the windowpane of the vehicle. The attackers fled the spot after the incident.

    On being informed, police reached the spot and started examining CCTV footage to identify the miscreants.

    The motive behind the attack on Sahu is yet to be ascertained.

    Notably, the BJD leader was escaped unhurt in similar attacks in the past. On October 10, 2022, miscreants had hurled bombs at his resience and car. Unidentified miscreants had attacked Sahu with deadly weapons while going to the district office in Dhenkanal on December 28, 2018. The miscreants also fired on him but he managed to escape taking refuge in the local police station.

    Bomb planted for poaching explodes in mouth of cow in Odisha’s Dhenkanal

    Dhenkanal: In an unfortunate incident, a crude bomb, which had been planted for poaching of wild boars in the forest exploded inside the mouth of a cow. The incident took place in the Katumunda forest area under Mahavirroad Forest Range in Dhenkanal district of Odisha on Sunday.

    As per reports, the cattle of Labani Behera of Katumunda had gone to the forest for grazing grass. The said crude bomb had been planted to trap wild boars which one of the cows swallowed thinking it to be some kind of eatable item. Accordingly, the animal sustained critical injury.

    After getting information Prabhanjan Behera, the Forest Guard of Ghagaramunda Forest Beat reached the spot and informed the vet about the incident. The cow has received treatment in this regard. However, it has sustained critical injury inside it’s mouth cavity.

    Tehsildar Injured In Attack By Mafia In Odisha’s Dhenkanal

    Dhenkanal: A tehsildar was critically injured in an attack by members of a mafia while the former tried to prevent illegal shifting of soil in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Friday.

    According to sources, Parjang tehsildar Subhra Patel had gone to Patharkhamb village to investigate into the information that some people were trying to lift soil from a government land with a JCB machine. On reaching the spot, the tehsildar took the photographs of the people indulged in illegal work.

    Enraged over it, a group of 8 to 10 people attacked Patel and tried to run JCB vehicle over him. When revenue inspector Alok Kumar Lenka rushed to the spot to rescue the tehsildar, he was also beaten up by the gang.

    Later, the locals rushed both officers to Kamakhyanagar sub-divisional hospital. On being informed, Parjang MLA Nrusingh Charan Sahu and Kamakhyanagar deputy collector Jyoti Shankar Sahu went to the hospital and enquired about the condition of the injured officers.

    A police team went to the village and seized the tractor used by the gang to transport the soil. But by the time they reached there, the gang members had already fled. The police have registered a case and launched an investigation.

    20 Injured As Van Falls Off Bridge In Odisha’s Dhenkanal

    Dhenkanal: Over 20 people were injured, eight of them critically after a van they were traveling in fell off a bridge near Kamakhyanagar in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Saturday.

    The mishap took place when a ‘Bhajan-Kirtan’ group was returning to Alatuma after performing a programme at Kotagara this morning.

    The van fall off Mahulapal bridge after losing balace and overturned. The passengers on board were from one locality of Alatuma village.

    The injured were rescued and admitted to Kamakhyanagar hospital. Eight of them were later shifted to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Dhenkanal as their condition turned critical. Further details are awaited
