    The police have arrested a man involved in the illicit trade of opium smuggling. The arrested person has been identified as Rohtash, alias Kalu, a resident of Rattewali village in Panchkula district. A police team was patrolling near the Toka Chandimandir village when they received an information about Kalu’s involvement in opium smuggling on Sunday. Acting on a tip-off, the team proceeded towards Rattewali bus stand and spotted a person approaching them with a bag. However, upon seeing the police vehicle, the man tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended by cops. The detained person identified himself as Rohtash, alias Kalu of Rattewali village in Panchkula district. During search, the police recovered 670 gram of opium concealed in his bag. A case was registered against him at the Chandimandir police station.

    The Focal Point police today nabbed a person accused of sexually assaulting a minor girl. The suspect has also been declared a Proclaimed Offender (PO) by the court. He has been identified as Suraj, a native of Bihar.

    SHO Amandeep Brar said the suspect had been booked by the Focal Point police in February 2020 on the charges of raping a minor. He had been at large since the registration of the case and was declared a PO by the court in 2022.

    On Saturday, the police received a tip-off about the whereabouts of the suspect. Accordingly, he was arrested in a raid. His interrogation is on to know about the persons who were sheltering him.

    The city police recovered 120-gm heroin from the possession of Nirmal Singh Ninma, a resident of Nanaksar Mohalla in Tarn Taran, on Sunday.

    Sub-Inspector Vipin Kumar led a police party. The police said as soon as the police party entered his house, the accused ran atop his house and jumped to the ground to abscond, but injured his ankle. He was admitted to the local Civil Hospital and the police had not shown him arrested in the record.

    In another case, Amritpal Singh of Sabhra village in the district was arrested with 30-gm heroin by the Patti Sadar police. Cases under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) have been registered against the accused.

    The detective staff of the Panchkula police nabbed a person with 10.30-gm heroin.

    The suspect has been identified as Jagdeep Singh, a resident of Surajpur village near Pinjore.

    DCP (Law and order) Nikita Khattar said a team led by detective staff incharge Nirmal Singh was present near Surajpur on April 23 when it saw a man coming on foot and trying to run away in the opposite direction on seeing cops.

    The police team overpowered him after a brief chase. On search, 10.30-gm heroin was recovered from his possession.

    A case under the NDPS Act was registered against the suspect. He was produced in court, which remanded him in two-day police custody.

    c The detective staff of the Panchkula police today arrested a vehicle thief and recovered three cars from his possession. The suspect has been identified as Sanjay Mishra, a resident of Navtol Behat village, Bihar.

    A police official said a person had stolen a car from Sector 15 resident Swati Thakur’s house on December 30 last year.

    In another incident, he had taken away a car from outside the house of Dipanshu Bansal, a resident of Sector 15, Panchkula, on August 27.

    In the third incident, the suspect had stolen a car owned by Vijay Kumar, a resident of Sector 17, on January 23, 2023.

    Detective staff in-charge Nirmal Singh said the suspect was arrested yesterday and produced in a court today, which remanded him to judicial custody.

    Amritsar: The Chheharta police have nabbed a vehicle lifter, identified as Baljit Singh of Dhattal village falling under the Gharinda police station, here and recovered four stolen bikes from his possession. Chheharta SHO Gurwinder Singh said that Baljit was arrested from San Sahib Road when he was travelling on a bike sans registration number plate. He could not give satisfactory answers to police queries and later the bike was found to be stolen one. A case was registered against him and during probe, the police seized three more bikes from him. Meanwhile, in another incident the police arrested Vikramjit Singh of Khurmania and Gurpreet Singh of Kauke village and seized one stolen motorcycle from them. They had stolen the bike from Khandwala and were arrested from near Kale village turn. tns

    The district police have seized 22.3 kgs of ganja patti worth over Rs 2.20 lakh.One person has been arrested in this connection.

    According to Inspector Jangsher, in-charge, CIA, Hodal, ganja was seized from a resident of Lohagarh Colony of the Camp area, identified as Kanhaiya Lal. He said the accused was nabbed last night after the police intercepted a car near Ujina drain in Hodal subdivision around 11 pm. He added that a special checkpoint was set up after a tip-off.

    In the presence of the HVPNL SDO, the checking was carried out and ganja patti was seized from a bag kept on the car’s rear seat. With the recovery of drugs valued at Rs 2 lakh, the police impounded the car and registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, said Jangsher.

    The source and destination of drug peddling is under investigation, said a police official.
