    Operation Kaveri: IAF flight with 47 passengers onboard lands in India

    NEW DELHI: An Indian Air Force flight carrying 47 passengers onboard has landed in India, taking the toll of evacuees to 3862 persons under Operation Kaveri, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Friday.

    “An Indian Air Force C130 J flight carrying 47 passengers has landed in India. With this arrival, 3862 persons have been moved out of Sudan through #OperationKaveri,” the EAM tweeted.The EAM said that it was because of the commitment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure the safety of all Indians in Sudan that led to this complex exercise.

    Taking to Twitter, Jaishankar wrote, “Prime Minister @narendramodi’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all Indians abroad was our inspiration. Moving passengers to Port Sudan from various locations across the country in precarious security circumstances was a complex exercise.”

    The aircraft that brought back 47 Indian evacuees from Jeddah to Delhi took off earlier this morning.

    “IAF C-130J aircraft with 47 evacuees from Sudan is on its way to Delhi from Jeddah Nearly 3800 persons have now been rescued from Sudan under #OperationKaveri,” the MEA Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted and informed about the same.Earlier today, a group of 9 stranded Indian evacuees from Sudan landed in Mumbai from Jeddah. After returning from the crisis-hit country, evacuees expressed their happiness.

    Salim, who returned to India, said, “I went to meet my relatives. I was stuck in Sudan for about 20 days. When I contacted the embassy there, they served me very well and quickly.”

    Meanwhile, Mubarak, another evacuee that returned to Mumbai said that the Indian embassy in Sudan has helped him a lot. “The Indian Embassy arranged food and gave shelter in its office. The Embassy also gave the bus service to go to Port Sudan,” he added.

    The two warring factions in Sudan, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) agreed to a seven-day ceasefire, according to a statement of the foreign ministry of South Sudan on Tuesday, reported CNN.

    Previous ceasefires haven’t been able to put an end to the violence between the opposing factions across the nation.

    Nearly nine days have passed since the Government of India launched its ambitious rescue mission, “Operation Kaveri” to evacuate stranded Indians in conflict-ridden Sudan.

    The operation was carried out using 5 Indian Naval Ships and 16 Indian Air Force aircraft including one from Wadi Sayyidna military airbase.

    Over 200 Gujarat residents return home from Sudan under Operation Kaveri

    AHMEDABAD: More than 200 Gujarat residents from the strife-ridden African nation of Sudan returned home on Tuesday. As part of Operation Kaveri, the Government of India organised a special flight carrying 231 evacuees, which arrived at Sardar Patel International Airport here. Among them, 208 were from Gujarat.

    Upon their arrival, Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghavi, greeted the individuals at the airport. Last week, under Operation Kaveri, 56 Gujaratis had returned to Mumbai airport in the first round.

    A medical team was arranged for 10 ailing persons, and 15 additional counters were set up to expedite the immigration process. The government also organised food for the evacuees. A total of 360 Gujaratis have been brought back from Sudan through Operation Kaveri.

    According to MoS Harsh Sanghavi, of the 231 evacuees who landed at SVPI airport, 208 were from Gujarat, 13 from Punjab, and 10 from Rajasthan. He added that the state government, in coordination with the Centre, had arranged for five air-conditioned Volvo buses for those wishing to travel to Rajkot.

    Operation Kaveri: India Brought Home Another Batch Of 229 People From Sudan

    India brought home another batch of 229 people today under its mission ” Operation Kaveri” to evacuate stranded Indians from violence in Sudan. The fresh batch of evacuees arrived in Bengaluru, a day after 365 people returned from the African country to Delhi. “#Operationkaveri One more flight brings back 220 passengers to Bengaluru, “External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar wrote on Twitter. Under the evacuation mission, 754 people arrived in India in two batches on Friday. The total number of Indians who have been brought back home from Sudan now stands at 1,954, according to official data.

    The Indians were brought back from the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah where India has set up a transit camp for the evacuees. The first batch of 360 evacuees returned to New Delhi in a commercial plane on Wednesday. The second batch of 246 Indian evacuees arrived in Mumbai in a C17 Globemaster aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) on Thursday.

    Under “Operation kaveri”, India has been taking its citizens in buses from the conflict zones of Khatoum and other troubled areas to Port Sudan from where they are being taken to Jeddah in the IAF’s heavy lift transport aircraft and the Indian navy’s ships. From Jeddah, the Indians are being brought back home in either commercial flight or IAF’s aircraft.

    India has set up separate control rooms in Jeddah and Port Sudan, and the Indian embassy in Khartoum has been coordinating with them, besides being in touch with the headquarters of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in Delhi.

    Sudan has been witnessing deadly fighting between the country’s army and a paramilitary group that has reportedly left around 400 people dead. Jaishankar announced the launch of “Operation Kaveri” on Monday to bring back stranded Indians from the African country.

    Operation Kaveri: 42 Oriyas return home from war-torn Sudan

    Bhubaneswar: Amidst the ongoing Sudan conflict, around 42 Odias who were stranded in Sudan have been evacuated and returned back to India under “Operation Kaveri”.

    On Friday, atleast six Odias have returned to Bhubaneswar from Delhi via special flight. The evacuated Odias narrated their ordeal and the situation in Sudan.

    They addressed about the hardships they faced in the war-hit country. The war was going on the place where they lived. The were struggling even for food. They also entered their houses,looted them.

    Yesterday, India brought home 754 people under its mission to evacuate stranded Indians from strife-torn Sudan. While 392 people arrived in New Delhi in a C-17 heavy-lift aircraft of the Indian Air Force, another batch of 362 Indians were brought to Bengaluru.

    Under Operation Kaveri, India has been rescuing its citizens in buses from conflict zones in Khartoum and other troubled areas to Port Sudan from where they are being taken to Jeddah in Indian Air Force’s transport aircraft and Indian Navy’s ships.

    “Nearly 2,400 Indians evacuated! INS Sumedha departs from Port Sudan with 300 passengers onboard for Jeddah. 13th batch of Indians evacuated under #OperationKaveri,” Bagchi said in another tweet.

    Minister of State for External Affairs V. Muraleedharan is currently in Jeddah to oversee the evacuation mission.

    Earlier, France and Saudi Arabia evacuated some Indians along with citizens of other countries as part of their evacuation mission from Sudan.

    According to the Indian Embassy in Khartoum, there are around 2,800 Indian nationals in Sudan, in addition to a settled Indian community of around 1,200 people that has been in the country for nearly 150 years.

    Sudan has been on the boil as a result of the ongoing clashes between the army and paramilitary forces. There have been reports of violence and clashes even during the ongoing 72-hour ceasefire.

    There were clashes between soldiers who support Sudan’s army leader Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his deputy, the commander of the paramilitary Rapid Support Soldiers (RSF) Mohamed Hamdan Daglo.

    6 Odisha Natives Narrate Ordeal After Returning From Conflict-Torn Sudan

    Bhubaneswar: These native of Odisha lost their luggage and were robbed at gunpoint before being evacuated from the conflict-ridden Sudan with India launching “Operation Kaveri” with the aim of repatriating all the citizens stranded there.

    Six Odias, hailing from Bhubaneswar, Balasore, Bhadrak and Jagatsinghpur, landed at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here and narrated the near-death experience with local channels on Friday.

    “The clashes between the army and paramilitary forces began on April 15. There was no electricity thereafter and the company somehow managed to arrange two meals a day for us. From April 17 and April 18, locals went on a looting spree. They mostly stole mobiles and dollars at gunpoint,” said Kedar Kumar Nayak, a returnee.

    They then contacted the Indian Embassy and took a bus to Port Sudan from where they sailed in INS Sumedha to India.

    A returnee from Khartoum said that the region was severely ravaged by bullet and bombs. “We could not sleep for nine days as the building would tremble under the impact of the explosions. We even feared going to the canteen on the ground floor,” he said, adding that another Odia who was with the company he worked for will soon land in Odisha.

    Some had even lost hopes of returning to India. “All malls and shops were closed and we also had no money to buy food stuff. We are thankful to the government for having evacuated us from Sudan,” said another returnee.

    Notably, 10th batch with 135 Indian citizens successfully departed from Port Sudan on an IAF C 130J flight, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) informed on Friday morning. They are headed towards Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. INS Sumedha began the operation on Tuesday by transporting the first batch of 278 Indian individuals from Port Sudan to Jeddah.

    According to Indian embassy website, there were around 2,800 Indian nationals in Sudan. There was also a settled Indian community of around 1,200 people – which has been in the country for nearly 150 years.

    NEW DELHI: India on Monday launched ‘Operation Kaveri’ to evacuate its nationals from violence-hit Sudan.

    External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said India’s ships and aircraft are set to bring the Indians back home. ”Operation Kaveri gets underway to bring back our citizens stranded in Sudan. About 500 Indians have reached Port Sudan. More on their way,” Jaishankar tweeted.

    ”Our ships and aircraft are set to bring them back home. Committed to assist all our brethren in Sudan,” he said.

    India on Sunday said it has positioned two transport aircraft of the IAF in the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah and a naval ship at a key port in Sudan as part of its contingency plans to evacuate the stranded Indians.

    The government had on Friday said it was focusing on the safety of over 3,000 Indian citizens presently located throughout Sudan. Sudan has been witnessing deadly fighting between the country’s army and a paramilitary group for the last 11 days that has reportedly left around 400 people dead.
