    KCR plants saplings under Green India Challenge

    Hyderabad: On the occasion of World Environment Day, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Monday participated a sapling under the Green India Challenge (GIC) initiative. CM KCR was accompanied by senior BRS party leader and member of Rajya Sabha, K Keshav Rao, Education Minister, P Sabitha Indra Reddy, Rajya Sabha member, J Santosh Kumar along with other party workers.

    Santosh Kuma, who has taken-up the initiative of promoting the Green India Challenge initiative took to social media platform and thanked KCR.

    “The mentor himself obliged to do the honours on the occasion of #WorldEnvironmentDay. Team #GreenIndiaChallenge overwhelmed by the kind gesture of the father of #HarithaHaaram to plant a sapling today as part of #GIC.     The NSS unit of PU, in collaboration with Boys Hostel-2, organised a tree plantation drive. The event was aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and raising awareness about the importance of tree conservation.

    Researchers awarded

    Researchers of various institutions of higher learning located in Chandigarh and Punjab were awarded the Shiv Nath Rai Kohli Memorial Mid-Career Best Scientist Award, comprising a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh. Awards were presented during the 70th convocation of Panjab University. Dr Neeraj Kumar, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Thapar University, Patiala; Dr Ritesh Agarwal, Department of Pulmonary Medicine, PGIMER; Dr Pavleen Soni, Associate Professor, GNDU, Amritsar, and Dr Neeraj K Singh, Deputy Librarian, PU, were awarded.

    Dental check-up camp organised

    A free dental check-up camp was organised by Sri Sukhmani Dental College & Multi-speciality Hospital, Dera Bassi. A team led by Dr Ramandeep Kaur Sohi, Professor and Head of the Department of Public Health Dentistry, examined over 100 people. Chairman Kanwaljit Singh said the college had latest machines.

    Dev Samaj College of Education, Sector 36, organised its 42nd annual prize distribution function. Amandeep Singh Bhatti, Director Higher Education, UT, awarded degrees to more than 400 students of Bachelor of Education, Master of Education, Postgraduate Diploma in Guidance and Counselling and Post Graduate Diploma in Child Guidance and Family Counselling

    Plantation drive taken up at Kondaveedu Fort

    GUNTUR: All required action is being taken to develop Kondaveedu Fort in Palnadu district into a famous tourist spot in the State, said Palnadu forest department officer N Ramachandra Rao on Tuesday.

    In order to increase awareness of the importance of forest resources, the UN has introduced the Agricultural Organisation of United Nations collaborative partnership on forests relevant organisations in the field.
    As part of it, Nagaravanam was held at Kondaveedu Fort on Tuesday.

    Speaking on the occasion, the Palnadu forest department officer said that several medicinal plants were present in the forest area at Kondaveedu Fort. A large plantation drive has been taken up by the forest department to improve the greenery at the Fort, he added.
