    Masked robbers absconded with loot, cash and jewelery at gunpoint

    Amritsar. The incident of loot has come to light early in the morning in Amritsar. According to information, masked robbers looted the owner of Verka booth at Green Avenue at gunpoint and fled from the spot. The entire incident was recorded in the CCTV cameras installed nearby.

    It is clearly visible in the CCTV footage that two robbers who have covered their faces with saffron colored cloth. One of the robbers has a pistol while the other has a sharp weapon. They point a pistol at the Verka booth owner and decamp with gold jewelery and Rs 10,000 in cash. According to the information, this incident has been executed by 3 robbers. Out of which 2 robbers were carrying out the robbery at gun point. While the third robber was sitting on the bike. As soon as the incident of robbery was executed, all three ran away sitting on the bike.

    This incident happened around 5 in the morning. Vehicles carrying the supply of milk from the Verka Milk Plant reached the Verka booth located at Green Avenue Park. Meanwhile, three masked men reached there riding a motorcycle. The information of this incident has been given to the police. Police is investigating the matter after reaching the spot. The police is also examining the CCTV footage. CCTV cameras installed in the area are also being scrutinized so that some information can be found from the movement and motorcycle of the robbers.

    Punjab Police busted a cross-border smuggling module said to be backed by ISI, Pakistan’s intelligence agency, with the arrest of two of its operatives from Mohali on Wednesday. The accused have been identified as Gurpreet Singh alias Gora from Moga and Rohit Singh from Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan. Police say Gora is a model and singer involved in hawala transactions and allege that he works on the instructions of his Pakistani handlers. The other accused, Rohit Singh, is alleged to have played an active role in collecting drug consignments and operating the network on Indian territory.

    Assistant inspector general Ashwini Kapoor, who is leading the investigation in the case, said that it has come to the fore that Rohit Singh allegedly provided coordinates to Pakistani drug smugglers using which they dropped consignments through drones. AIG Kapoor said because Rohit was aware of the locations near the international borders, he was allegedly sharing coordinates that would help dodge the BSF and local police.

    The senior police official said preliminary investigation suggests that those arrested were key members of a highly-organised cross border smuggling module that had direct links to Pakistan-based drug smugglers. The module was actively involved in the smuggling of contraband across the Indo-Pakistan border, posing a significant threat to national security, he said. During the arrest, police recovered 1.30 bore pistol from the possession of the accused along with live cartridges.

    The Punjab Police has registered an FIR in connection with an alleged security lapse at Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu’s Patiala residence, officials said on Monday.

    On Sunday, Sidhu said a suspicious person, with a grey blanket wrapped around his body, was spotted on the terrace of his residence. He added that the person escaped after a servant raised an alarm.

    CCTV footage of the area is being scanned, he added.

    Taking to Twitter on Sunday, Sidhu said he had spoken to the Punjab Police chief and the SSP of Patiala over the issue.

    “This security lapse will not deter me from raising my voice for Punjab,” he tweeted.

    Chandigarh (ANI): The Punjab Police has canceled the leaves of all policemen in the state till April 14, according to an official statement on Friday.
    An official letter from the office states, “No leave can be sanctioned to GOS, NGO and EPOS till 14.04.2023. All leave sanctioned earlier stands canceled with immediate effect. This w/DGP, Issuing on the instructions of Punjab.” Director General of Police, Punjab.
    Meanwhile, the Punjab Police on Friday urged people not to believe in rumors and fake news about the surrender of radical preacher and Khalistan supporter Amritpal Singh.
    Responding to a media report on Friday, the Punjab Police said in a tweet, “This is a fake news and factually incorrect. Please fact check before sharing. Do not spread rumors and fake news.”
    Waris Punjab D chief Amritpal has been absconding since March 18, the day the Punjab Police started looking for him.
    Amid speculation that the radical preacher is likely to surrender at Amritsar’s Golden Temple, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Law and Order, Parminder Singh Bhandal said last Saturday, “We are constantly working to ensure the safety and security of people in Amritsar.” Right now, we are focusing more on managing the traffic as Baisakhi is round the corner. If Amritpal wants to surrender, we are ready to help him do so as per the law.” (ANI)

    Action on Amritpal Singh: Punjab Police slaps NSA against five people

    CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Police on Monday said it has invoked the stringent National Security Act (NSA) against five people linked to radical preacher Amritpal Singh’s ‘Waris Punjab De’.

    Addressing the media here, Punjab Inspector General of Police (Headquarters) Sukhchain Singh Gill further said the preacher was on the run and efforts were on to nab him.

    He said six FIRs have so far been registered and 114 people arrested in the crackdown against elements of the Waris Punjab De outfit.

    Gill also said that police suspect an “ISI angle” and foreign funding in the matter.

    The NSA has been invoked against five people linked to the outfit, he said in response to a question.

    The stringent law has been invoked against four detenues — Daljit Singh Kalsi, Bhagwant Singh, Gurmeet Singh and Pradhanmantri’ Bajeke, who have been shifted to the Dibrugarh Central Jail in Assam.

    He further said that the NSA has also been invoked against Harjit Singh, who surrendered on Saturday night in Jalandhar.

    Harjit Singh, the uncle of Amritpal Singh, will also be taken to Dibrugarh Central Jail, the police said.

    In the wake of the action against the radical preacher, Gill said police were taking out flag marches in the state and peace committee meetings were being held in all districts.

    There is complete peace in Punjab, he added.

    The official also urged people not to lend ears to rumours and fake news, saying strict action will be taken against those found involved in the same.

    The police on Saturday launched a major crackdown against Amritpal and members of his outfit ‘Waris Punjab De’.

    The elusive preacher, however, gave police the slip and escaped their dragnet when his cavalcade was intercepted in Jalandhar district.

    Amritpal Singh Detained By Punjab Police, Claim Sources; Taken To Undisclosed Location

    Punjab Police on Saturday, March 18 arrested Khalistan sympathiser Amritpal Singh, according to sources. To curb the spread of misinformation, internet services have been suspended till 12 pm on Sunday, March 19 as per the official notification from the Home Affairs department.

    Sources said that Amritpal Singh has been taken to an undisclosed location. He was detained near Jalandhar district’s Nakodar area.

    Sources informed that the Punjab Chief Secretary had sent a report to the Minister of Home Affairs (MHA) last night stating that they would be acting against certain elements for which they demanded assistance from Central forces.

    Sources also informed that apart from Amritpal, at least eight other high-profile individuals have been detained from four districts of the state.

    “All mobile internet services, all SMS services (except banking and mobile recharge) and all dongle services provided on mobile networks, except the voice call, in the territorial jurisdiction of Punjab shall be suspended from 18th March (12:00 hours) to 19th March (12:00 hours) in the interest of public safety,” an official order said.

    Earlier in the day, police had intercepted Amritpal’s cavalcade in Mehatpur village in Jalandhar. Though the ‘Waris Punjab De’ chief managed to escape, six of his aides were learnt to have been detained.

    Some of his supporters shared clips on social media claiming that cops were chasing them. A video also showed Amritpal Singh sitting in a car and one of his associates could be heard saying policemen were after ‘Bhai saab’ (Amritpal).

    Meanwhile, the Punjab Police requested people to maintain peace and harmony. “Request all citizens to maintain peace & harmony. Punjab Police is working to maintain Law & Order. Request citizens not to panic or spread fake news or hate speech,” it said in a tweet.

    Last month, Amritpal and his supporters, some with guns and swords, broke through barricades and barged into the Ajnala Police Station in Amritsar, and clashed with police for the release of one aide of Amritpal.
