    2 dead, 1 critical in bike-tanker head-on collision in Rayagada

    Rayagada: In a tragic incident, two men died and another was critically injured after the bike they traveling in collided with a tanker in Odisha’s Rayagada district. The fatal accident took place near Shankara village under Tikiri police limits of the district.

    The deceased were identified as Maheshwar Majhi of Dengaguda village under Tikiri police station and Udaya Majhi of Kupachal village under Shankara panchayat. The injured has been identified as Suresh Majhi of Dengaguda village.

    According to sources, the three victims of the accident were returning to Tikiri at around 1 am when a tanker loaded with alumina powder collided with the bike. Due to the collision, the tanker and bike burnt on the spot. Reportedly Maheswar and Udaya died on the spot. Meanwhile, Suresh was immediately rushed to the nearby hospital. Suresh’s health condition is said to be stable presently.

    On being informed, Tikiri Fire Department reached the spot and doused the fire. The Tikiri Police along with Rayagada SDPO Devjayati Das arrived and started a probe into the matter.

    Andhra Man Dies After Falling Into Boiling Tar In Odisha’s Rayagada

    Rayagada: A truck driver from Andhra Pradesh died after falling into boiling tar in a plant in Odisha’s Rayagada district on Monday.

    According to sources, the driver, identified as A Krishna Raju, had brought several drums of coal tar from Visakhapatnam to a plant at Durgi Sadar under Bisamkatak police station in the district. The plant has a unit for mixing molten tar on its premises.

    While Raju was pouring the tar from a drum in the truck into the boiling unit, he accidentally slipped and fell into it. As he died in the boiling tar, the plant authorities informed the police.

    A police team from Bisamkatak along with Fire Brigade went to the spot and retrieved Raju’s body from the molten tar. The police have informed Raju’s family about the incident and sent the body for post-mortem. They have also registered a case and started investigation.

    Maoists Call Bandh For Their 12-Point Charter Of Demands In Odisha’s 7 Districts On May 15

    Rayagada: The Maoists have called for bandh in support of their 12-point charter of demands in Odisha’s 7 districts on May 15.

    In an audio release on Friday, the banned outfit has announced that it would enforce bandh in Rayagada, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Kalahandi, Boudh, Gajapati and Nayagarh districts to press its demands. However, essential services including hospital, ambulances, medical stores and examination centres would be exempted from the bandh, it added.

    Their demanded included allotment of houses to deserving beneficiaries under PM Awas Yojana or Biju Awas Yojana in 6 months, free supply of oil, dal, salt along with PDS rice, construction of roads, drinking water supply and power connection to all villages and construction of hospitals in every panchayat.

    Stating that education has been most neglected in the backward areas of these districts, the Maoists demanded establishment of Adarsh Schools in every panchayat, reopening of the schools closed for lack of sufficient number of students, appointment of teachers in vacant posts and monthly scholarship of Rs 3,000 to tribal students.

    Highlighting the unemployment problems in the area, the Maoists demanded payment of monthly unemployment allowance of Rs 3,000, Besides, increasing the old age and widow pension to Rs 3,000 was also demanded by them.

    Bhubaneswar: The Meteorological Centre here today issued an orange warning for rain accompanied by thunderstorms with lightning over 11 districts of Odisha.

    Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph with hailstorms very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Cuttack, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Angul, Boudh till tomorrow morning, informed the weatherman.

    Meanwhile, the people of the above-mentioned districts have been advised to keep watch on the weather and take safe shelter during the thunderstorm activity to protect from lightning and follow traffic advisories in urban areas. Harvesting of Rabi crops may be regulated judicially.

    Likewise, yellow warning for thunderstorms with lighting and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Angul, Boudh, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Kandhamal, Koraput, Rayagada, Nuapada till 8.30 AM tomorrow.

    Similarly, thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the rest districts of Odisha.

    Railway worker killed in road accident in Rayagada

    Rayagada: A railway employee was killed in a fatal road accident near Budrabalsa square of Sadar railway station road in Rayagada district of Odisha.

    The deceased railway employee has been identified as N.Bairagi Rao. According to sources, he was working as an electrical office superintendent in the railway department.

    He reportedly net with the accident while returning to his home in 2nd line of Nehru Nagar after his work.

    The local spotted him by the road and rushed him to the Rayagada main hospital for treatment where the doctor declared him dead.
