    Bhatti all set for grand entry

    Khammam: CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka covered 1,360 km on foot as part of his ‘People’s March’ on Friday. He covered 17 districts and 36 constituencies in the state. He began his padayatra on March 16 from Pippiri in Adilabad.

    The yatra will endat Khammam on July 2.

    To mark his padayatra, Gadarwill unveil a pylon at the entrance of Tallampadu in Khammam district. The party leaders and workers and people are eager to receive the Congress leader in the district.

    During his yatra, TPCC president A Revanth Reddy, senior leaders Madhu Yashki, Mallu Ravi, V Hanumanth Rao and others met Bhatti and expressed solidarity with his campaign. They congratulated as the padayatra was turning a grand success.

    Meanwhile, the leaders of party are busy with making arrangements for the massive public meeting to be addressed by Rahul Gandhi in Khammam on July 2.

    BRS gears up for Telangana Martyrs Memorial Day celebration

    Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi party has decided to celebrate Telangana Martyrs Memorial Day on June 22 on a grand scale and the party MLAs from the city were directed to take up rallies from every constituency.

    A meeting of the party leaders from the city was held at Telangana Bhavan in presence of Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav. On this occasion, the Minister said that the government has been celebrating the 10th anniversary of Telangana State from June 2 to June 22. He explained that as part of the celebrations, special programmes were being organised every day to explain the achievements of the government in various departments to the people.

    The party leaders have been asked to ensure that there are no groups and conflicts between the leaders in the constituencies. The party leaders were asked to utilise the decennial celebrations because the elections were nearing and groupism at this point would give a wrong message to the people. The Corporation persons were asked not to be a spectators but to help the MLAs in the constituencies in gathering the crowd for the programme on June 22.

    Srinivas Yadav said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao would inaugurate the newly constructed Martyrs’ Memorial opposite to the Dr BR Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat.

    Before that, a large number of motorcycles from all the constituencies of the city should reach the 125-feet Ambedkar statue by 4 pm, he directed and added that from there, the BRS party leaders along with activists, artists with drums and thousands of people would reach the martyrs’ memorial in a rally.

    Warangal: Efforts are on to give a rousing welcome to IT, MA&UD Minister K T Rama Rao who is scheduled to visit Warangal on Saturday (June 17), Warangal East MLA Nannapuneni Narender said. Addressing the party cadres here on Thursday, the MLA said that KTR will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate several developmental works worth around Rs 420 crore in Warangal East constituency during his visit. KTR will also address a public meeting, he added.

    Warangal East was one of those backward constituencies in the State before the formation of Telangana due to the ignorance of the erstwhile rulers. Now, the situation is different. Thanks to the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao who put Warangal on the development path, Narender said. So far, the State Government sanctioned Rs 3,800 crore for the development of Warangal East constituency, he added.

    “The Chief Minister is determined to develop Warangal into a health city,” Narender said, referring to the upcoming multi super-speciality hospital, said to be one of the biggest government hospitals in the country. Narender appealed to party leaders to mobilise huge crowds for KTR’s public meeting. Greater Warangal deputy mayor Rizwana Shameem Masood, Corporators and in-charges of all Divisions were among others present.

    In another development, the MLA gave away Rs 2 lakh cheque to the parents of BRS worker Royyala Sai Prasad who died in an accident. Speaking on the occasion, Narender said that the BRS leadership will protect the interests of its cadres. It may be mentioned here that BRS leadership provides Rs 2 lakh to its activists in case of death by accident.

    Karnataka government ready to launch ‘Shakti’ scheme

    Bengaluru: In a move to fulfil one of the promises outlined in the Congress manifesto, the Karnataka government is set to introduce its first ‘guarantee’ scheme. Starting Sunday, June 11, women across the state will be entitled to free travel on government buses. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the scheme in front of Bengaluru’s Vidhana Soudha at 11 am, with implementation scheduled to commence at 1 pm on the same day.

    Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, addressing the press at Vidhana Soudha, expressed the government’s readiness to launch the ‘Shakti’ scheme. He clarified that sleeper and luxury buses would be excluded from the initiative. To avoid any confusion, the government has decided to affix stickers on buses offering free bus services for women.

    “The inauguration of the scheme will take place at Vidhana Soudha, followed by a symbolic journey to Majestic, signifying the green signal for the initiative. The implementation will be rolled out simultaneously across the entire state of Karnataka. Commencing from 1 pm onwards, women will be entitled to enjoy free travel on government buses. It is essential to note that buses lacking the designated stickers will not be eligible for free travel,” Reddy said.

    Additionally, the government has specified that buses traveling outside the state, including sleeper buses (both AC and non-AC), Vayu Vajra, EV Power Plus (AC), Ambari, Airavat, and Flybus, will not be covered by the scheme.

    Furthermore, Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy announced that all beneficiaries must acquire the ‘Shakti Smart Card’ within the next three months. This smart card will facilitate the tracking of the number of women passengers and the distance they’ve travelled. The data collected will be beneficial for reimbursement purposes for Transport corporations.

    When questioned about the possibility of extending the scheme to private buses, especially in coastal regions where the availability of government buses may be limited, the minister said that the government has not yet entertained any proposal in this regard. Currently, the focus of the scheme remains on government buses, and there are no immediate plans to include private bus operators within its purview.

    Guntur: As many as 1,59,144 candidates will write Polycet-2023 to be held on Wednesday at 560 centres in the state. The test will be conducted from 11 am to 1 pm. State Board of Technical Education has made all the arrangements to conduct the examinations. The candidates are directed to report at 10 am at the examination centre.

    Compared to last year, the number of students appearing for the examination has increased by 21,000 due to awareness created by the AP State Board of Technical Education. Vigorous campaigning by all staff of government and private polytechnics explaining the benefits of polytechnic education which is skill-oriented, practical-oriented and job-oriented motivated many students to appear for entrance exams this year. The massive increase in the placements for diploma holders are one of the reasons for increase in candidates for Polycet-2023. Commissioner of Technical Education Chadalavada Nagarani reviewed the arrangements on Tuesday.

    Polycet-2023 free coaching was conducted in 84 government polytechnics from April 16 to May 8 in which 8,987 students attended and study material prepared and distributed free of cost. The coaching material provided was in both English and Telugu versions separately.

    The staff of government and private polytechnics visited almost all the government and private schools throughout the state giving details and advantages of polytechnic education through pamphlets.

    Uppal Skywalk ready for inauguration

    Hyderabad : The Uppal Skywalk built at a cost of Rs 25 crore by the HMDA (Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority) has reached its final stage of completion and is ready for inauguration.

    The Skywalk was designed with the objective for the convenience of the public. Around 1,000 tons of steel has been used to build the pedestrian-friendly facility.

    The project on Uppal Skywalk started at the end of 2020, butwas delayed due to Covid pandemic. It consists of 8 lifts, 6 staircases and 4 escalators and stands at a height of six metres above the ground. It is estimated that more than 20,000 pedestrians cross the road every day on both sides of Uppal. By making the Uppal Skywalk available, the pedestrians crossing the footpath will use the skywalk to allow break-free traffic at the Uppal intersection.

    As per the directions of Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao, Special Chief Secretary, Arvind Kumar was advised to take up new projects keeping in view the development and growing population of Hyderabad East.

    D Srinivas all set to rejoin Congress

    Hyderabad: Veteran leader and former TRS Rajya Sabha MP D Srinivas is set to re-join the Congress party.

    Srinivas played a key role to bring back Congress into power in 2004 and 2009. His son D Arvind is the sitting BJP MP from Nizamabad.

    Once he joins the party, he is going to participate in the ‘Satyagraha’ protest against Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from Lok Sabha, Congress said.

    “Rahul Gandhi is my leader. How can you say that he doesn’t have the eligibility (of being an MP)? Given the sacrifices made by that family & their experience, you can’t question his eligibility. I am joining the party today. I shall be a part of their ongoing protest,” he said, speaking to the media.
