    Bilaspur. Two children died due to drowning in Arpa river in Bilaspur. The children had gone to bathe with their maternal uncle. During this, his maternal uncle made him sit on the bank of the river and went some distance away. Then a child entered the river and started drowning, to save whom a 13-year-old girl entered the river and both got immersed in the depth. The incident is of Kota police station area.

    Luv Kumar Sahu (21), a resident of Laripara village, was going to the Arpa river to take a bath on Saturday. During this, along with his six-year-old nephew Devendra Sahu and his elder brother Lakshya Sahu, along with Bua’s daughter Poonam Sahu (13) also went to bathe. Luv Sahu made all the three children sit on the bank of the river and went some distance to defecate. That’s why Devendra started getting into the water on the banks of the river and went deep. Seeing him drowning, Poonam ran to save him. When she entered the river, the depth was high, due to which both drowned.

    According to the police, Devendra Sahu, a resident of village Samdil of Takhatpur area, has his in-laws’ house at Laripara in Kota. Due to summer vacation in schools, his two sons Devendra Sahu and Lakshya Sahu had come to the maternal uncle’s village. At the same time, Poonam Sahu, a resident of village Bardwar, had also gone to her maternal uncle’s village on leave.

    BHADRAK: AT least three college students drowned in Nalia river near Haripur village within Bhadrak Rural police limits here on Tuesday.

    The deceased were identified as Smruti Ranjan Swain and Rajat Jena of Sridharpur village and Pranaya Lenka of Haripur village. While Smruti and Rajat were Plus Two students in Charampa College, Pranaya was enrolled in a local ITI. All three of them were 17-18 years old.

    Sources said the mishap took place at around 1 pm. Five students including Smruti, Rajat and Pranaya had gone to take bath in Nalia river. While bathing, four of them slipped into deep water and were trapped inside. The fifth student managed to swim to safety and raised an alarm.

    On hearing his screams, villagers working nearby rushed to the spot and jumped into the river. They rescued a student who was clinging on to a floating weed. The other three boys, however, were found unconscious inside the river.

    The students were rushed to the district headquarters hospital, Bhadrak where three of them were declared dead. The fourth student has been admitted to the hospital and his condition is critical, said treating doctor PK Kar.

    Jagatsinghpur: In a tragic incident, three students goes missing while another had a brush with death while taking bath in Devi river near Machagaon under Balikuda block of Jagatsinghpur district today.

    The incident took place when four students belonging to a college in Satyanagar of Bhubaneswar went to the Devi river in Jagatsinghpur to take bath.

    The deceased students were residents of Satyanagar, Bhubaneswar and Ambasala village in Jagatsinghpur.

    It is suspected that due to the strong current of the river, the students were swept away.

    On being informed about the incident, the fire brigade personnel reached the spot and started the rescue operation. Following which, out of the four, one was rescued.

    Dead Body stuffed in sack found from near river, murder suspected

    Puri: In a shocking incident, a woman’s body stuffed in a sack was found in Odisha’s Puri district. The incident has occurred at Chilapatna village under Satyabadi Police station limits of the district.

    Some locals had reportedly gone to the reservoir dam today and spotted the woman’s body inside a sack.

    Soon, a team of cops from Satyabadi Police station reached the spot and seized the body and started an investigation into the matter.

    Police are yet to identify the woman and the reason behind her death. However, from the preliminary probe, they assume it to be a case of murder.
