    Two people died in a road accident in Hazaribagh district

    Hazaribag (Jharkhand), Apr 9 (PTI) At least two persons were killed and 13 others injured in two road accidents in Jharkhand’s Hazaribag district, police said.

    In the first accident, a newly married couple and their family members were proceeding to Barkagaon in a bus from Katkamdag when the driver lost control over the vehicle due to some malfunction and it fell into a roadside ditch, killing a 52-year-old man on the spot and injuring 11 others, a police officer said.

    The injured were admitted to Hazaribag Medical College and Hospital (HMCH), from where the couple, who were critically injured, were shifted to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi.

    In another accident, a 42-year-old man was killed in a head-on collision between two trucks in Barkatha. He was moving towards Kolkata and was coming from Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh.

    Two others were seriously injured in the incident and were admitted to HMCH.

    Balrampur (UP): Six members of a family were killed when the car in which they were travelling collided with an unidentified vehicle here early Saturday, police said.

    The incident took place near Vishambharpur village under Sriduttganj police station, they said. Sonu Shah (28), a resident of Deoria district who worked at a paper mill in Nainital, left for his village with his wife, children and other family members on Friday evening, Superintendent of Police (SP) Keshav Kumar said.

    Early on Saturday morning, the car collided with an unidentified vehicle near Vishambharpur village, killing Shah, his wife Sujavati (25), their children Ruchika (6) and Divyanshi (4), Shah’s brother Ravi (18) and sister Khushi (13) on the spot, the SP said. Six teams have been formed to identify and seize the vehicle that collided with the victims’ car, he added. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination. The family members of the victims were informed and they have arrived here, the police said.

    Eighteen persons were injured when an utility vehicle carrying them rammed into a tree on Jagadhri-Paonta Sahib National Highway near Bhilpura village of Yamunanagar district on Thursday.

    Bhupinder Singh, SHO, Chhachhrauli police station, said 26 persons, including 13 children, had gone to a religious place in Saharanpur district yesterday.

    He said all occupants of the vehicle belonged to the Ghadhauli colony of Yamunanagar.

    He added that when they were returning back, their vehicle collided with a tree near Bhilpura village at about 11.30 am.

    He said the injured persons were rushed to the trauma centre, Yamunanagar where they got treatment.

    Nairobi (IANS)| At least 14 people were killed and several others injured when a university bus and a 14-seater minibus collided on a busy highway in Kenya on Thursday, police said. Rift Valley regional police commander Tom Odero said the bus was carrying about 30 students on their way to a sporting event when the accident happened in Naivasha, about 90 km from Nairobi, Xinhua news agency reported.

    The bus overturned and 14 people died on the spot, Odero told Xinhua. This number may increase. Eyewitnesses said the driver of the Pavani University bus lost control and rammed at least five vehicles before rolling into a gorge.

    Road safety enforcers in Kenya have blamed speeding and drink driving for the increase in road accidents. According to the National Transport and Safety Authority, about 3,000 Kenyans are killed in road accidents annually, despite concerted efforts by the state and the private sector to boost safety on highways.

    Hyderabad: In an unfortunate incident, a motorist died in a road accident involving a bike and auto rickshaw at Rajendranagar on Sunday morning.

    The man Anji (32), sustained injuries after falling from the bike and died on the spot.

    On information the police reached the spot and shifted the body to mortuary. A case is registered and the auto driver taken into custody. The auto is also seized.

    Visakhapatnam: Two persons died on the spot in a road accident that occurred at Valandapeta near Bheemunipatnam.

    The incident happened in the wee hours of Thursday when the driver felt sleepy and had hit the divider and collided with a lorry.

    Two persons travelling in the car died on the spot. They were identified as L Durga Prasad and P Santosh and residents of Srikakulam.

    The bodies were shifted to King George Hospital for postmortem.
