    Sarpanch’s bullying, RTI worker brutally beaten

    Rajim. In village Rawad of Fingeshwar block of Gariaband district, there was fierce scuffle between RTI activist (Soman Sahu) and Sarpanch (Haldhar Sahu) and the case of fight reached Rajim police station. Accusing Sarpanch Haldhar Sahu of assault, RTI activist Soman Sahu told that when he had complained about corruption against the sarpanch in the district. Since then the sarpanch has always been threatening to kill on this matter. On reaching the work going on under MNREGA this morning, the sarpanch hurled abuses at him and thrashed him fiercely.

    Sarpanch Haldhar Sahu reached the police station with hundreds of villagers, rejecting the allegations made by Soman Sahu, on the contrary, accused Soman Sahu (RTI activist) of assault. At present, the Rajim police have registered a case and started investigation, but it remains to be seen whether RTI activist Soman Sahu will get justice in front of Sarpanch’s bullying or not.

  • Bio-diversity Board officials, sarpanch survey Agonda beach

    “If the local biodiversity committee implements projects as guided by the Goa State Bio-diversity Board then tourism at Agonda will only flourish further. It is crucial to protect the land close to the seashore. The Board will extend all the required help,” said Member Secretary of Goa State Biodiversity Board Dr Pradip Sarmokadam on Friday after inspecting the Agonda beach with officials of the biodiversity board.

    Scientist Sujit Desai, guide Varsha, Agonda sarpanch Fatima Rodrigues, panchayat secretary Amol Naik Gaonkar, Shreesthal Bio-diversity Committee Chairman Vinay Turkish, member Shirish Pai, Damodar Chari, and others were present during the inspection visit.

    Sarmokadam then discussed with sarpanch Fatima and officials of the local biodiversity committee and advised them regarding conservation of seashore, sand erosion, landscaping, desilting of the creek and its revival. Other local issues concerning biodiversity were discussed at the meeting too.

    Vijayawada : The State executive body of the Andhra Pradesh Sarpanches Welfare Association demanded the transfer of funds of the 15th Finance Commission and the 5th State Finance Commission into the PFMS accounts of village panchayats immediately.

    The state executive body met its president Chilakalapudi Papa Rao and unanimously passed various resolutions on Thursday.

    Earlier, the executive body members met Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Panchayat Raj Budi Mutyala Naidu at his camp office on Thursday and submitted a copy of the resolutions passed by them in the meeting.

    Addressing the media, Chilakalapudi Papa Rao said that the sarpanches should submit the copy of resolutions to their respective district collectors during the Spandana programme on Monday.

    He said every sarpanch should wear a black badge and stage protest demonstrations from Monday to May 7. They should submit a copy of the resolutions to every Minister, MLA, MP, MLC, and ZP Chairman whoever they meet.

    Papa Rao said that sarpanches will stage a hunger strike near Collectorates on May 8. The Sarpanches association president demanded the Chief Minister provide an appointment to reel out their grievances and find a solution to them. He also demanded a state-level meeting of the sarpanches irrespective of the party affiliations to find a solution to their problems.
