    Seminar on Fulbright-Nehru Fellowship organized

    Visakhapatnam: A seminar on Fulbright-Nehru Fellowship opportunities was organised by GITAM Career Guidance Centre in collaboration with United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF) here on Wednesday.

    Programme manager, India from USIEF Gayatri Singhal explained to the participants about the opportunity process, guidelines while applying for the fellowship. She also informed that USIEF is an initiative of the government of the United States to promote mutual understanding between the US and India through an exchange of outstanding researchers, scholars, professionals and students from academic institutions of eminence.

    As many as 55 faculty and research scholars from Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad and Bangalore participated in this interactive session. Also, they were made aware of other Fulbright Fellowship Opportunities such as Hubert H. Humphrey fellowship programme, Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant programme, Fulbright distinguished awards in teaching programme for international teachers, Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement programme and Fulbright scholar in residence programme. She explained the general prerequisites expected from the applicants for Fulbright-Nehru Fellowship.

    The institution’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences Director and Fulbright Fellowship recipient Nalini Bikkina shared her experiences of being a Fulbright Scholar and the umpteen opportunities.

    Career Options Deputy Director B Ravikanth said they were organising sessions with experts from leading global universities for students to understand and apply for a programme that will help them to have a better career.

    Critical thinking, backed by scientific temperament and technology based-education, is the future of formal education, said Dr Harmohinder Singh Bedi, Chancellor, Central University of Himachal Pradesh, a national seminar on National Education Policy—2020 at DAV College, Amritsar. He discussed how adopting the NEP-2020 would empower both, students and teachers. Dr Bedi and Dr Pratibha Singh, Deputy Advisor, NAAC, New Delhi, were the key speakers at the seminar held by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell, DAV College Amritsar, in collaboration with the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). He said the NEP 2020 is a game-changer that could overhaul the country’s education system by reorienting, redesigning and realigning its processes and outcomes. Dr Pratibha outlined the NEP-2020’s focus on developing rationality, creativity, and critical thinking skills among learners. “It’s a much-needed step after a long gap of 37 years since NPE 1986. The efforts to acknowledge teachers as the catalyst for fundamental reforms is appreciated and its focus are on historically marginalized children,” she said. Dr Amardeep Gupta, Principal DAV College and convenor, in his address, stressed the importance for organising such events.

    Visakhapatnam: As a part of the Jan Bhagidari, a curtain raiser event held here on Monday, Reserve Bank of India, Andhra Pradesh Regional Office organised a seminar on the topic ‘technological transformation in banking- opportunities, issues and challenges’.

    India has assumed the G20 Presidency from December 1, 2022 and will continue till November 30, 2023. Under the ‘Finance Track’ of the Presidency, the Reserve Bank of India is working closely with the ministry of finance in conducting various meetings.

    The G20 Working Group meetings are being held in various cities and are attended by senior officials of G20, Central bank personnel, government officials, and international organisations.

    With the second Infrastructure Working Group Meeting to be held in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday and Wednesday, the events are aimed at taking G20 to the people of India from all walks of life and making it action oriented, which is also reflected in India’s G20 theme ‘VasudhaivaKutumbakam’ (one earth, one family, one future).

    The objective of the seminar was to educate the participating banks about the importance of technology in the banking sector and technological transformations which were taking place in the banking sector, both internationally and locally.

    As a part of this seminar, experts from IDRBT, Hyderabad and HDFC Bank were invited to cover the changing technological landscape in banking industry.

    The speakers shared their own experience with the changing technologies and the way it benefitted a large proportion of the Indian population. They also spoke about the innovations in payment system aided by technology which the Indian banking sector had pioneered. Further, they apprised the participants about looming cyber threats which accompanied the usage of new technologies and the preparedness required to counter such challenges.
