Sourav Ganguly’s Security Cover Upgraded To Z Category

The West Bengal government has decided to upgrade the security cover of former Indian cricket team captain and ex-BCCI president Sourav Ganguly to Z category, a senior official said.

The decision was taken on Tuesday following the expiry of the tenure of Y category security provided to Ganguly.

“As the security cover of the VVIP expired, a review was done as per the protocol and it was decided to raise Ganguly’s security cordon to Z category,” he said.As per the new security arrangement, the former cricketer will have 8 to 10 police personnel guarding him, the official said.

Under the Y category security cover, Ganguly used to get three policemen from the Special Branch in his cordon and an equal number of law enforcers guarding his Behala residence.

On Tuesday, representatives of the state secretariat reached Ganguly’s Behala office where they held a meeting with officers from Kolkata Police headquarters Lalbazar and the local police station, he added.

“Ganguly is currently travelling with his team Delhi Daredevils and will return to Kolkata on May 21. He will start getting Z category security from that very day,” the official said.

Virat Kohli unfollowed Sourav Ganguly on Instagram: Report

New Delhi (IANS) | Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batsman and former India captain Virat Kohli has reportedly unfollowed Delhi Capitals (DC) mentor and former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly on Instagram. Earlier on Saturday, RCB defeated DC by 23 runs at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. During that time Saurabh Ganguly was avoiding shaking hands with Kohli.

In a video circulating on social media from Saturday’s game, Ganguly was seen stepping out of line to avoid shaking hands with Kohli during the handshake.

Earlier, Kohli has tendered his resignation as India’s T20 captain. Kohli was then dropped as the captain of the ODI team during Ganguly’s tenure as the BCCI president.

Kohli then made a surprising revelation at a press conference during India’s tour of South Africa in 2021 that there was no communication between him and the selection committee about the change in ODI leadership and he was asked to leave just minutes before the selection meeting for the Test series. It was reported hours ago that the selectors had decided that he would not be the captain.

Kohli had refuted Ganguly’s statement and said that the selectors had already informed him about the change on the captaincy issue.
