    IIT-Madras student commits suicide

    A second-year undergraduate student of IIT-Madras died by suicide here on Friday, police said.

    The student was found hanging in his hostel room on the campus, a police officer said and added a case has been registered and a probe is on.

    “He did not respond and then the hostel room’s door was broken open and he was found hanging,” the officer said.

    Preliminary probe indicated that the deceased student may have had some issues arising out of him being in love with a woman, the officer said.

    On March 14, a third-year B-Tech student of IIT-Madras died by suicide. A post-graduate student of engineering of IIT-M also died by suicide on February 14. He too had been found dead in his hostel room. There have been similar suicides in the past.

    The IIT-Madras, which conveyed its condolence to the bereaved, said: “We are deeply anguished to convey the untimely passing away of an undergraduate student from the Chemical Engineering Department in the afternoon of 21 April 2023 in his hostel room. The Institute has lost one of its own, and the professional community has lost a good student. The reason for the demise is unknown. Police are investigating. The parents have been informed.”

    The Institute said it is taking all possible measures to proactively identify and help students under stress. “We will continue to keep strengthening these measures.”

    The suicide of Sub Inspector couple in Jangaon district has created a stir. It is learned that the Sub Inspector took the final plunge following the the death of his wife by suicide. Going into the details, Kasarla Srinivas is working as a Sub Inspector in Jangaon town and resides in Venkannakunta with his wife Swaroopa.

    However, the Sub Inspector’s wife Swaroopa went into the bathroom and hanged herself on Thursday morning After waking up in the morning, Srinivas went to the bathroom and found his wife’s body hanging from the window sill.

    When this matter came to be known, the relatives and friends of SI Srinivas came to the house and visited him. Janagaon ACP and CI also came to SI’s house and consoled him. But he could not contain his grief and was deeply saddened by the death of his wife. SI Srinivas, who was crying till then, went to the washroom for a while. He shot himself there with a service revolver.

    The reasons for the suicide nare not yet known while the police are investigating the incident. The dead bodies of the SI couple were shifted to the Janagaon Government Hospital.

    Rangareddy: The residents of Devarampalli village in Chevella woke up to a shock as three members of the same family founding hanging in their house. It is said that the family members reportedly committed suicide by hanging.

    The incident took place in Devarampalli village of Chevella on Tuesday. The police reached the spot and on preliminary information, it is said that the deceased were identified as Ummethala Ashok, his wife Ankitha and their two -year-old daughter.

    The bodies were shifted government hospital for post-mortem. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway. The police are yet to ascertain the reason behind the suicide. They are also interrogating on any angle of murder.

    Dalit youth commits suicide in Kurnool

    Kurnool: A youth who belongs to Dalith community consumed pesticide in an attempt to commit suicide. The reasons behind taking the extreme step is known that he was kicked and insulted by the upper caste people.

    The Dalith who has been identified as Mallepogu Narahari was rushed to Nandyal Government general hospital for treatment. The incident took place at Munagala village In Nandyal mandal on Wednesday late night.

    According to information, the villagers with utmost devotion were celebrating Ugadi festival by offering prayers to village Goddess Sunkulamma. Mallepogu Narahari who belong to SC Madiga community has gone to offer prayers after breaking a coconut to the village Goddess.

    But before Narahari entering into the temple, one Jambulaiah, who is known to be the gunman of Nandyal DSP, his son Maruthi and Nephew Subbaiah, opposed him and insulted by taking his caste. The gunman and the other two people also kicked with legs besides giving a stern warning of taking dire steps if dare to repeat the incident.

    Narahari who was greatly insulted by the act of Jambulaiah, Maruthi and Subbaiah immediately returned to his house and consumed pesticide. His parents on learning the extreme to step taken by Narahari rushed to Nandyal Government general hospital for treatment. His health condition is stated to be critical.
