Tamil Nadu: Governor approves bill to ban online gambling

Chennai (IANS) | Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi on Monday approved a bill to ban and regulate online gambling. Earlier on Monday itself, the assembly had passed a resolution requesting the President and the central government to direct the governor to give assent to the bills passed by the assembly within a specific time frame.

The bill was first passed in the assembly in October last year, but was returned to the government by the governor in March this year.

A senior Raj Bhavan official had said at the time that the bill was returned because the state assembly did not have the power to legislate in this regard.

After this, the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly again approved it on March 23, 2023 and sent it for the Governor’s approval.
