Telangana: Funds deposited for facilities in Urdu medium schools allegedly recalled

Urdu-medium schools in the state are facing a dire situation as they lack basic facilities and suffer from a shortage of teachers. The government’s negligence in addressing these issues has resulted in numerous problems for students studying in Urdu medium government schools.

In an attempt to improve the conditions, the Telangana Urdu Academy released a sum of Rs 1.66 crore to each Urdu medium school on May 23 for the academic year 2023-24. The funds were intended for providing basic facilities in 333 Urdu medium government schools across the state, including water and toilet facilities. The Urdu Academy issued special orders for this purpose.

However, the situation took a sudden turn when the funds, which had been deposited in the bank accounts of the headmasters by the District Treasury through RTGS at 11:30 AM, were reportedly recalled by the state (SSA) body before 5 PM on the same day. This unexpected withdrawal of funds has become a subject of discussion in the state, leaving Urdu medium schools in a state of disarray.

It is noteworthy that the condition of Urdu medium schools has deteriorated ever since Urdu was granted the status of the second official language in the state. To exacerbate the situation further, the funds that were deposited in the bank accounts were swiftly withdrawn within a span of six hours, much to the dismay of Urdu medium teachers.

Upon contacting SSA officials, it was stated that if there are any issues or errors in the bank accounts, the funds are automatically returned. This explanation, however, has left many Urdu medium teachers perplexed and concerned about the sudden withdrawal of funds released by the Urdu Academy for the improvement of basic facilities in their schools, without any given reason.

Expressing his apprehension, Iftikharuddin, President of the teachers’ body STU, Hyderabad, urged senior SSA officials to promptly redeposit the funds released by the Urdu Academy into the bank accounts of the selected Urdu medium schools’ headmasters. He emphasized the need for transparency and immediate action to address the plight of Urdu medium schools and ensure the availability of necessary resources for their proper functioning.

Telangana Brahmin Samkshema Parishad hails CM

After being neglected by successive governments in the past, the Brahman community hailed Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao for the initiatives being taken up by Telangana government for welfare of the community.

People from the community faced several hardships and there was a time, many could not even perform marriages of their daughters and ensure proper education to their children.

After formation of the State, the Telangana government introduced Vivekananda Overseas Education Scheme providing Rs.20 lakh assistance, said Telangana Brahmin Samkshema Parishad Member Joshi Gopala Sharma here on Friday.

This apart, under the Brahmin Entrepreneurial Scheme of Telangana, assistance is being extended to people from the community to set up small scale industries. No other State was implementing such welfare programmes for the Brahmin community in the country, he said, adding perhaps Telangana was the only place where aged veda or shastra pandits were being extended monthly honorarium of Rs.2,500.

“In the past due to water scarcity in reservoirs, Telangana people had to visit Vijayawada for Krishna Pushkaralu and Rajahmundry for Godavari Pushkaralu. Now, we either go to Beechupally or Basara. There is no dearth of water,” said Gopala Sharma.

Apart from setting up Veda Patashalas, the State government constructed Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple, Yadadri.

Telangana: Rythu Bima provides relief for 16,601 families in erstwhile Mahabubnagar

Mahabubnagar: Rythu Bima, the unique group life insurance scheme for farmers in the State launched by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, has proved to be a boon for farmers’ families in the erstwhile Mahabubnagar district. It has come as a major source of financial relief to families bereaved by farmers’ untimely deaths.

According to officials, insurance claims worth Rs 830.35 crore have been settled so far covering around 16,601 farmers’ families in the erstwhile Mahabubnagar district since the launch of the scheme in August 2018, with each family receiving Rs 5 lakh.

Susheelamma from Jammiched, Gadwal district, who received assistance from the government said: “The scheme introduced by the Chief Minister has been a huge help to our family. My husband passed away less than five years ago, and we were struggling to make ends meet. But thanks to the income from the scheme, we were able to get my daughter married and build a house. We are now able to cultivate crops on our three acres of land, and we are very grateful to CM KCR for introducing such a helpful scheme.”

In the past, government schemes were often not delivered to the intended beneficiaries because of middlemen. These middlemen would take a cut of the benefits, leaving less for the beneficiaries. In order to ensure that farmers’ families received the full benefits of government schemes, the Chief Minister has taken steps to deposit the money directly into the nominee’s account. This has eliminated the need for middlemen and ensured that the benefits go directly to the people who need them most, officials said.
