  • Sunkishala needs no DPR, says Telangana

Sunkishala needs no DPR, says Telangana

Hyderabad: Telangana has decided to stick to its stance that the Sunkishala intake well project requires no further clearances.

The Sunkishala intake well project, taken up by the State government with a view to meeting the future drinking water needs of people living in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits and Hyderabad urban agglomeration area, was strongly defended by Irrigation authorities from the State at the 17th meeting of the Krishna River Management Board on Wednesday.

Officials representing Andhra Pradesh had opposed drawal of Krishna water from the project on the plea that it was taken up without the mandatory approval from the Central Water Commission, the KRMB and the Apex Council. They also alleged that its detailed project report (DPR) was not submitted for the consideration of the board.

However, Special Chief Secretary (Irrigation) Rajat Kumar clarified that the intake well was taken up keeping the long term needs of Hyderabad city. The Sunkishala pumping scheme was intended to draw water even at levels lower than 510 ft in NSP reservoir. Till now one pump of the AMRSLBC was catering to these needs and now it would be left for irrigation as the scheme would take care of the future needs of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board.

There was no need for submitting the DPR as it was meant for drawing drinking water. The present water requirement for Hyderabad was 37 TMC and it would go up by 10 to 11 TMC by 2035, Telangana officials pointed out.

The Sunkishala project, which will ensure adequate drinking water even if there is no proper monsoon for five years, is also aimed at addressing the water requirement for industrial consumption in Hyderabad and its vicinities. Water is currently being supplied to the city and its surroundings by drawing from Krishna, Godavari, Manjira and Singur sources. The Sunkishala project is in order to have permanent and independent arrangements for the existing Krishna Drinking Water Supply Project schemes

The KRMB, which met here on Wednesday, had decided to seek the intervention of the Jal Shakti Ministry to hammer out a final agreement on water sharing acceptable for both the States. The board earlier decided to do away with the ad hoc water sharing arrangement laid down nine years ago, and instead go for a need-based sharing of water between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

A three-member committee comprising the Board’s Member Secretary and engineers-in-chief of the two States would monitor water sharing basing on the indents placed by the respective States and water availability, with this interim pattern to be in place for the initial months of the new water year beginning from June 1.

  • Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will reach Telangana on May 8 for public meeting

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will reach Telangana on May 8 for public meeting

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will reach the city on Monday to address a public meeting to highlight the issue of unemployment in Telangana, her first rally in the state after taking charge as AICC general secretary.
The party said it will also release the ‘Hyderabad Youth Declaration’ at the ‘Yuva Sangharsh Sabha’ to be held at Saroor Nagar Stadium here on Monday evening.
The Youth Declaration is expected to be on the lines of the Kisan Declaration issued by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Warangal.
Telangana Congress senior vice-president and former MP Mallu Ravi told PTI that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra attending the meeting would instill “confidence” among lakhs of unemployed youth and students in the state.
He said that the unemployed youth and students are desperate due to the alleged leak of question papers of the recruitment examinations conducted by the State Public Service Commission (TSPSC).
He said the ‘Youth Declaration’ will include the party’s promises to the youth and students about large scale employment generation, unemployment allowance etc.
Congress has already protested against the TSPSC paper leak issue at various places in Telangana in April under the leadership of state unit president and MP A Revanth Reddy.
“We are sure she (Priyanka Gandhi Vadra) will inspire youth, women, farmers, all sections of society,” Ravi said.
The Congress hopes that Priyanka Vadra’s public rally will give a boost to the party as it seeks to revive its fortunes in the state.
With an aim to revive its prospects in the state, the Congress is reaching out to the people in various forms.
While Revanth Reddy has undertaken a ‘padayatra’ after the conclusion of Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka has been undertaking a ‘padayatra’ for the last 50 days.
The Congress has suffered a setback in Telangana despite the Manmohan Singh-led UPA government realizing its demand for a separate state in 2014.
Apart from losing the Legislative Assembly elections in 2014 and 2018, the Congress has also fared poorly in Assembly bypolls and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections held during the last few years.
Besides this, the party has given ground to the BJP which has won two assembly bypolls and the GHMC elections impressively.
Buoyed by its performance, the BJP is aiming to emerge as an alternative to the ruling BRS.

Telangana Social Welfare Residential Boys School in Bellampalli in Mancherial, is a Centre of Excellence (CoE) with its students competing with those of corporate schools and getting seats in national-level institutions like Delhi University, IITs, NITs and others.

The State government established the school in 2014-15 for students from Class 5 to SSC. In 2018-19, the school was upgraded to junior college as well as a Centre of Excellence, making it the second CoE in the erstwhile Adilabad district after the one in Adilabad town. Bellampelli CoE has now achieved its own identity at the state level with its students getting seats in national-level institutions.

    Remarkable performance
In fact, such is their performance that between the academic year 2019-20 and 2021-22, as many as 100 students have been selected for various national-level institutions for higher education.

This is remarkable considering the fact that 202 students appeared for entrance examination conducted by institutions like Delhi University, IIT, NIT, Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) Thiruvananthapuram, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Punjab, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Gwalior, Central Institute of Fisheries Nautical and Engineering Training (CIFNET) in Kochi and others. Two students got seats in medical college and are now studying MBBS.

In the academic year 2019-20, 63 students wrote the entrance examination for higher education of whom 30 got seats. In 2020-21, another 65 students appeared for the entrance of whom 31 got seats and in 2021-22, 37 of the 74 students who wrote entrance exams got seats. Praveen Chunarkar, a third-year student of the NIT-Trichy, says that initially, he did not expect to get a seat but with the encouragement of his teachers and hard work, he got into the prestigious institution.

Durgam Ranjith is doing engineering in NIT-Warangal. He too says that most of the students never expected to achieve such goals but hard work and dedication helped them. CoE principal Inala Saidullu says that such performance by the students is a matter of pride.

“We identify the abilities and interests of our students and encourage them to work hard in their chosen field. Getting seats in such prestigious institutions is not easy. We also organise special classes and our faculty and students work hard to achieve their goals,” Saidullu said.

He reveals that in the academic year 2022-23, as many as 18 of the 32 students who wrote the entrance exam have got an opportunity to write the IIT advance eligibility test.

Wife of slain IAS officer appeals to PM Modi after ex-Bihar MP comes out of jail

Telangana: The wife of District Magistrate G. Krishnaiah, who was murdered by the gangster-turned-politician Annand Mohan Singh, appealed to President Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday to step in and ask Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to send him back to jail. She objected to his release from Bihar’s Sharsa jail.
Anand Mohan Singh, a gangster-turned-politician, was released from Bihar’s Saharsa jail early on Thursday morning after the state government of Bihar amended the prison rules to permit the release of 27 prisoners, including him.
She criticised the Bihar government’s decision to free the murderer who had been sentenced to death by the trial court but had later had his sentence reduced to life in prison by the Patna High Court as being “wrong” and added that the Chief Minister shouldn’t “encourage these types of things.”

“The public will protest against Anand Mohan’s release and demand that he be taken back into custody. Choosing to release him was a mistake. These kinds of actions shouldn’t be encouraged by CM. The public should abstain from voting for him in future elections. I appeal to you to put him back behind bars,” she pleaded.
The deceased IAS officer’s daughter, Padma, demanded Nitish Kumar rethink his choice and requested the state government to reconsider its decision. The deceased IAS officer’s daughter, Padma, demanded Nitish Kumar to rethink his choice and requested the state government to reconsider its decision.
According to Padma, the family will file an appeal in opposition to the government’s decision. It is unjust to the entire country as well as one family. We will appeal this ruling, she declared.
He was incarcerated for life for killing former Gopalganj District Magistrate G Krishnaiah in 1994. An official announcement indicated that 27 criminals who had served 14 or 20 years in prison had been ordered to be released after the Bihar Government changed the provisions of the jail manual.
Anand Mohan Singh’s release from the Bihar prison of Saharsa was warmly celebrated by his supporters. He had previously been granted a 15-day parole to attend his MLA son Chetan Anand’s engagement party. After his parole time expired on April 26, he went back to Saharsa prison.
On December 5, 1994, in Muzaffarpur, Anand Mohan assassinated Gopalganj District Magistrate G Krishnaiah. A crowd believed to have been incited by Anand Mohan Singh assassinated Krishnaiah. He was pulled from his company car and lynched.
G Krishnaiah was an IAS officer from the 1985 batch who was born in Mahbubnagar in modern-day Telangana.
In 2007, a trial court handed down a death sentence to Anand Mohan. The Patna High Court commuted the punishment to life in jail a year later. Mohan subsequently appealed the decision to the Supreme Court, where he has stayed since 2007 without receiving any remedy.
On Wednesday morning, the state prison administration freed approximately 14 prisoners from the state’s various facilities.
