    Two cousins died due to electrocution

    Thane: In a tragic incident, two cousins lost their lives due to electrocution in Badlapur area. According to the statement of a police officer of Badlapur police station, the incident took place on Saturday night at a farmhouse when the brothers were cleaning the chicken coop.
    Senior Police Inspector A.M. Giving information, Kshirsagar of Badlapur police station said, “Two cousins living in Dhawale village area near Vangani had gone to the farmhouse for some work. Unfortunately, when Jayesh touched the door, he got an electric shock, which caused the lightning to spread. Kumar Biker (17), who ran to save Jayesh, also got electrocuted and both of them died instantly. However, the third cousin who came to his rescue escaped with minor injuries.”
    Kshirsagar said, “Kumar’s father had taken charge of the farmhouse in Dhawale village. The incident took place during the maintenance and cleaning work of the farmhouse. An accidental death report (ADR) has been registered in the matter.”

    Police crack murder case after 20 years, arrest victim’s evasive friend from Thane

    Mumbai: The Santa Cruz police on Saturday claimed to have solved a murder case registered 20 years ago. Joint Commissioner of Police (law and order) Satyanarain Chaudhary told newspersons that on March 31, 2003 Deepak Rathod (23), a textile trader from Delhi, and his friend Rupesh Rai alias Atul Kedia (42) had checked into Hotel Nest opposite Vile Parle (W) railway station. Both had come to Mumbai to make textile purchases. At night they had an argument following which Rai allegedly stabbed Rathod several times with a knife found in the hotel room, covered him with a bedsheet and fled after taking the victim’s bag containing ₹1,30,000 in cash. Around 10 a.m. when a housekeeping attendant Dinkar Shetty knocked on the room there was no response. He then opened the room with a masterkey and found Rathod lying on a pool of blood on the bed.

    12 failed attempts to nab culprit by police

    The only clue the police had was that the suspect was from Muzaffarnagar in Bihar. Different police teams visited Muzaffarnagar as many as 12 times, but returned empty handed. The police then made an application to the court to close the case.
    Assistant Police Inspector Tushar Sawant and the crime detection unit of the Santa Cruz police recently received confidential information from their sources about the wanted accused. The team went to Muzaffarnagar and made discreet inquiries following which it came to know that the suspect was working in a sweet shop at Majiwada, Thane, from where he was picked up. During interrogation the accused reportedly confessed to the murder.

    He is now remanded to police custody. During the past 20 years he lived under assumed names in different states doing odd jobs.
    Chaudhary and Additional Police Commissioner (west region) Paramjit Singh Dahiya felicitated Sawant and his team for the excellent detection.

    Thane. A case has been registered against five people for giving fake documents to get jobs in the police department in Maharashtra’s Thane district. An official gave this information on Friday. He told that no one has been arrested in the case so far.
    The official said that the accused appeared for the department’s physical and written test and were called to submit documents for verification before posting. According to the in-charge of Kashimira police station, during the verification, it came to light that the five had given fake certificates to get admission in the police force.
    He told that a case has been registered against the five under sections 420 (cheating) and 468 (forgery) of the Indian Penal Code and other related sections. The officer said that the police is also trying to find out how the documents were made so that the gang involved in such cases can be exposed.

    Two arrested for smuggling ivory worth Rs 1.50 crore in Thane

    Thane : The Thane crime branch unit 5, on Thursday, April 27 arrested two persons for smuggling elephant tusks worth ₹1.50 crore. The pieces of ivory seized weighed 2 kg each.

    Assistant police inspector from Thane crime branch unit-5 Bhusan Shinde received a tip-off that two men were coming to sell the elephant tusks at Kopri Naka in Anandnagar in Thane on Thursday. Soon after receiving the tip a team of officials led a nab at Anandnagar and arrested two accused aged 42 and 35 respectively.

    Vikas Ghodke, senior police inspector, Thane crime branch unit-5 said, ” The assistant police inspector received a tip-off about two persons were coming to sell the elephant tusks. Under my guidance, a team were formed and we arrested the accused from Anandnagar in Thane. The accused have been identified as Mohammad Rafi Ibrahim Sayed (41) a resident of Tamilnadu and Rahim Badshah Khan (35) a resident of Andheri (West).”

    Accused were hoping to earn quick bucks by selling ivory

    Ghodke further added, “Both the accused were hoping to earn quick bucks by selling ivory. The weight of both the ivory is around 2 kg and the market rate of it is ₹1.50 crore. Tusks are used for making showpieces, ornaments and other decorative items. They are also believed to have medicinal properties. We will also find out whether more people are connected with the accused. We have seized the ivory from them. The Thane crime branch unit-5 assistant police inspector Bhushan Shinde and his team will be further investigating the case.”

    “The case has been registered against both the accused under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 under sections 9, 39, 44, 49 (A), 49 (B), 50 and 51. Both have been remanded to police custody till 6th May” said Ghodke.

    Two women held under POCSO Act for forcing minors into flesh trade

    Thane: The Anti-Human Trafficking Cell (AHTC) in Thane, on Thursday, arrested two women for allegedly pushing two minor girls into flesh trade. The women were apprehended at Anil Palace Lodging and Boarding in Kalyan.

    Senior police inspector Mahesh Patil said a tip-off was received from social activist Binu Varghese that the women were bringing in two girls aged 17 years to sell for Rs1.5 lakh each.

    A trap was laid with a decoy customer at the lodge and the girls were rescued. The arrested women have been identified as Anju Sisodia and Sonia Sisodia, both 35 years old and residents of Koparkhairane in Navi Mumbai.

    On interrogation, they said they got involved in flesh trade as they had no source of income. The Mahatma Phule Chowk police station in Kalyan has registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
