Modi hails ‘The Kerala Story’ in Karnataka

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday cited the controversial movie ‘The Kerala Story’ while addressing a rally in Karnataka’s Ballari ahead of the assembly elections on May 10.

“‘The Kerala Story’ film is based on a terror conspiracy and is based on what happens in that beautiful state. It shows the ugly truth of terrorism and exposes terrorists’ design. Congress is opposing the film made on terrorism and standing with terror tendencies Congress has shielded terrorism for the vote bank,” said BJP’s Modi.

“I am surprised to see that Congress has succumbed to terrorism for the sake of its vote bank. Can such a party ever save Karnataka? In the atmosphere of terror, the industry, IT industry, agriculture, farming and glorious culture here will be destroyed .Security system, law and order is the most important requirement to make Karnataka number one state of country. It is equally important for Karnataka to remain free from terrorism.BJP has always been tough against terrorism. But Congress gets stomach ache whenever action is taken on terrorism,” said PM Modi.

Meanwhile, the Kerala High Court on Friday refused to stay the release of the controversial multi-lingual film ‘The Kerala Story’ and said the trailer does not contain anything offensive to any particular community as a whole.

A bench of Justices N Nagaresh and Sophy Thomas noted the submission made by the producers that they do not intend to retain an ”offending teaser” which contained a statement that ”32,000 women” from Kerala were converted and joined a terrorist organization .

Justice Nagaresh, who dictated the order said that going through the trailers of the movie, “we find that the trailer does not contain anything offensive to any particular community as a whole.” ) has examined the movie and found that it is suitable for public exhibition.

The Kerala High Court also noted that the producers have published a disclaimer along with the movie which specifically says that the film has fictionalized and is a dramatized version of events and that the film doesn’t claim accuracy or factuality of historical events. ”In view of the disclaimer also, we are not inclined to pass an interim order restraining the respondents from exhibiting the film as such. In view of the above and taking into consideration the statement made by the producer that the producer does not intend to retain the offending teaser in their social media handles, no further orders are necessary in this petition at this stage,” the court said. The High Court was hearing a batch of petitions which sought to set aside the certificate for public display given to the movie by the Censor board among other pleas including to ban it.

The petitions contended that the movie “falsely portrayed” certain facts which had resulted in “insulting” the people of Kerala, and sought a stay on the movie’s impending release.

‘The Kerala Story’ starring Adah Sharma was released in cinemas on Friday and is portrayed as “unearthing” the events behind “approximately 32,000 women” allegedly going missing from Kerala.

According to the CPI(M) and the Congress in Kerala, the film falsely claims that 32,000 women got converted and radicalised, and were deployed in terror missions in India and the world.

Cinema is an art in which shows the real issues faced by society”, he said.

Mahesh added, “This movie is talking about love jihad which has been discussed over 20 years and also about forced conversions. “Congress is opposing the film made on terrorism and standing with terror tendencies. Congress has shielded terrorism for the vote bank”, PM Modi said. Meanwhile, the Kerala High Court on Friday refused to issue a stay order on the release of the film ‘The Kerala Story’.

Asserting that secular Kerala society will accept the film for what it is, the High Court today asked petitioners how the movie, which it observed is fiction and not history, would create sectarianism and conflict in the society. “Nothing will happen just because the film is screened. The teaser of the film was released in November. What was offensive in the film? What is wrong in saying that Allah is the only God? The country gives the citizen the right to believe in their religion and God and spread it. What was offensive in the trailer?”, the court observed.

Helmed by Sudipto Sen and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, the film has triggered a massive political row with various leaders reacting to the upcoming movie. ‘The Kerala Story’ stars Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani and Sonia Balani in the lead roles. The trailer of Sen’s film ‘The Kerala Story’ came under fire as it claimed that 32,000 girls from the state went missing and later joined the terrorist group, ISIS.

Faced with backlash the makers then withdrew the figure and called the movie the story of three women from Kerala, in its trailer description.

New Delhi. Shalini Unnikrishnan… A girl from Kerala who leaves home with a dream in her eyes to become a nurse and serve the people. But it was not known when hijab, religion, jihad became a part of her life during training. She herself was no longer Shalini, she was made Fatima. In this way, the mission of a girl completely trapped in the clutches of ISIS turned from service to terror. This is the story line of the film ‘The Kerala Story’, released on May 5, whose teaser has just laid the foundation of a new controversy across the country.

The Kerala Story claims that 32,000 Hindu and Christian girls from Kerala were forcibly converted and sent out of the country to join ISIS. Controversy is increasing the most regarding this fact and story of the film. Other parties including the Congress are also making allegations about this and saying that this film is just an agenda and through this an attempt is being made to spoil the harmony. On the other hand, on Sunday, senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor tweeted that ‘It may be ‘your’ Kerala story. It is not ‘our’ Kerala story. Tharoor said that it may be the story of your Kerala, it is not the story of our Kerala.

CM Vijayan has also expressed opposition
Even before Shashi Tharoor, many other leaders have also opposed the teaser of the film. The film releasing on 5 May 2023 is produced by Sudipto Sen. Vipul Amritlal Shah is its producer and creative director. On Sunday, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan commented on the makers of ‘The Kerala Story’. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that issues like love jihad have been dismissed by the courts, investigative agencies and even the Union Home Ministry. Vijayan said that prima facie the trailer of the film appears to be ‘deliberately produced’ with the alleged objective of creating communal polarization and spreading hatred against the state. He said that despite this, Kerala has been shown as the main base of the film to humiliate the state in front of the world.
The film has also come under attack from Congress and CPI(M)
CM Vijayan said that ‘such propaganda films and the hatred towards Muslims shown in them should be seen in the context of Sangh Parivar’s efforts to gain political mileage in Kerala. He also accused the Sangh Parivar of trying to destroy religious harmony in Kerala and “sowing poisonous seeds of communalism”. A few days ago, both the ruling CPI(M) in Kerala and the opposition Congress hit out at the controversial upcoming film, saying the license to spew venom denied freedom of speech and that the film was trying to destroy the communal harmony of the state. There is an effort.
FIR instructions on the teaser of the film
The DGP of Kerala has directed the Commissioner of Police, Thiruvananthapuram City to register an FIR on the teaser of the film ‘The Kerala Story’. The order to register an FIR has been given after a complaint was sent to the CM. The High Tech Crime Inquiry Cell conducted a preliminary inquiry into the matter and has sent its report to the DGP. According to information, a journalist from Tamil Nadu wrote a letter to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan after watching the teaser of the film ‘The Kerala Story’. The journalist had requested the Kerala government to summon the film’s director and investigate the veracity of the teaser, which claimed that 32,000 girls from Kerala were forcibly converted to Islam, who later joined the terrorist group ISIS.

CM lashes out at the movie ‘The Kerala Story’; calls it propaganda of the Sangh Parivar

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The movie ‘The Kerala Story’ furthers the propaganda of the Sangh Parivar by portraying Kerala, which is the land of secularism, as the epicenter of religious terrorism, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said.

Cautioning people of the state to be wary of attempts to spread unrest in society through propaganda, the Chief Minister warned of legal action against any such ‘anti-social’ acts.

The teaser of the movie ‘The Kerala Story’, written and directed by Sudipto Sen, was released recently. The film claims close to 32,000 women allegedly went missing in Kerala and that they converted, got radicalised, and were deployed in various terror missions.

“It is only deliberate that the movie is based on ‘Love Jihad’, a claim that was rejected by investigative agencies, courts, and the Union Home Ministry. This is done by the Sangh Parivar to demean Kerala before the world, destroy its secular atmosphere and sow the seeds of communalism,” the Chief Minister said in a Facebook post.

Pinarayi said the Sangh Parivar has come up with a movie based on falsehood as its politics was not fruitful in Kerala. The movie’s teaser puts out a huge lie that 32,000 women from Kerala were converted and enrolled in Islamic State. This is nothing but a false story produced in the Sangh Parivar factory of lies, he said.

“People who use cinema to create divide and factionalism in society cannot be justified in the name of creative freedom,” Pinarayi said. He added that creative freedom does not mean the license to communalise society and spread lies.

The ruling CPI(M) and opposition Congress in the state had earlier lashed out against the controversial upcoming movie, calling it an attempt to destroy the communal harmony of the state.
