Turkish evacuation plane fired upon in Sudan

Ankara (IANS) | Turkey’s defense ministry said on Friday that its rescue plane was fired upon upon arrival in conflict-torn Sudan, although there were no reports of injuries. A ministry statement said shots were fired at a Turkish C-130 plane landing at Wadi Sidna airport outside Sudan’s capital Khartoum, Xinhua news agency reported. The plane landed safely, the statement said, adding that no injuries were reported to the crew.
The aircraft has been parked for inspection. Turkey has been carrying out evacuation operations for its citizens in Sudan since last Sunday, where fierce fighting broke out between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Force (RSF). The Sudanese military accused the RSF of firing on the Turkish evacuation aircraft, while the RSF denied firing on the aircraft.
