    Two arrested with 9.2 kg poppy husk

    The police nabbed two persons with 9.208 kg of poppy husk on Zirakpur-Panchkula border yesterday. The suspects have been identified as Rohit and Jasbir Singh, both residents of Devi Nagar village, Sector 3, here.

    The police had received a tip-off that Rohit and Jasbir were ferrying poppy husk on a truck. A police team set up a naka on Zirakpur-Panchkula border and recovered the contraband under the supervision of the NDPS Nodal Officer, Sub-Inspector Surinder Kumar. Both were produced before the court today that sent Jasbir to judicial custody and Rohit to police custody for one day.

    The crime branch of the local police has recovered 17 boxes of liquor allegedly smuggled in an Audi car. Two persons have been arrested in this connection.

    The police said the accused identified as Tarun and Sagar, both from Palwal district, were found to be carrying the liquor in an unauthorised way after their vehicle was intercepted by the police.

    The accused were on their way to Kosi in UP to supply the liquor from Faridabad, it is claimed. He said the liquor categorised as IMFL (Indian made foreign liquor) was kept in 17 boxes in the carriage section of the vehicle.

    He said both accused had been taken into police custody for interrogation, end point of supply and the number of persons involved in the racket. This is the first time when liquor was found to have been smuggled in a high-end vehicle, said a police official. A case under the Excise Act was registered in this regard.

    Chandigarh (IANS) | The Punjab Police on Thursday solved the case of human sacrifice of a middle-aged woman with the arrest of two persons who tried to kill the woman under witchcraft to get rich. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that the arrested persons have been identified as Kuldeep Singh and Jasveer Singh, both residents of Fatehgarh Sahib.

    Balveer Kaur (50) was found injured in the fields near a canal in Ferozepur village on Wednesday morning. He is undergoing treatment at PGIMER, Chandigarh. Bhullar said that the accused were circus performers and used to perform cycle shows in villages. He met the victim through her son Dharampreet, who had befriended him eight months earlier.

    Fatehgarh Sahib’s SSP Ravjot Kaur Grewal said that both the accused, who aspired to become rich, came in contact with a ‘tantrik’ who asked them to give ‘human sacrifice’ of a woman. Grewal said the accused called Balveer Kaur on Tuesday on the pretext of taking her to a ‘Tantrik’ for worship, but instead took her to a deserted place in Ferozepur village, where they attacked her accidentally, causing He sustained severe injuries on his neck and other parts of his body.

    Grewal said, after receiving a tip-off from the villagers, the police started an investigation, following which both the accused were arrested.

    ATM thief gang busted in Palampur, two arrested

    The special cell of the local police busted an interstate gang involved in the replacement of ATM cards and cheating people in Palampur and its nearby areas. The police have arrested two members of the gang from Uttar Pradesh.

    In view of the increasing ATM thefts, a team of the Kangra police’s special cell was given the task of gathering inputs and identifying the gang involved in the crime. The team zeroed in on the suspects, but did not have any success.

    Later, the police received a complaint pertaining to the change of ATM cards at Gopalpur and Dadh, wherein the culprits managed to withdraw Rs 66,000 from the account of aged persons who had come to the ATM to withdraw money.

    A case under Sections 420 and 379 of the IPC was registered at the Palampur police station on March 12.

    A special police team was sent to Saharanpur. It raided a house and succeeded in arresting two persons — Jagmohan Singh of Mujjafarpur and Deepak Sharma of Saharanpur.

    Neighbor shot Delhi woman, two arrested

    New Delhi (IANS) | A woman was shot dead by her neighbor in Delhi’s Siraspur area. A senior police officer gave this information on Monday. He said that two people have been arrested in connection with this case. The victim, identified as 30-year-old Ranju, is undergoing treatment at the hospital, the official said.

    Samaypur Badli police station received a PCR call at around 12.15 pm on Monday. In which it was told that a woman has been shot, after receiving the information, a police team reached the spot.

    By the time police reached the spot, the woman had been admitted to Max Hospital in Shalimar Bagh. The crime scene was inspected by the police team, the officer said.

    On arrival at the hospital, the medico-legal case of the victim was collected, in which the doctor noted that she had a bullet wound on her neck and was incapacitated for statement.

    The sister-in-law of the injured has alleged in her statement that Harish, who lives across the street in the same colony, fired at Ranju.

    On Sunday, there was a program of Harish’s son’s well worship, in which DJ was playing. Because of the loud noise, Ranju came to the balcony and asked Harish to stop the music. Shortly thereafter, Harish took the gun from the other accused Amit and fired at Ranju. The officer said that a case was registered against both the men under 307/34 IPC and 27 Arms Act.

    NIA arrests two in West Bengal detonator seizure case

    New Delhi (IANS) | The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has made two new arrests in the West Bengal detonator seizure case. An official has given this information on Saturday.

    The accused arrested on Friday have been identified as Merajuddin Ali Khan, a resident of Bokaro, and Mir Mohammad Nuruzzaman, a resident of Birbhum.

    In June 2022, a Tata Sumo car carrying around 81,000 electric detonators was intercepted by STF Kolkata. The stock of detonators was seized and the driver Ashish Keora was arrested.

    Keora led the police to a cache of illegally stored explosives including 27,000 kg of ammonium nitrate, 1625 kg of gelatin sticks and 2325 more electric detonators.

    Initially, the case was registered at PS MD Bazar and later it was taken over by the NIA in September 2022. After probing the case, the NIA made its first arrest in January 2023. They arrested one Rintu SK.

    Now two more accused have been arrested from Raniganj and Kolkata.

    “While Mir Mohammad Nuruzzaman supplied 27,000 kg of ammonium nitrate to Rintu SK, Merajuddin Ali Khan supplied electric detonators and gelatin sticks to Rintu SK,” the official said.

    Further investigation is on in the matter.
