    2 men asphyxiated near Chennai while cleaning sewer tank

    CHENNAI: Two sanitation workers with Minjur town panchayat engaged by a private school in Minjur, near Chennai to clean the sewer tank in their premises died of suspected asphyxiation on Monday.

    Avadi City Police have booked the school correspondent and are investigating.

    The deceased are identified as Govindan (45) and Subburayalu (50). While Govindan was a permanent staff with the town panchayat, Subburayalu was employed on a contract basis.

    Preliminary investigations revealed that they were engaged by the school correspondent, Simon C Victor (62).

    Police sources said that Simon has been booked under section 304 (a) of IPC (causing death by negligence) and Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act, 2013 and The Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.

    The workers had reached the school around 1 pm and began work. Within minutes of them entering the tank, they were hit by the noxious gases and swooned.

    Police said that the men were declared dead on arrival at the hospital. On information, Minjur Police secured the bodies and moved them to a government hospital for post mortem.

    At least two persons were killed and 10 others injured on Tuesday when a bus collided with a trailer on the National Highway 33 in Jharkhand’s Ramgarh district, police said.

    The accident took place early in the morning in Chutupalu area, around 50 km from the state capital Ranchi, when the collision occurred between the trailer and the passenger vehicle, Ramgarh Police Station officer-in-charge Rohit Kumar Mahto said.

    “Two persons died on the spot and 10 others were injured in the accident on the Ranchi-Patna highway. All the injured people were taken to the Ramgarh Sadar Hospital,” the officer said.

    The accident occurred when a speeding trailer first rammed into a divider and then collided with the bus on the other side of the four-lane highway, Mahto said.

    The bus was on its way to Ranchi from Bakhtiyarpur in Bihar when the accident took place.

    Traffic movement was disrupted for a brief period as locals blocked the road, demanding safety measures and police posting on the highway to avoid such an accident, the officer said. Ramgarh Circle Officer Sudhir Kumar said the traffic was normal on the highway after locals withdrew their protest.

    The administration assured locals of adequate measures to ensure the safety of commuters on the highway, he added.

    Jagtial: In an unfortunate incident, two died in a road accident. The mishap took place on the outskirts of Dammaiahpet of Kodimyal mandal on Sunday night.

    The incident happened after a bike on which the duo was riding rammed into a roadside tree. The deceased Pittala were identified as Rajender (18) of Thirmalapur and Penkasula Akshay (19) of Sandralapalli Kodimyal mandal.Telangana, Telangana News

    The police informed that Rajender and Akshay were returning from a Bonalu festival at their friend’s home in Dammaiahpet.

    Akshay died on the spot and Rajender succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital. It is learnt that Akshay recently appeared for his degree second year examination and Rajender had written the first year exams.

    The bodies were shifted to Jagtial hospital for post-mortem.

    On April 22, two persons died in a road accident at Neredmet on Thursday night.

    It is learnt that the victims were on a motorcycle on the Sainathpuram road in Neredmet and they tried to overtake a car which resulted in hitting a TSRTC bus coming in the opposite direction. The duo fell on the road and sustained serious head injuries and died on the spot.

    The Neredmet police reached the spot and shifted the bodies to the Gandhi Hospital mortuary.

    In another incident, a teenage girl was killed and her father and younger sister were seriously injured after their two-wheeler was rammed by a truck. This road accident took place at Langar Houz on Thursday night.

    The deceased was identified as Syed Nasreen Begum (18) was an intermediate student while her father was identified as Syed Ghouse (48), a construction worker and Syed Nameera Begum (10), a class six student, residents of Brundavan Colony in Tolichowki.

    According to police, the tragic happened when the trio was proceeding to their house from Langar Houz.

    The truck driver Venkataiah, who allegedly was driving at high speed lost control of the steering and crashed into the two-wheeler from behind.

    The trio fell on the road and while Nasreen died on the spot, her father and sister escaped with injuries.

    A case has been registered and the truck driver has been taken into custody.

    The police reached the spot and rushed the injured to a nearby hospital and the deceased to a government hospital.

    Two people died in a road accident in Hazaribagh district

    Hazaribag (Jharkhand), Apr 9 (PTI) At least two persons were killed and 13 others injured in two road accidents in Jharkhand’s Hazaribag district, police said.

    In the first accident, a newly married couple and their family members were proceeding to Barkagaon in a bus from Katkamdag when the driver lost control over the vehicle due to some malfunction and it fell into a roadside ditch, killing a 52-year-old man on the spot and injuring 11 others, a police officer said.

    The injured were admitted to Hazaribag Medical College and Hospital (HMCH), from where the couple, who were critically injured, were shifted to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi.

    In another accident, a 42-year-old man was killed in a head-on collision between two trucks in Barkatha. He was moving towards Kolkata and was coming from Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh.

    Two others were seriously injured in the incident and were admitted to HMCH.

    Two killed in road accidents in Kullu

    Two persons were killed in separate road accidents in the district today.

    The victim, Narender Kumar of Sarabai, was walking back home when the accident took place near the Kali Mata temple at Sarabai.

    When he did not return home, members of his family tried calling him up, but to no avail. They then went out looking for him and found him lying injured on a roadside. He was rushed to the hospital but the doctors declared him brought dead.

    The police are speculating in the preliminary investigation that the victim was hit by a vehicle from behind on the Bhuntar-Sarabai road. The police said a case had been registered and further investigation was underway.

    In another incident, a person was killed when a car hit his bike while overtaking at Bashing on the Manali-Kullu National Highway, 6 km from here today.

    The footage of a CCTV camera installed on the spot, which has since gone viral on social media, shows a bike en route from Manali to Kullu. A speeding car attempts to overtake a bus and collides head-on with the bike.

    The bystanders rushed the victim, Sukhram of Kothi Sari village in Babeli panchayat, to the hospital but he succumbed to his injuries during the treatment.

    The Kullu police were informed about the incident by the hospital authorities and a case of negligent driving has been registered against the driver of the car. The police said further proceedings are underway.

    Visakhapatnam: Two persons died on the spot in a road accident that occurred at Valandapeta near Bheemunipatnam.

    The incident happened in the wee hours of Thursday when the driver felt sleepy and had hit the divider and collided with a lorry.

    Two persons travelling in the car died on the spot. They were identified as L Durga Prasad and P Santosh and residents of Srikakulam.

    The bodies were shifted to King George Hospital for postmortem.
