Central minister told Karnataka government, if you can’t give free rice, then leave power

Chikmagalur (IANS) | Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shobha Karandlaje has told the Congress government in Karnataka that it should either provide 10 kg of rice free of cost as promised during the elections or step down. Talking to reporters in Chikkamagaluru, Shobha Karandlaje on Wednesday said that they (Congress government) have to give a total of 15 kg free rice to the people. The central government already gives five kilograms of free rice.

He said, Congress leaders made false promises only to win the elections. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah should withdraw his statements in this regard.

She questioned, women are asked for certificates for bus passes. Do I need a certificate to prove that I am a woman?

Fingers are pointed at the Prime Minister for free rice, funds, electricity and everything, he said. In such a situation, why have you (Congress) distributed guarantee cards to the people? Buy rice from farmers and distribute it among the people.

The Karnataka government has attacked the central government for denying the sale of rice to the Food Corporation of India (FCI). Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had alleged that the BJP was stealing the poor man’s food and trying to sabotage the Anna Bhagya scheme under which 10 kg of free rice would be distributed to each family member of BPL card holders.

A war of words has broken out between the BJP and the Congress on this issue. The Congress had staged a sit-in against the central government. The BJP also opposed it and some of its leaders were arrested and later released.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan calls Odisha lawless

BHUBANESWAR: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan once again targeted the state government over the law and order situation following the abduction and murder of a teenager in Jharsuguda district for ransom. Pradhan, who is on a three-day visit to the state, expressed concern over the murder of 15-year-old Samarth Agarwal, son of a businessman, within two months of the daylight killing of minister Naba Kishore Das.

Taking to Twitter, Pradhan said, “Lawless Odisha is a reality. High-time people in power recognise the fault-lines in the law and order situation in the state.” “Murder of young Samarth exactly within two months of the broad daylight killing of Minister Naba Das exposes Odisha govt’s tall claims on rule of law,” he also said.

The minister said that no one is safe, neither the public nor the public representatives of the state. Such gruesome incidents, particularly in Jharsuguda, has shocked everyone and weakens their trust on the state government and its law and order machinery.

“No amount of empathy will bring solace to young Samarth’s family. The Odisha government must pull up its socks to ensure rule of law and safety of citizens,” Pradhan tweeted. Earlier, Pradhan had launched an attack on the state government for its failure to protect one of its minister who was shot dead by a police officer on duty on January 29 in Brajarajnagar. He had also been rasing the Mahanga double murder case, Anand Toppo murder case and the alleged sexual harassment case against a BJD MLA.

A war of words broke out with BJD Rajya Sabha MP Sasmit Patra accusing Pradhan of tarnishing the image of the state for petty political gain and explaining the minister the difference between lawlessness and law and order situation. In a series of tweets, the BJD MP said lawlessness is when during a GST raid at Padampur hundreds of BJP leaders and workers storm in forcibly and snath papers from the raiding party in a bid to help the businessman who had cheated in paying tax.

It is law and order situation when 500 people block national highway between Sambalpur and Cuttack due to central neglect and delay in completion of work for many years or thousands of farmers protest against central neglect for not lifting surplus paddy.

The BJD leader said crime is committed by a group or individual which is investigated and the guilty are brought to justice. He alleged that BJP-ruled states like UP, MP, Maharashtra, Assam and Haryana have reported more rape cases and some of them have reported more murder cases as per the NCRB report of 2021 and requested Pradhan not to mislead the people of the state and do politics on sensitive matters of crime.

Union Minister announces major initiative in fisheries sector

Bangaluru/Udupi: Union minister for Fisheries Animal Husbandry and Dairy Parshottam Rupala has announced that the government prioritises the fisheries industry to ensure that it adopts a comprehensive development strategy.

Two big announcements were made in the meetings in Udupi and Mangaluru including a new fisheries university for Mangaluru and a series of sops to the fishermen on the Karnataka coast including the extension of KisanVikas cards for Fisherfolk in the state. He was participating in the initiation ceremony of ‘SagarParikrama’ in Karnataka which is an ambitious programme of the Union government to improve fisheries in the country. Speaking to the press correspondents in MangaluruRupala said “We have made a proposal to the union government to isolate the fisheries section of the Karnataka Veterinary, Animal Sciences and Fisheries University at Bidar and use the resources to upgrade the Fisheries college at Mangaluru into a University.

Rupala stated that the Pradhan MantriMatsyaSampadaYojana (PMMSY), has envisioned funding of Rs 20,050 crore for the fisheries sector for five years (2020-25), and the production scale in the fisheries sector will increase and various allied activities will add income generation opportunity in the sector as a result of this large scale of investment. SagarParikrama- 2023 (Phase-IV) program was inaugurated on Sunday in Malpe.

The SagarParikrama program, which seeks to raise fishermen’s awareness of various government programs along the country’s 8,000 km of coastlines, aims to address the issues facing fishermen nationwide, according to the minister. Fishermen in this area have discussed issues and also suggested building Malpe’s largest all-weather harbour.

Since Prime Minister Narendra Modi believes that the fisheries sector contributes a significant portion to the country’s economy, he said that their demands, which include a new harbour, distribution of kerosene and diesel, and other programs, will be met. For the benefit of the nation’s fishermen, Prime Minister Modi has established a separate ministry for fisheries. The Pradhan MantriMatsyaSampadaYojana was announced by the PM to improve the lives of fishermen and the fishing industry.

To purchase deep-sea fishing boats, financial assistance in the amount of Rs 1 crore is being provided. He added that the demands would be discussed with officials. “The majority of fishermen want small trawlers, and they want the government to introduce schemes for the same. The minister also expressed shock at learning about the complaints of fishermen who received loans from private companies at a rate of 15 per cent interest per month.

If that is the interest rate, fishermen would not be able to escape their financial problems. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided to provide loans to fishermen in a similar manner to how loans are provided to farmers in order to stop this. Fishermen can borrow up to Rs 1.8 lakh from banks without providing security, he said.
