    Youth arrested for raping minor, trying to strangle her

    Uttara Kannada (IANS) | The Karnataka Police has arrested a youth for raping and attempting to strangulate a four-year-old minor girl in Uttara Kannada district. Police said the arrested person has been identified as 26-year-old Shiva, a native of Cuddapah city in Andhra Pradesh. Shiva works as a daily wage labourer.

    According to the police, the accused dragged the girl to an isolated place and raped her in Sirsi town on Thursday evening.

    He then tried to strangulate the girl with a wire, but some passers-by heard her screams and reached the spot and saved her. Police said the accused tried to flee, but was caught and handed over to the police.

    The police have registered a case against the accused under sections 376, 307 of the IPC, sections 4 and 6 of the POCSO Act.

    Wild bear attacked man, walked 2 km after gouging out his eyes

    Uttara Kannada (IANS) | A 70-year-old man was attacked by a wild bear in Karnataka’s Uttara Kannada district on Thursday. The person courageously confronted the bear and his life was saved. However, the condition of the person is said to be critical and he is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Belagavi. The name of the injured person is Vittu Shalake and he is a resident of Maharashtra.

    The incident took place when Shalake was going from Ramnagar to Tamboli village on foot in the forest. Meanwhile, the bear attacked Schalke. In this attack, the bear gouged out one eye of the man and injured the other. However, the old man showed courage and managed to escape from the clutches of the bear while shouting.

    When the bear left the man and fled into the forest, he walked for about two kilometers despite being covered in blood. After first aid at Ramnagar Hospital, Shalake was shifted to a hospital in Belagavi.

    Ramnagar police has registered the case. Meanwhile, the attack has created fear and anxiety among the people of the area. Forest officials have also assessed the situation in the area to initiate preventive measures to avoid bear attacks on people.
