    Vijayawada: Ambedkar statue unveiled

    Vijayawada: National SC Commission member Anju Bala, along with Home Minister Taneti Vanita, unveiled statue of Dr BR Ambedkar at Andhra Pradesh Chief Postmaster General Office here on Thursday. The programme was organised by SC, ST Employees Association at Krishnalanka here.

    Speaking on the occasion, Anju Bala said that she got inspiration from the life of Ambedkar. The achievements of Dr Ambedkar are an inspiration to the crores of people in India and abroad. Not only India, but Dr BR Ambedkar statues are being installed in many countries across the world, she added.

    Anju Bala said that she was elected as MLA and MP and is working for the cause of Dalits and their upliftment. She called upon the people to follow the ideals of Ambedkar and asked the Dalits to get inspiration from his services and dedication. She complimented the SC/ ST employees for installing the statue of Ambedkar and conducting the programme.

    Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh MD K Harshavardhan, YSRCP East constituency in-charge Devineni Avinash and post department employees, and other leaders attended the programme.

    Space Balloon To Be Launched Tomorrow Olympic Run In Vijayawada

    Vijayawada: A high-altitude balloon will be launched to create awareness of Space and Space exploration by Usha Rama Engineering College in collaboration with Space Kidz India in Vijayawada on Sunday.

    Disclosing the details to the media here on Friday, College Principal Dr GVKSV Prasad said that the field of space exploration and related sciences is rapidly growing and holds immense potential for the future. It was crucial that they inspire the younger generation to pursue careers in these fields and equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel, he added. He further informed that as part of their vision to make Space accessible and economical, they provide hands-on experience for students through the high-altitude balloon satellites and nano-satellites and promote space education among the youth of the nation.

    A team of 25 students was trained for one week in Space Sciences & Technology, Nano Satellites and Embedded Systems with hands-on experience in building payload and its subsystems. A ground station for telemetry & tracking of the payload capsule is set up by the students in the college. The payload is a mass of 2 kg, designed to carry out upper atmospheric Research & Radio communication experiments.

    The launch is scheduled for 10 am. Once the balloon is launched, the total expected flight time is about three hours. The whole flight will be tracked and will be retrieved by the student team, he stated.

    Principal Prasad said that Space Kidz India is an Indian Aerospace Startup pioneering in the design, fabrication, and launch of small satellites, spacecraft, and ground systems. With 7 years of experience, they have launched 18 balloon satellites, two suborbital payloads, and four orbital satellites, he informed.

    VIJAYAWADA: As part of the Olympic week celebrations, Krishna (joint) District Olympic Association is going to organize ‘Olymipic Run’ in Vijayawada on 25th June, Sunday. While addressing the media on Friday here, Krishna District Olympic Association President N Brahmaji, Secretary P Padmaja said that arrangement have been made for conducting the Olympic Run at a grand manner.

    They said, the Run will commence from Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium at 6am and continued via DV Manner, Siddartha Junction, Madhu Gardens by coverning 4kms. International Volleyball player, Arjuna and Dronacharya awardee A Raman Rao, International archer and Arjuna awardee Vennam Jyoti Surekha will flag off and start the run. They informed that all age grops are invited to participate in it and added that already 400 names have been registered to participate in this run.

    They informed that all the participants will be given jerseys and certificates. They urged the public and sports to participated in the run to make success it. They said that every participant will be bestowed with Interanal Olympic Run Certificate.

    Many trains canceled from Vijayawada amid track restoration work

    The Railway Department authorities have cancelled the trains running on the Kharagpur-Bhadrak section of the South Eastern Railway due to the ongoing track restoration work.

    According to officials, Shalimar – Hyderabad (18045/18046), Satragachi – Tirupati (22855), Guwahati – Secunderabad (02605), Howrah – Puducherry (12867), Chennai Central – Satragachi (22808), Mysore – Howrah (22818) trains were cancelled on Sunday while in 19th of this month, Tirupati–Satragachi (22856), Secunderabad–Agartala (07030), Yarnakulam–Howrah (22878) trains were cancelled.

    Meanwhile, Visakhapatnam – Secunderabad (20833) Vande Bharat Express scheduled to leave Visakhapatnam at 5.45 am on Saturday left at 2.10 pm. This train was supposed to reach Visakhapatnam from Secunderabad at 11 pm on Friday but reached Visakhapatnam about 10 hours late at 9 am on Saturday. Hence it left Visakhapatnam about 8 hours late.

    Vijayawada (NTR district) : The Vijayawada police is going to impose Section 144 (2) CRPC in the limits of Vijayawada city for 50 days to prevent any untoward incidents and to avoid disturbance of peace and security. Section 144 will be implemented under the limits of Ibrahimpatnam, Bhavanipuram, one town, two town, SN Puram, AS Nagar, Nunna, Governerpet, Suryaraopet, Gunadala and Patamata police stations.

    In a press release on Friday, district Police Commissioner Kanthi Rana Tata informed that they will be invoking this section as part of the precautionary measures for maintaining peace and security. He said the section will be enforced from May 21 to July 9. People are advised not to gather more than four persons at a place and no one should roam by holding lethal weapons and stones in hand during this period, informed the Commissioner. If any person defies these rules, he would get punished as per law, he warned.

    Vijayawada : The state technical education department will declare AP Polycet results on May 20. The Results will be made available on http://polycetap.nic.in. In a press release on Thursday, Technical Education Commissioner Chadalawada Naga Rani informed that the Polycet exam was conducted on May 10 for admissions into government and private polytechnics across the state. She said that 1,43,625 students appeared for the exam. The results will be released by financial minister Buggana Rajendranath Reddy, she said, adding that the web counselling details will also be made available the same day.

    Former Cuddapah SP shares details of Viveka murder case with CBI officials

    VIJAYAWADA: Senior IPS officer and APSP fifth battalion commandant Rahul Dev Sharma on Monday reportedly met sleuths of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probing the murder of YSRC leader and former minister YS Vivekananda Reddy.

    The former Kadapa district SP, who headed the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the previous government to probe Viveka’s murder, met the CBI team in Hyderabad and reportedly submitted crucial information pertaining to the murder which took place in March 2019, just a month before the general elections.

    Sharma was in the CBI office for about an hour and shared details of the investigation with the officials. It is also learnt that he was questioned about the developments that took place in the past and evidence collected from the scene of offence. When contacted, the IPS officer was unavailable for a comment.

    New Delhi :The Customs Commissionerate (Preventive), Vijayawada on Wednesday busted a case of smuggled gold coming into Andhra Pradesh in an operation involving interception at multiple locations in the state,” the official said.

    The Customs officials intercepted carriers of smuggled gold who were travelling in different modes of public transport like buses, cars and trains at various places like Nellore, Vijayawada, Sullurupeta.

    The official said: “In the entire process we have seized 12.97 kg gold valued at Rs 7.48 crore.The gold seized predominantly included gold whose foreign markings were deliberately defaced to try and camouflage the smuggled nature of the gold.”

    The official said the gold was seized under Section 110 of the Customs Act and the accused were placed under arrest under Section 104 of the Act.

    AP budget lays emphasis on agriculture sector to increase production

    VIJAYAWADA: Agriculture Minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy on Thursday presented the Agriculture Budget for 2023-24 with an outlay of Rs 41,436.29 crore. This is comparatively less than the previous budget outlay of Rs 43,052.78 crore.“Andhra Pradesh’s growth rate in agriculture and allied sectors is more than the national average in the last two years. The State had recorded a growth rate of 13.7% against the national average of 10% in 2021-22. In the subsequent fiscal (2022-23), the State has achieved a growth rate of 13.18% against the national average of 11.20%,” he explained.

    According to the Agriculture Minister, the government has spent Rs 1.54 lakh crore on agriculture and allied sectors in the last 44 months. Rythu Bharosa Kendras (RBKs), introduced by the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government, a one stop solution for all needs of farmers from seeds to marketing of the produce in their own village, have proved to be game changer in the rural economy. A sum of Rs 41.55 crore was allocated to strengthen 10,778 RBKs in the State. RBKs are short listed in the nominations for the FAO champion award for 2022-23. Construction of 1,513 RBK buildings have been completed and works pertaining 8,730 are nearing completion.

    “Despite natural calamities like heavy rains, the State achieved a record foodgrain production of 155 lakh metric tonnes in 2021-22 and it is expected to produce 169 lakh metric tonnes in 2022-23,” Kakani said.
    Stating that Rs 6,944.50 crore was extended to 51.12 lakh farmers in 2022-23, the minister proposed to provide Rs 7,220 crore for the financial year 2023-24. The State government takes the full financial burden of crop insurance without the farmers having to pay any premium. “For the financial year 2023-23, a budget allocation of Rs 1,600 crore was made for YSR Free Crop Insurance Scheme,” he explained.

    Further, Rs 500 crore is proposed to implement the YSR Sunna Vaddi Panta Runalu Scheme (interest free crop loans) for the FY 2023-24. An amount of Rs 200 crore has been allocated for distribution of seeds under subsidy. Supply of Kisan drones to CHCs will commence this year. “Drones can help farmers save 25% of expenditure on input cost. We are planning to introduce 10,000 Kisan drones in a phased manner. In the first phase, 2,000 drones will be introduced and Rs 80 crore has been proposed for the same,” he said.

    As 2023 has been declared the International Year of Millets, the government has decided to promote millet cultivation in five lakh acres in the coming five years under the Millets Promotion Policy. Though the Centre has not declared MSP for millets, the State government has taken the initiative to provide MSP of Rs 2,500 per quintal for Korra, Variga, Ooda and other minor millets.“The government is prepared to supply primary processing units at a subsidy of Rs 1.25 lakh per machine under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana,” he said.

    Rs 1.54L cr spent on agri & allied sectors

    The State government has spent Rs 1.54 lakh crore on agriculture and allied sectors in the last 44 months, Agriculture Minister K Govardhan Reddy said. It included Rs 27,062.09 crore on Rythu Bharosa, Rs 1,442.66 crore on zero interest crop loans, Rs 6,684.84 crore on free crop insurance and Rs 1,911.81 crore on input subsidy.
