    The villagers protested by blocking the road, demanding a solution to the water problem

    Adoni (Kurnool): The residents of Madhavaram village under the aegis of Centre for Indian Trade Union (CITU) staged a protest on Madhavaram and Adoni road demanding the government officials and political leaders to resolve the drinking water problem in their village on Monday.

    Addressing the gathering, Vyavasaya Karmika Sangam district vice-president K Linganna and CITU mandal president J Ramanjaneyulu stated that though residents of Ballekal village in Adoni mandal took the issue to the notice of officials and political leaders, no initiative to permanently resolve the issue was taken till date.

    They alleged that the officials and political leaders were least bothered to address the problem. They are forced to stage the road blockade on Madhavaram and Adoni road as the political leaders and officials least bothered over the issue, said the leaders. The leaders urged them to take permanent steps resolving the drinking water problem. With the road blockade, the transportation on both ends of the road has totally come to a halt for an hour. Later they vacated the road with a warning to the government officials and political leaders that they would intensify the protest if the problem was not resolved.

    Leaders of CITU Urukundu, Veeresh, Nagarjuna, Ramesh, women wing leaders, villagers and others participated in the protest.

    Guntur: TDP corporators Vemulapalli Sriram Prasad and Babu, and YSRCP corporators Ajay and Sankuri Srinu jostled one another at the GMC council meeting held here on Friday.

    When the TDP leaders raised drinking water problem in Guntur city and the failure of the GMC to supply drinking water, YSRCP corporator Sankuri Srinu said that the GMC has replaced old drinking water pipeline at Nehru Nagar and clarified that at present there is no drinking water scarcity.

    Heated exchange of words took place between the TDP and YSRCP corporators and pushed one another in the council meeting. MLA Mustafa and Deputy Mayor Vanama Bala Vajra Babu pacified corporators of both the parties.

    Responding to the drinking water problem, GMC Commissioner Kirthi Chekuri explained that at present the GMC is getting drinking water from Undavalli and due to power interruptions, GMC is not drawing drinking water continuously. She said some villages were merged in the GMC and the GMC is supplying the drinking water to the newly merged villages. If the drinking water wastage is checked, the GMC will be able to improve drinking water supply, she said.

    Nehru Nagar drinking water pipeline was changed to check drinking water pipeline leaks. She assured that the GMC will take all the steps to solve the drinking water problem.
